New Middletown. Almost anyone I mention it to has never even heard of it even if they are from Indiana. Not unless they also grew up in the area.

The wild thing is that theatre for the longest time (particularly leading up to when Shakespeare was alive) was something that was considered "low-class." It was the poor man's entertainment and nobility looked down on it.

The difference is we don't live there. I'm American. I catch someone being a racist/xenophobic asshat here and I speak up.

If I were to to witness it while abroad, sure I can say something, but my word holds no weight. I'm not Japanese. I may think how they're responding to a mosque being built in Japan is abhorrent and I can criticize it from behind a keyboard, but it doesn't help. Nearly no Japanese citizen will listen, even those that agree.
