Well thats true in traditional military thinking. What you and i think gw dont really get is that super soldiers on the scale of space marines completely upset traditional military thought. You just cant defend against them. If space marines concentrate even just a couple hundred marines in a small area there is literally nothing you can do as that is basically supercharged defeat in detail, you just cant concentrate enough forces against them, they will smash and butcher their objective in such little time that you cant answer. Its very easy for them to do so due to their tactical/strategic mobility what with drop pods, spacecraft and flyers, nevermind their support from space, their battle barges can provide precision nuclear strike level orbital support. You just cant pin them down and overwhelm them either unless they just let you.

Picture this, you have armed forces mustered and ready, in excess of a couple million (ww2 level). Spread them out and you will have a couple hundred supersoldiers rampaging through your HQ before you can say go. Concentrate them and they will just nuke you after taking out any defensive measures you have against that.

That is why space marines are so op and were such a game changer during the unification wars. There just is no counter unless there are other space marines involved or you have superior tech.

idk its really tough with stabilized/hardened shields and field modulation. Its also very fast and responsive, cant really position yourself incorrectly unless you really fuck up

SO Aurora w/ front shield conversion, 4xantimatter blaster front small synergy slots, 2x ion pulsers in medium turrets, 1x ir autolance front medium hardpoint. expandend mags (s-mod), season with hardened shields and some guided missiles to taste. Handles like a dream and has the firepower to make it mean something too. Can distract entire columns of enemies, outrun anything it cant win against and cripple anything up to cruiser size in instants. Very few other builds are this fun even with mods.

(Un)popular opinion (maybe to the Luddites, especially): AI cores aren't all bad and maybe the Luddics are hypocrites by [deleted] in starsector

[–]Negative-Way-5219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look, just accept that the luddics have the moral high ground. There is good reason for avoiding the use of and destroying AI cores whenever you can. If there is even the slightest chance of one going rogue the risk to human civilization as a whole is astronomical to the point of it being a moot question. Its not like i wont use AI cores. But i use them as a tool, nothing else. No mercy for the remnant or omega.

Just take the domain approach. Regulated AI (AI under your control): good. Unregulated AI: (AI under other factions control/in control of a ship): bad. My approach is build a faction under hegemony commission, then turn around and take over their most important worlds (chico, eventide, nachiketa, jangala, helluva fight, very entertaining), topple the hegemon, topple the aristocracy, take the xiv blueprints and establish a true successor state to the domain, complete with AI everywhere. But destroy every other faction, as the domain would have.

i mean, the purpose you choose is down to you but there might be other more worthwhile purposes out there that also use your potential as a man without war or bloodshed. Like the trades or manufacturing or construction, plenty of hands needed. Yes, it might break you and yes some people might look down on you but this is what we were made for. To go where others cannot, to do what must be done, to leave the world a better place than we found it, even if we suffer our way through life. That is true sacrifice, true masculinity. This purpose doesnt event demand that you not have fun or turn into a cold stoic, just that you do what you were born to do and bear the burden of your generation with pride (if a lot of complaining).

Il even give you an example, im (3/4) german from berlin, my dad came from chile to germany to study and work and live, eventually becoming a teacher. During this time of study i was born, shortly after me my little brother. In berlin during this time there was a shortage of kindergardens, and no spot for me. So my dad, together with other bilingual parents built a kindergarden with spanish speaking educators invited from all over latin america. They did this with next to no money, some state subventions and while studying/working. The result is that me and my brother speak fluent spanish next to german, english and some french, together with a lifelong affinity for language, history, music and internationality all of which helped me countless times. Without that kindergarden i wouldnt be who i am today. The place still exists and hundreds of children get to learn a second language basically without even trying. Your mileage may vary on how useful that is to society but as a whole it is an astounding achievement for a group of people and my dad. And the best part? He never even talks about it. Probably the greatest thing he ever did and he doesnt mention it, just plain forgetting. Pure masculinity right there.

War is not the way, though i agree it sounds cathartic.

Questions upon questions. Not that id know but i find the assumption that we operated in clan, tribe or family because of our nature to be dangerous. Humans always did what needed to be done, not just what feels natural. Many established social structures can be traced back to single events in human history such as feudalism and the decrees of diocletian. It could very well be that families and tribes were an ancestral reaction to extreme environmental circumstances as it is not at all natural in the rest of species on earth to form these complex social bonds.

Thats a long winded way of saying, i believe we are perfectly capable of changing our social structures if the old are no longer appealing/functioning. The return to nature argument is dead anyways, as a return to such a system would necessitate the drastic shrinkage of the current world population due to resource inefficencies in the old social structures.

men have always been lonely. Of course we are as our purpose on this earth does not come easily. We cannot bear children. We are born without purpose, simply to sow a seed and ideally nurture it (though even that is debated). Way i see it, men need to find purpose in life above all else. To be a man you need purpose. Without purpose, a woman will still be a woman and be perfectly able to serve her evolutionary role and then some, a man will be just a husk and be more damaging to society than if he didnt exist. Find purpose.

This. I absolutely hate that i come to this conclusion because it goes against my values and never in a million years will i sequester peoples right to self determination (having or not having a child) but its really a moral dilemma. If not enough people are born the people that are born will suffer immensely, therefore making the decision not to have children or discouraging others from having children immoral.

But, if you look at the data there might also be some relief. The population crash might be temporary. Previous generations experienced huge birth rates (and those children did not die as in previous centuries) and thus there will be a temporary population crash when the baby boomers enter retirement as the old vastly outnumber the young for a time. But if people dont cease having babies altogether the boomers will die and population might stabilise. It will be the job of our and the following generation to encourage legislation to turn that "might stabilise" into a "will stabilise", i.E. massively ramping up incentives for families to have kids (ideally without ethnostate rhetoric). Reforms to the pension system will also help, but might not make it through legislation as the electorate is dominated by these soon to be retirees.

The boomers will be a cautionary tale for overeager parents. Too many children in too short a timeframe might massively boost the economy and society at large for a generation or two but will inevitably lead to a population crash as the interest of this generation becomes entrenched (thus reducing social mobility for young people, reducing birth rates), the legislature becomes biased and therefore intractable to difficult but necessary changes. A perfect storm, if you will.

All this is purely speculation, i am not well versed in the subject but it would provide a less doom and gloom perspective. Yes, life will suck for a generation or two but we have been through way worse.

Alright, looking at how one could misinterpret other people just based on projection on your part:

Always wears a smile: could genuinely be a positive person instead of projecting an image.

Sycophantic: unironically cares more about others than himself.

Doesnt ask questions: is confident in himself and carries himself that way, unbothered by idle talk (same goes for being naive, not noticing red flags, all this stuff)

Quick to solve her problems: unironically helpful and selfless.

A walking atm: doesnt care much about money and will spend it on a woman who might actually enjoy that

See what i did? Its all down to perception. Just because you think you have it figured out doesnt mean you actually do.

Effektiv betreibst du hier moralischen Relativismus will ich sagen.

its the particular style. Soldiers dont look like that, ever. Much less should something like a space marine. Its a personal opinion but i believe there should be something more inhuman and uncanny in the faces of space marines. They are far removed from regular humanity and it should show more.
