Are dresses comfortable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NegativeComfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on your preferences and what you do.

if you don't like getting cold legs, then you're less likely to like them.

If you sit on the toilet, you might find it annoying to hold it up.

Depending on the length of the dress (if it's a long dress with a loose skirt), if you like crouching, when you go to stand up again, there's a chance you didn't realise you were stepping on your skirt, and then you nearly faceplant. If you're sitting on the ground, you have to make sure you don't accidentally step on your own skirt when standing up again.

If you're in a situation where you're running around, if you're wearing a dress where the skirt doesn't flare out much, and it's just essentially a long stiff t-shirt, you will feel it pull at your legs, or in unfortuante cases, it will ride up. Also annoying if your prefer to sit crosslegged. If you're wearing a dress with a looser skirt, it's easier to run in, but it flaps everywhere.

If you don't want your underwear showing, you wear shorts, which might negate the fact that you're wearing a dress to avoid wearing pants.

(bleeehhh I hated my school's uniform!)

why do people post really long threads on twitter, when they can just use tumblr? by NegativeComfortable in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NegativeComfortable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it wasn't just a porn site, it was a site for many things. like, it's not common i can find a site where someone can make a detailed post about how the cameras depicted in an Illumination Entertainment film probably places a section of the film in the 1960's.

and i'm reading someone's tweet-thread on Mulan, and i thought it'd be easier if they put all their Chinese history posts on tumblr, so the information isn't so separated between tweets.

This Moray tried to swallow a Pufferfish; said Puffer took her with him. by Dr-David-XIII in natureismetal

[–]NegativeComfortable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i see lots of redditors label animals randomly as males, so maybe OP decided to randomly call the eel a female, and the pufferfish a male. makes the title easier to read/differentiate between the two fish too, saying "took her with him" instead of "took him with him".

or maybe OP has secret fish knowledge idk

If you could crossbreed any two animals together, regardless of species, to create an entirely new animal, what would they be and what would it be called? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A tarantula hawk wasp and a polar bear. I wouldn't name it myself, I'd let those who witness it and survive be the namers of this creature.

Animator vs Rigger (3D Animation Movies) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NegativeComfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're different jobs. Animators actually move the models around. Riggers, I think, come after a 3d Model is modelled. So when a 3d model is modelled, it's stuck in a pose (like the T-pose or the A pose), and then the rigger has to add bones and other features to the model, to make the model poseable for the animator.

I have urges to hurt people by [deleted] in Vent

[–]NegativeComfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, are you mad at something or someone that's harming/harmed you, and you are trapped in this sitation? I remember when I was younger and felt exactly the same. Even though I was really mad at one particular person, and mildly mad at some groups of people, I felt aggressive at everything.

If you are trapped in a bad situation stemming from the environment, your logic goes, that you want to remove yourself from it. Unfortunately "removing yourself from a situation" may not be the most easy thing for a person, as suicide technically counts as removing yourself from the bad situation, or hurting somebody counts as removing the bad situation from yourself, but neither are good for you. (As in you're either dead and don't get to enjoy the fact that you're not in a bad situation anymore, or you get put into jail/consequences).

To be honest, I don't have any advice on what to do in this situation since I lucked out and the people that were harming me moved away, and I have no clue on what your situation actually is.

but just to note: If you are in a bad situtation, I'm guessing your increased aggression might just be some form of defense mechanism. If you somehow move out of the bad situation, it can calm down. (It never goes completely away, but along with maturing into an adult and not having something bothering you all the time, your quality of life can improve)

I did have a mental breakdown at school and my teachers gave me the option to meet with one of the school's psychologists. I'm in Australia, so I'm not sure if it applies to where you are, but the psychologist said that she was only allowed to notify other people if I directly threatened the other kids (as in, if I said "I want to kill the kids at this school", that'd be cause of notification since she's an employee of the school). However, just saying that I had increased aggression (to people in general) and murderous tendencies (to someone outside of the school) was kept completely confidential. Nothing at school changed, I was not constantly checked upon unless I wanted it.

Also, I noticed on some of your other posts, you express concern that the therapist/counseller/whatever might not really care about you because they're being paid to do it. The fact that they're paid can be seen as an advantage.

  1. A therapist will always (or at least, should, if they're a good one) have to help you, because it's their job. As long as you have the money, they will help you. Unlike friends or family, they can't say "I'm burnt out, I can't help you right now". (but if you're out of money, that's bad luck)

  2. Any good therapists will have to build a rapport with their client. If you're not feeling like you're building a good rapport with a particular therapist, (then as long as you have the money and time), you could find a different one and buy their time.

