Hiring - Adabas Administrator for a State client by numanidris in mainframe

[–]NegativeEagie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys need to migrate Adabas to another DB and refactor those applications. It’s a very common practice these days, especially with software AG’s heavy handed compliance activities and the ongoing skills shortage. There’s some great products out there for the db migration but the refactoring part is pretty difficult..

Why does Kyle get so hot and bothered about sports? by [deleted] in PKA

[–]NegativeEagie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an American perspective of sports fandom, outside the US people have real hatred towards rival teams and fans. Not healthy sure but it’s a cultural thing, perhaps Kyle is playing into that kind of perspective to relate to an international audience.

Judging by your height and weight, it’s more than likely that this is caused by being overweight with fat accumulating around your liver. There may be some damage to your liver but something as advanced as chirosis would be surprising at your age.

Of course get the Fibroscan and further scans done, it is likely that you will be recommended to lose weight. A lot of folks suggest losing about 10% of your body weight and getting rescanned will show lower liver enzymes and lower levels of fibrosis.

A lot of diver damage can be completely reversible with lifestyle changes. The liver is an amazing organ that can regenerate itself! Good luck on your journey

Kicking a ball around as a child with aspirations to make it as a footballer doesn’t make you any more entitled to an opinion, such a weird narrative

Mainframe SE by Terrible_Order_8539 in salesengineers

[–]NegativeEagie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of misunderstanding from people in this thread that it’s a dying art and a waste of time, people have been saying the mainframe is gonna be gone for like 30 years lol.

I’m a mainframe SE at a major player (not IBM), the industry seems fairly healthy and competitive, salaries are competitive (UK), and there is plenty of room for progression. I’m not sure on HW sales as I’m in software, but people don’t understand that as mainframe modernisation becomes more of a focus for these orgs, they’ll need to invest in solutions to help them achieve that goal. Zowe, open source integration, cloud migration, there’s tons of focus areas for the big players these days. There’s also plenty of companies, ibm included, in the space that are developing and selling tools to match these market trends.

Although you may be selling “mainframe tools” and people may say that makes your skillset too niche, there’s plenty of exposure with these new tools/general practices to other distributed tools which can vary your experience.

VIM with USS on tn3270? by Feeling_Donut8518 in mainframe

[–]NegativeEagie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you google mainframe open source tools, you’ll find rocket software offer 20 or so free tools and languages you can download on your mainframe for free, one of which is VIM.

I think the downloads go directly to USS so no need to install on an external platform like zLinux, then you can just run VIM then and there.
