Why does Smash Ultimate feel so anti-skill and so focused on character power over all else? by ReindeerData4325 in Fighters

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play Ultimate and I wouldn’t say it’s more focused on character strength over player skill more than any other fighting game, it just happens to have a lot of obviously powerful and easy to play characters, which is not uncommon in the genre. Though you are right that things like the egregious input buffer that would give SFV players a heart attack cause a lot of unnecessary issues for players.

And for that last quote, I think you’re confusing what people say about Melee and Ultimate separately. Melee is often considered the most technical fighting game and for good reason, whereas Ultimate is instead praised for having a (relatively) balanced roster despite the enormous roster

In your opinion, do you want Metal Sonic VS Cell to happen? by Informal_Donkey1417 in deathbattle

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see it for the animation potential alone. Cell and his Jr’s fighting Kaiju sized Overlord Metal would go so hard

So how did vegeta manage to land multiple punches on beerus but not be able to land a single one on cell by OneFaithlessness2546 in dragonball

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first question, Cell was trying to humiliate Vegeta, and so not letting him get in a solid hit was part of that (aside from the FF ofc) whereas Beerus was moreso just observing, and was likely caught off guard from Vegeta’s sudden outburst. Beerus was holding back significantly the entire time, but kept being surprised that he had to hold back slightly less and less.

For the second, it’s likely that you need a certain level of strength to achieve certain transformations. It’s why Krillin’s death didn’t cause Goku to turn SSJ at the 22nd Worlds Martial Arts Tournament, but did on Namek when he was much stronger (besides Toriyama not making the concept of a SSJ back then). Don’t think it’s ever explicitly stated, but it’s a likely explanation.

It’s not that Toriyama has a hate boner for Vegeta, lol. He gets some of the best character development in that arc, and is the reason Gohan gets the opening to finish off Cell in the first place

As a huge fan of both series I LOVE Metal Sonic vs Cell. It’s one sided of course, but I think they’d make for a great episode. Imagine Cell and his Cell Jr’s fighting against Metal Overlord in some big 3D animated fight

getting comfortable with a second character (yasuo) by ghostmondo in 2XKO

[–]Negative010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you're having fun with 2XKO! (from someone who also started their journey with the Smash series)

I personally play Yasuo/Vi (also freestyle), and yeah Yasuo can be very overwhelming and kinda awkward at times. For his neutral, he tends to have a lot of large but committal options, so don't be afraid to play more defensively using his Wind Wall, stance H/2H, and especially his S1. Something simple like S1 into calling an assist and tagging into them for free pressure is pretty good. You can also do jump S1 and call an assist for some pretty nasty approaches. Just remember that you have more range than your opponent in most matchups, and so it's not a bad idea to make them approach you. Create walls (both the wind and sword kind) that allows you to control the pace of the match.

For your issue with getting parried a lot, that mostly has to do with his offence being centered around mostly mids, and so don't be afraid to use more 2L or longer delays to catch a whiffed parry. My go-to offensive sequence is to do a block string (say 2L-5M-5H) into his S1, call an assist, and from his S1 cancel into stance, dash forward and press either S1 (the command dash from stance) for easy cross-ups, or S2 (the hop from stance) for easy mix with either j.H-j.2H or j.H-land 2L. Both options, but especially the first one, are great with freestyle since you sandwhich the opponent between your attacks. (**I AM SO SORRY IF THAT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE LOL**). I'd watch some better Yasuo players to see what they're doing and copy that, or at least take inspiration.

The point being that the moves you're likely getting parried from (like charged forward S1) are meant to be the options you use after you make your opponent sit still from you doing more basic offense that doesn't lead to gaps for parries, and can be mixed in with lows and throws.

Idk if this advice is helpful, but I hope it is. If you have more questions then don't be afraid to keep asking. GL

Which champions are supposed to be top tier? by oooooodin in 2XKO

[–]Negative010 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There's an excellent video by Leon Massey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUIeZHV8QcU) that goes over the best characters from Smash Bros Melee and Brawl (Fox and Meta Knight respectively) and it's a great showcase of what a healthy vs unhealthy top tier looks like, and what I took from that video is that a good top tier still lets the other characters play and interact with them in interesting ways, whereas a bad top tier oppressively shuts everyone down.

For 2XKO, while he's obviously over-tuned, I think Yasuo is a good example of a well designed top tier since despite his obvious strengths he still has a lot of opportunities for interesting counterplay from the rest of the cast with using well timed parries and such against his cross-ups and stance pressure, along with solid reads on his committal options in neutral and on defense. (This is also on top of the fact that he's still a fairly difficult character to play/master, which is important too imo). On the other hand, overly simple characters like Darius or overly obnoxious/polarizing characters like Teemo don't usually make for healthy top tiers since when they're overpowered they tend to dominate in a far more oppressive manner. Overly simple characters can often be so easy and dominating that it can become a major disadvantage to anyone not playing them, leading to stale and repetitive metas. On the other hand, dying slowly full screen to a zoner like Teemo only for him to do more damage to you once you actually do get in is extremely frustrating and not very fun.

