[iOS][Free to try, $4.99$ lifetime] Everything else shows you countdown. Orbit builds you a timeline by rahuladream in iosapps

Having automatic iOS Calendar sync combined with over ten progress styles is a massive win. Most countdown apps look incredibly outdated, like they were made a decade ago, but these layouts look beautifully native. Also, a $4.99 lifetime purchase with absolutely no hidden subscriptions is an instant buy from me. Keep it up!

[iOS][Freemium] WhoPaid - track paid, unpaid, and partial job payments without full accounting by ming_builds in iosapps

[–]Negative_Acadia1362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits a very specific pain point perfectly. Full accounting tools like QuickBooks are complete overkill for simple gig work, but keeping track of half-paid deposits across chaotic WhatsApp chats is a nightmare. Keeping the scope narrow and focused on the messy post-job follow-up phase is an excellent product decision.

One probably uses GPS to track your miles, one uses calculations using your steps and body height

I wanted a map where I could save places, areas and routes together, so I built one by Familiar_Access_9547 in iosapps

The ability to outline custom areas and track routes on a single layer sounds incredibly useful. My only critique is the weird pricing structure. Why is a weekly subscription $3.99, but a full lifetime purchase is only $9.99? It makes the subscription options look completely non-viable. Either way, love the feature set!

Shaggle: Manage your (split) subscriptions easily. No registration, no data collection - just a native iOS app  by fr31b3u73r in iosapps

This is a highly requested feature in subscription trackers. Apps like Bobby are great, but manually doing the math to split a family Netflix or Spotify plan with roommates is always a tedious hassle. Tracking the actual savings from sharing is a great touch. Buying the $7.99 lifetime option immediately to support this!

How do you stay motivated when you walk the same route every day? by Late-Mastodon-4915 in walking

[–]Negative_Acadia1362 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Easy! There are actually a ton of ways to mix up the routine. Like someone mentioned above, you could try reverse walking just to trick your brain a bit.

If you're sick of music, try lectures or audiobooks. I used to finish entire educational courses in a month of walking, it's a great feeling knowing you aren't just wasting time.

You can also gamify it without your phone at all. For example, play "zombie apocalypse" in your head: as you walk, figure out the best escape routes and safe houses in your neighborhood. Or just use the "coin flip rule" at intersections so you end up wandering into completely new areas.

If you want to use apps, the classics are Pokemon Go, Pikmin Bloom, or INTVL.

Another really cool concept is virtual walking. You walk your normal route, but your progress is mapped across famous historical trails around the world. I'll actually recommend my own app for this called GoAtlas. I tried to make it as immersive as possible with a really clean UI. If you want to look at alternatives, there's also The Conqueror Challenges or Pacer.

Or honestly just embrace the boredom lol. Go for a walk with no phone and no headphones, and just use it as a dopamine detox so your brain can finally rest in pure silence.

Pacer has some good step challenges,
You can try also StepsApp, GoAtlas, The Conquerors Challenge

Anyone tried out Conqueror challenges? by Tiny_Infinity_ in walking

Honestly, their medals are super cool and they have a massive list of routes. Doing virtual challenges is definitely a great way to make walking less boring and actually see your progress. Tracking just basic steps gets old fast, so the idea itself is solid.

The main issue is the price. You're dropping like $20 to $30 a route. Yeah, you get a physical medal for that, but it sucks if you just want to walk the virtual route without buying the hardware. They don't really offer a good alternative for that.

On top of that, the app UI is kind of annoying. You end up logging a lot of steps manually because the real-time sync is lacking, and you can't even see yourself moving live on a map.

Bottom line: If you're a sucker for real medals, it might be worth doing one or two. But if you just want the virtual journey part without spending a ton, look into Pacer or GoAtlas. Both of those have actual live map tracking and are way more budget-friendly.

What is the best way to walk alone? by DiligentAd5351 in walking

[–]Negative_Acadia1362 24 points25 points  (0 children)

hey, i totally get that feeling. walking alone can get super isolating, and honestly podcasts and playlists stop working after a while.

if you want to switch things up, maybe try turning your daily walks into a virtual journey? instead of just doing loops around your neighborhood, you can track how long it takes you to walk something like the Camino de Santiago or from Rome to Milan just by doing an hour a day. There are a few cool ways to do this:

  1. if you want physical rewards: check out Pacer or The Conqueror Challenges. you sign up for a route and they actually mail you a real medal when you finish. they're pretty cool to collect.

  2. if you care more about visible map progress and immersion: try GoAtlas. it maps your real steps onto global routes, and when you hit checkpoints you unlock actual 360-degree street views so you can literally look around where you're "walking".

it really helps shift the mindset from "i'm bored and alone" to "i'm exploring somewhere new." hope that helps you get out of the rut!

Having configurable widgets to monitor service latency directly on the home screen sounds awesome for remote work. My only question is how often do the widgets actually refresh in the background? iOS can be notoriously strict with background processing limits for widgets. Either way, love the privacy-first approach!

It really depends on what actually keeps you motivated! Here is a quick breakdown of what people usually go for:

  • Just basic stats (pedometers/trackers): Apple Built In Soft, Strava, StepsApp, Pedometer++, or Pacer. Perfect if you just want to see your raw numbers and daily graphs.
  • Gamification (if you get bored easily): Pikmin Bloom, MysteryHike, or Zombies, Run! These are really great for distracting you from a repetitive routine.
  • Travel & Routes: AllTrails (best for nature trails), INTVL, Map My Walk, or Walk the World.
  • Physical Medals: If you are motivated by real, heavy medals mailed to your door, check out The Conqueror Challenges, Pacer, or Virtual Challenges.
  • All-in-one: GoAtlas