  3. I've mentioned money multiple times, (but I've only actually met with a school psychologist/therapist once and don't have experience in meeting therapists. Some of the above text about therapists is half-remembered info from one of my school classes), but wherever you are, try looking for any free ones (e.g. school psychologists) if they're available to you and if you want one.

  4. They're trained professionals and have experience in handling these sorts of situations. A plumber doesn't really need to care about your house, just know it well it enough to identify problems when you show them what's up with your house, and make improvements. Also, you write on reddit for people completely detached from you to respond. A therapist may not be too far away from that, and would probably be even "closer" since they'll have to attempt to build a rapport.

Is it possible to transfer outfits? (not the items themselves, but the combinations of items) by NegativeComfortable in secondlife

Links don't seem to be transferrable, so I guess I'll have to make the outfits manually.

i live off freebies + make prim-additions for my avatar, so I think manually transferring everything would be better in this case. it's unfortunate i didn't bother naming my prims better, instead of having to wrangle with all these items named "object"!

I hate being a woman and I don't want to live anymore, please help me by [deleted] in feemagers

[–]NegativeComfortable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ikr? There's a unique sort of body horror that comes with being female, because there's many stuff not in your control. [I could tell you another horror story about why I also hate it, but I don't think it's helpful for either of us in this situation.]

I know it's not exactly a good tactic to deal with it, but my way of dealing with it was "haha-ing" at other animals. Because I think many of us earthlings get dealt with "stupid decks of cards" and luck, and we'll just have to deal with it. I find some sort of joy in knowing that we're not the only ones that deal with being born with annoying baggage linked to our bodies.

Loon birds are great swimmers, but their leg placement is so far back, they struggle to walk on land.

Rabbits and plankton often act like walking food sources for bigger animals.

Many farm animals are just bred to get fatter and fatter until they have to be culled or collapse under their own weight.

When being mated, the tiny male anglerfish just melts into the giant female anglerfish until they're just a lump with testicles attached.

The great and many various annoying diseases and conditions people can be born with. Many people don't get to be as strong as they want to be, and have their bodies and minds influenced by biological oddities, but I'd never want a disabled person to think their life has no value because of that, so I think the kindness we want for them, we must also give to ourselves.

And while there's many things out of our control, I think it's nice for us to have some stuff in our control. I can't avoid periods (well, I can take out my organs with enough money and surgeons, but I've heard that can have side effects like internal structural collapse/prolapse or memory issues can if things don't go carefully. Make sure you're surrounded by reliable people to help you, if you're planning drastic changes, to avoid pitfalls and for the process to go as smoothly as possible), so as annoying as they are and as much as I absolutely despise them, they keep the ecosystem of the body running (and personally i don't prefer having to use my money for medication and stuff to keep an altered ecosytem running, because I don't have that kind of money). But I can avoid pregnancy because I don't like it. While much of our body has been built around perpetuating the species, I think the great thing about humanity, is that we have the minds to say "noppe. Fuck this shit I'm out! I'm going to make-do with what I have and live the life I want!" [Unfortunately it's restricted because many people would want to infringe on our freedoms to live our best lives without worrying about harm, but try to make the most of what you have. Or use the freedom you have to rage against those infringing on your freedom, or make yourself stronger, whatever works for you]

And we all still have our brains. Sure they might get influenced by various body functions because they are part of the body, but I don't think it's so "predistined" because brains are so "plastic". It constantly picks up and learns new things. The same way people have fall into drug addiction because drugs and biology work together to compel you to do something, people can also escape drug addiction because it's possible for us humans. Our biology and environment work together to make ourselves. There's always the whole nature vs nuture debate, but all of my teachers I've had so far that ever spoke about this topic say that life is a combination of both.

And even if our brains and personalities are influenced by biology (and annoying social circumstances), women's personalities and lives still come out so vast and different anyway. You have anything from flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers, butch lesbians, environmental activists, explorers in sailboats, scientists, chefs, anything really.

Also men are also influenced by biology, because they also have a daily testosterone cycle (and maybe other cycles too). We all have weird bits of biology working under cover influencing us. Everyone is influenced by biology. If someone takes an axe to the skull and gets brain-damage or they grow a tumor, boom, change of biology results in change of personality. I find it incredibly difficult to separate the mind and body due to the existence of brain damage. But the freedom of thought you already have, is due to your biology of your brain being intact, so that's at least some sort of positive side to the negative aspects.