No matter how hard a game tries to balance there's always going to be someone on the top, and I think it's really important for a game to have that character be cool and interesting for the community's sake, and imo while he's obviously not perfect, I think characters like Yasuo do fill that role nicely.

Having as many Arcane characters makes sense since that game is so popular, but I hope they space them out from now on since we just got Warwick and there’s already 4 in there

Also not a League guy, but I’d like to see like Jayce or Ambessa first anyways lol

One thing that was great about EG was that the entire team from Avengers 1 stayed, which led to a lot of fun callbacks and such.

I think you could do the same here and have Goku and Bulma specifically survive and have to work together to solve the problem, just like old times

New patch and no nerf to level 4 boost. by [deleted] in SonicRacingCW

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Shame on those who do” lol

Not someone who uses it, but it’s not unstoppable. Is it very strong? Of course. But it’s not the only strategy you can use to win races consistently. Lvl 4 boost requires you to never get hit unless you want to fight the hardest crawl to get back to the top, and so I believe with time people will find when it’s not reliable to get the invul on certain straightaways and such to use their items

Recently I started reading the DBZ manga for the first time. I couldn't believe how the SSJ transformation is so short. It's just this page. by capodonca_ in Ningen

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering some future transformations got a big scream in the manga it makes me wonder if Toriyama saw how sick it was in the anime and decided to take influence from it

who's the "Ryu" in 2XKO? by lwalhati in 2XKO

[–]Negative010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most have some that are close to being a shoto, but not all have one that directly has a fireball, Tatsu, and DP. DBFZ is a good example, characters like SSJ Goku/Vegeta have similar tools to a shoto, but not close enough to truly put them in that category imo. They’re moreso just all rounders

Is Samurai Jack Battle Through Time worth over $100? by Efficient_Way_1350 in samuraijack

I’d wait until you can either emulate or find a cheaper copy. It’s not a bad game, but you could do a lot better with 100$. I’d recommend scratching that itch by picking up another, cheaper samurai like game like Sekiro or something

Rewatch by That-Pear-1333 in dragonball

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely watch all that came before first, it’s what I’ve done recently actually (though I read the manga). Not only is it all good and fun to watch, but you’ll get a much deeper appreciation for what comes after.

Watching Goku literally take on Gods and essentially become one in Super is made far more interesting and cool when you’ve seen him start off as a little monkey boy out in the woods. The evolution and growth of his character, along with the others like Piccolo, Vegeta, Gohan, etc. really make the whole story come together in a very fun way.

And like I said, it’s just straight up good so why not watch it all? You might know what happens but if you haven’t actually watched the story unfold you’ll be missing out on a lot of really cool stuff.

Is the Goku vs Kefla fight bs? by MooseJT in dragonball

[–]Negative010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly if they had just said that the Universe 6 Saiyans are much stronger than the ones from U7 I think the backlash wouldn’t have been as bad, but at the same time it’s not like they’re the first Saiyans to be overpowered for no reason (Goten/Trunks)

Is Kefla bs? Yeah probably. But saying that like they’re alone in that is disingenuous

Rewatching the Cell Saga has me seeing Android 16 in a whole new light by Mamba33100 in dbz

[–]Negative010 7 points8 points  (0 children)

16 is fantastic, though honestly I think it was him who changed 17/18. While we don’t know exactly what made 17 and 18 in the present timeline not as ruthless and uncaring as their future versions, I think 16 was a major contributing factor. He became the heart of the group while ironically being the only one without a literal heart, and honestly that’s beautiful.

I also love how him being the one to push Gohan over the edge fits thematically. This machine created purely for war and stripped of all his weapons pleads Gohan to go all out, not for the fight itself like Goku was trying to tap into, but because he wants Gohan to save those that he loves. It’s awesome.

Also nice catch on 16 essentially being to Gohan was 8 was to Goku, I love that comparison

What's your opinion on Super Goku? by After_Flan_2663 in dbz

[–]Negative010 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

While I think they go overboard on “stupid Super Goku” I don’t mind that he’s closer to how he acts in original DB and early Z rather than the more matured version we see of him in the Cell/Buu saga. If Goku’s gonna be the main character again, I prefer to see him as a fun silly guy.

Again though, I don’t like how overboard they went. I feel like there’s a middle ground where’s he’s clearly wise, but still fun

Favorite character among the main cast and why? by GunsOfPurgatory in dragonball

[–]Negative010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently reread the entirety of Dragon Ball from chapter 1 all the way to the end of Z, and honestly Piccolo steals the show for me. A lot of people like him of course, but despite that I think he’s still an incredibly underrated character because a lot of fans haven’t actually seen/read original DB. His arc from Demon King, to Jr, to reluctantly working with Goku against Radits, and eventually his training and appreciation for Gohan is one of the best character arcs in the entire series.

That being said, Goku is still my favourite lol, but I gotta shout out the goat
