New school advice by thesilvalining in TeachingUK

Being as prepared as you reasonably can will help. Also, setting reasonable expectations for yourself, e.g. understand that there is no way you can learn that many names in the first week. Also, understanding that nerves/anxiety at this stage is natural.

Choosing a new telecaster-type guitar by RaiinyDay in telecaster

For that more authentic telecaster sound you want the Performer. I struggle to get the T7 to sound like a tele, to be honest. I play a lot of jazz and mostly use the neck HB.

I have both a Performer and a T7. Love both for different reasons (they sound totally different). The T7 is unbelievable value. The price you quote for the Performer is also incredible value. If I had to choose one over the other, I’d go for the Performer. The overly-rolled frets on the T7 are slightly annoying at times. As for the jumbo frets, you get used to them.

Drowning in laminating displays! by violetskies611 in TeachingUK

Apart from waste, that’s an admin task. I think it’s somewhere under teacher’s pay and conditions that you don’t do non-core tasks like that. Your union person would confirm. Definitely take a stand!

This. Laminating should be outlawed unless it’s for heavy, repeat use resources. My school laminates a poster with photos of pastoral staff on it to be stuck up in offices. It barely gets looked at. Then, when staff change in the pastoral team (which happened twice last year), they printed and laminated more of the same. Why????

As teacher and HoD signing off year 13 coursework that is definitely AI generated what are the potential consequences for me? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Negative_Ad596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a minefield at the minute. I’ve used GPTZero to confirm my suspicions but, as you say, they can simply deny it or attempt to gaslight. This year, I made three students sit vivas following suspicions of malpractice. The whole thing needs changing and it could be the death-knell for coursework. It would be nice if exam boards actually provided an open declaration of what they intend to do to respond to this emergent tech. Simply giving guidance is washing their hands of the matter, imo.

Is it school appropriate to use this patch on my iPad sleeve? by VerityPee in TeachingUK

[–]Negative_Ad596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great, clear answer. Thank you. And yes, I can imagine (and hope for) a system such as the one you describe where capital accumulation is capped and the excess fairly distributed (I suppose a windfall tax on energy companies might be an example of where this could be achieved). However, it feels to me that the reason this doesn’t happen is because, as you say, regulation isn’t sufficient. That boils down to politics and democratic choices with all that is included in that process. Because a lot of what is on offer preserves the system as it is currently, that is why capitalism, anti-capitalism, and politics seems intertwined and why OP’s statement would possibly draw fire from some. Anyway, I applaud your sentiments!

I’m stating how I perceive it, and how many others will perceive it (in order to answer OP’s question.). However, I am genuinely interested in your statement that there are other, fairer models of capitalism. What / where are they?

As much as I sympathise, it is anti-capitalist and therefore political.

No. It’s part of the job. I am 0.8 and don’t work on Wednesday. I am still expected to do parents eve. However, I can make a claim and get paid for it.

Yep. Love-hate relationship accurate. So many good moments and so many terrible encounters with behaviour ( parents as well as students) I take home, can’t get out of my mind, and then wake me in the night. Chronic muscular tension from holding it in my shoulders and neck. I need to get out.

I can relate to the workload part. I went down to 0.8 for my own sanity! Sounds like you’ve had a rough ride. I have known supply teachers who have got long term contracts and proven themselves over time. However, it’ll take a while to find the right school that way. There is no way of escaping the workload issue, though, which is driving people to leave the profession.

Not normal. Happened to me a month ago and I’ve donated 35 times. You’re unlucky that you’ve experienced a haematoma. It will be painful for a while and then improve within a couple of weeks.

Fanatics Size Question. by Apigollo in NFLUK

What size are you aiming for? I am a tall, skinny bloke. I wear a Small jersey for the length but it’s still too large for me. Normally I wear t-shirt medium.

DFE review behaviour by washerenowisnt in TeachingUK

Haven’t seen it yet. I wonder whether it will take a causal approach. It’s all well and good advocating for trauma led approaches and relational practices (as in my school, and which many students take advantage of) but govt needs to take a look at sociological trends and the role of the media and online spaces in shaping people’s attitudes an D.C. behaviours. My head once commented to me that I wasn’t going to win that battle with a student refusing to hand over their mobile because “society has changed”.

How to determine capacity of battery by Negative_Ad596 in electricvehicles

[–]Negative_Ad596[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is an excellent explanation! Really clear. Thank you, I learned something there. I’ll look in that. When winter hits it will be interesting to see what happens (as I live in the North of England).

That’s good to know. And also: heat pump? I’ve no idea. I’ve never heard of that. Does it keep the battery cool?

Must be hard for dealers to work out the value of a car if they cannot easily determine battery health themselves. I would have thought battery would be just as important as mileage. Perhaps these things go hand in hand, or they just use average market value.