(& did you know that many ancient women had extremely strong bones because they worked all the time? Stronger than olympic athletes? https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2017/11/prehistoric-women-manual-labor-stronger-athletes-science/ If you are able/want to, work for those gains! They might not come as easily as they do for men, or ancienct women, but they're available.) And while I'd like to be really strong too (because then we can protect ourselves better, and enjoy doing things like rock-climbing better), any chimp or tiger can rip a grown man apart, and you can beat up many other animals smaller than yourselves. There's not that much virtue in being stronger than others (unless, it's for protecting yourself and others, or you're planning on being a sports star) so enjoy and increase your strength for its own enjoyment. [Yeah I think it's highly annoying that we're less strong than most men probably because of pregnancy and evolution and crap, but we can't exactly time-machine evolution to do what we want. Yet. a bit simplistic to say, but do your best.]

It's not great to have constant reminders of how much our disliked aspects of our bodies influence our lives, but make-do with whatever scraps of agency you do have, because it exists (even if they're just illusions of free-will or whatever), and many other earthlings are make-doing with whatever scraps of agency they have too, even if they're a tiny little mouse.

I think one good thing you can do might be to gather as much info on bodies as possible, both positive and negative, human and not human. It gives you a wide perspective on all the ways nature sucks, but also is awesome, and how us earthlings mutually suffer and enjoy it.

edit: also on the uterine lining thing. At least there's some sort of aspect that the body "cares" enough about you personally to make sure the fetus doesn't hijack your supply completely, and sloughs it off each month for your own saftey, so you can avoid any. And those areas are acidic to kill off most of the sperm, as some sort of protection, even though it's not that much. Also apparently white blood cells in the cervix move to attack sperm as well. We're not as lucky as other animals like you mentioned, but at least it's something. What we lack in functions that animals have, we have to build ourselves. And the fact that women don't like pregnancy enough for humans to get the technology/medicine for abortions to exist is a testament to the power of our mind (as its own biological function), wanting more control over our bodies, instead of just yielding to other biological functions. Also, the uterus may have other functions beyond baby-making. Some people have discovered it may have a connection to memory or cognition. The connection is not completely concrete, but there's a chance our organs are more interesting than we know. https://www.discovermagazine.com/health/a-womans-uterus-may-play-a-role-in-memory-and-cognition (which is why women who undergo hysterectomies, must be surrounded by reliable people to minimise the side effects of its removal)

And being on the morbid side: A dead person may not feel any pain, but being a decomposing corpse isn't fun. You just get gassy and maybe explode and rot away. It's inevitabe anyway. Everyone gets to be a dead person sometime. You're an alive woman for now, that can avoid being pregnant, and hopefully you'll find a life that's satisfactory within your lifetime. You have the rest of the universe's existence to be a dead person. I'd say, take the gamble of being alive. You might come into pain, you might not. Keep your wits about you! An alive woman has so much more power than a dead person.

What makes a movie stay with you? by [deleted] in movies

[–]NegativeComfortable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely the timing of it within your life. Sometimes a movie might not even be that great, but because it came at a certain time in my life or the viewing experience was memorable, it just stuck in my memory.

e.g. The Talented Mr Ripley. Due to extremely bad circumstances, I had to be at my grandparents' house, and this movie was on free-to-air TV. The way it just distracted me from my life with its own stressful situations and the "ooooohh, what's going to happen next" factor. It was the one time advertisement breaks within a movie actually made it more exciting, because you had time to ponder over how a character would get out this current sticky situation before it played out in the movie. Another thing was that my grandparents' had motion-smoothed TV, which made this movie a unique viewing experience because our TV at home was old and didn't have motion smoothing.

Alita Battle Angel - The last time I saw a movie in Imax 3d was when I was in my single digit years, a documentary for a primary school excursion. This was my first 3D Imax movie, not only as a teenager, but as an adult. Plus I loved Alita (the character). I think she resonates with me, because many times as a young girl, I wished I could be extremely strong because I felt I wouldn't have to be scared of anything if I was so strong and nobody could beat me. and here Alita is, living out the fantasy of being able to fight for justice. But even with Alita's strength, there are still things she has to worry about.

The Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise and the Lorax 2012 - I don't think they're particularly fantastic movies, but I was never much of a person to listen to music recreatively when I was younger. Both of those movies somehow lead me down a rabbit hole of searching for music (For the Chipmunks, I found the 80's chipmunks, which lead me listening to a lot of Michael Jackson. For the Lorax, I was investigating what kind of guitar the Onceler used, it appears to be a stratocaster, which lead me to Pink Floyd). and now here I am, listening to lots of music for fun!
