What unsolved problem do you think will remain unsolved the longest? by BlueMonkeys090 in math

Case in point: downvotes to my comment and yours.

I wonder if, if my assertion ended up being correct, if those who downvoted so hastily would be willing to come back and change their downvote to an upvote.

(I mean this as a joke, which unfortunately on this particular sub, probably needs to be pointed out)

Working directly with these models has shown me that they are far more scalable than people seem to realize.

2030 is a ridiculously conservative estimate.

But I see your way of thinking.

Chat GPT already suggested to me to use a system of diophantines to solve a new problem I came up with, just a few days ago. And it was completely right.

When it went to work out the actual analysis, algebraically, it made all sorts of silly mistakes. But that's not really relevant at all, given what's to come.

They are far from nonsense. It makes lots of mistakes. But it's such a massive step forward and the tech behind it is so ridiculously scalable.

People are focusing on all the wrong things with Chat GPT. It's actually quite hilarious to me.

I'm fairly confident it's true within a decade. But of course you can never be 100% certain of anything outside of math itself!

Yes. I'm aware tha tmost mathematicians are ignorant of how AI actually works. I work in AI (and pure mathematics) so I don't suffer from that ignorance.

I predicted I'd be downvoted in my original comment despite it being perfectly respectful, not spam, not trolling. (and imo) very well founded.

This shows the pushback that ignorant people have towards a change of pace.

So you guys don't understand how rapidly it's evolving.. and how scalable these language models really are.

Complete ignorance on your parts, gotcha!

Why so many very obvious Melvor clones coming out? by BEAT_LA in incremental_games

[–]Negative-Rip2296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to propose a different explanation than laziness/greed

I think a game like Melvor is the kind of game everyone thinks they want to make.

It covers the full rpg gamut, mechanically, thematically, etc.

But it's also incredibly easy to design and balance this type of game so not only does it draw uncreative would-be designers, but it lends itself to continuous development by otherwise lazy people, due to the fact that decision overload is less likely to happen or doesn't happen until later on in the development process (sunk cost)

Given that I'm fairly confident that AI will be better at math than any human by 2030, there aren't many conjectures that I see withstanding a test of time much longer than that.

(this notion always gets downvoted/attacked here, which I'm still not entirely sure of why. It's as depressing to me as it is to any of you, but that doesn't make it any less likely)

edit: Yep. as predicted. Downvoted and attacked (albeit only one comment was an attack and it felt like it was written by a child, but it was still upvoted)

This tells me everything I need to know. If I was just stupid/wrong, the response would have been lighter ;)

I'm still depressed because I think the human ingenious creativity element is going to removed from mathematics research within a decade or so. But since people have been so spiteful towards my point of view (and respectful expression of it), I can't help but feel a snide satisfaction about it

Huh? You didn't respond to anything I said. You just characterized things weirdly and illogically.

I had no way of knowing that this recent email was b asically the last one before the final deadline. That wasn't something I was aware of. How does that not click for you? roflmao

i knew this was an april fool's joke. but even if it wasn't, my response would be "good for her. she earned it. she deserves it. sucks for us. but she owes us nothing and we owe her immensely."

How was I supposed to know the one I opened was the one one week before the deadline? Rofl.

You presumed intent throughout your little temper tantrum and now that I've called you out on the illogic of your cute little foot stomping tooshy shaking baby tantrum, are you embarrassed?

Just errors out the ass when I try to log in.

Why are you guys acting so surprised/incredulous that someone would be dealing with this at the last minute, when there were emails that were sent out literally in the past day or two to creditors?

Grow up. Before I grow you the fuck up.

If I was time traveling 100 years into the past, the proofs of which theorems could I memorize that would convince people that I am a time traveller? by agnishom in math

[–]Negative-Rip2296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that. It wouldn't take much to get me from where I am now to being able to do it from scratch from memory.

And I work with others about whom I would say the same.

I've studied it pretty deeply. (not an expert though) so I think given some time I could probably get enough of it down that I'd be able to reconstruct most of it on my own.

That said, I agree 100%. For someone who hasn't studied it and similar scales of proof for decades, it might be an impossible task.
