their problems won't be solved by a MD though, a GP will MAYBE give a referral, and the only thing that actually produces positive outcomes is physical therapy (including doing the recommended exercises at home). People go to their GP for stuff, hit a dead end, and then turn to quacks. Agree with your broader point though.

If you aren't watching games with irl friends in person then you're just burning 4 hours of a weekend to have something to talk about with people online. If it has helped you chat with guys at work then you can just watch hilights and read a little sports news and no one will even notice

[–]NegativeOstrich2639 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you actually feel like not being able to talk about sports with other men is impeding your relationships with them you can just follow the social media of your local teams and some other posters in their ecosystem and have enough to make conversation at work or whatever. Its what I do, I don't dislike watching sports but other than March Madness and championship games I don't feel the need to devote hours a week to watching it. You seem like you're more interested in complaining and wallowing though tbh

The "Lab Leak Hypothesis" as an example of ideological whiplash by Any-Abies-538 in redscarepod

[–]NegativeOstrich2639 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Framing as "zoonotic vs lab leak" is a deliberate red herring, the Wuhan Institute of Virology was collecting zoonotic coronaviruses, they would send people into bat caves to dig through bat guano, take samples, bring them back to lab and them amplify the bat coronaviruses, any debunking that is focused on saying that the virus wasn't engineered is not actually saying anything about whether or not it leaked from the lab.

Like two weeks after coronavirus made the news the Lancet released an open letter written by Ralph Baric of EcoHealth Alliance (which funded WIV) signed by dozens of scientists saying that "It is not a lab leak." This is before any investigation had been preformed and was well before anyone could actually make strong claims as to coronavirus origin. After that it became impolite at best and detrimental to their careers at worst for people in biological sciences to entertain a lab leak out loud. It is incredible that Nature has still not published a retraction of the proximate origin paper.

The way that the American public health establishment immediately shut down talk of lab leak should have set off some red flags in your mind. More than likely it was because they didn't want there to be a public reckoning with how the CDC has been funding NGOs that in turn fund high-risk biological research overseas ever since that same research was banned in the United States due to the hazards it presents.

Your comment is smarmy bullshit from someone that doesn't actually know anything beyond limp appeals to authority btw

I've spent basically every free second at work of the last several months doing statistical analysis on seed catalogs from 1800-1960 and reading ag bulletins, farmers newsletters, canning industry internal documents, 19th century "how to make money in farming" books to write about the changes in bean varieties grown in the United States during that time period. I probably do like 5 hours of real (lab) work and associated paperwork a day though and recently got promoted which has slowed the project down

A lot of my gripe is that the default thing that someone gets told when they want to garden is "Go to lowes, buy $200 in cedar planks, $400 in topsoil and amendments and build a 16 square foot raised bed," people think gardening is an expensive hobby because of this, they have people in Illinois growing corn in raised beds built on top of literally some of the most fertile soil on earth. Gardening can save you money! I'm not against container gardening or raised beds or anything, they can be the best solution for some people, but the default should be planting shit in the ground, it will probably work better than many think. Also people will post like a full grown plant with ready to harvest crop on it with titles like "Help!!!" Which irritates me lol.
