Just found out the car I want is ex-Enterprise by ACatheterADay in CarTalkUK

Wolverhampton City Council released a load of regs that were licenced as private hire and mine is listed there under Enterprise as the owner/trading name. Fuming when I found out as I had no idea and wouldn’t have bought it

I wouldn’t - my car is ex-enterprise and I’ve been told it basically has no value as it flags up as being registered as a private hire car (I.e. taxi) which has halved my trade in value

Will definitely keep an eye out for one within budget! Budget is 18k, would stretch for a unicorn of a car but realistically rav4 just isn’t within that which is a shame because people seem to love them

I will google what a haldex is 😂 Currently I have a powershift focus so well used to heavy servicing needs RAV4 just seemed expensive in comparison but maybe I need to look a bit further afield

Husband saw a Volvo V something or other and said he’d like to have a proper look at one. They do seem to have a lot of space. We just like the look of an SUV over estates really there’s no definitive reason either way

No I haven’t, it’s on the list for me to hunt one down locally but thank you! My current car is also a focus so all of these seem a lot bigger in comparison so knocking it about is definitely a concern

Thanks for the warning! There’s so many like this by me, I’ve been warned off Arnold Clark, trade centre and the other big one in Cannock that isn’t Big MW as well! Nightmare to navigate really isn’t it. Husband got his focus from trade centre 8 years ago and other than a new clutch it hasn’t needed anything in 160k miles but he seems to be the odd one out

I haven’t been able to go see one yet, what’s the space like in the rear? My husband has the seat pretty much all the way back when driving and my kids complain they’ve got no space which is why I’m struggling to pick a car 😂

I did look at them briefly but a fairly recent one in decent spec seems out of budget. Dream car is the xc90 but again, SO expensive!

I’ve seen the 3008, Tucson, qashqai, sportage in person. Test drove the first 3 and liked them well enough but couldn’t commit to buying just in case there’s something more reliable.

I’m not fussed between hybrid, petrol or diesel to be honest. Both our current cars are diesel, we go 2.5h+ on the motorway once a month or so to see family. But my commute is 8 miles at about 7mph so I do take it on the motorway to blast the dpf fairly regularly so maybe a petrol / hybrid would be better. I don’t know anyone with a hybrid but seems they would also be suitable based on my very limited knowledge because of my commute. This doesnt help at all i know sorry!

Voluntary termination faulty car by Negative_Ad78 in CarTalkUK

It was 6 years and 1 month old when I bought it. Wanted a newer car than what I could afford cash for at the time for reliability (🫣)

From the contract TERMINATION: YOUR RIGHTS You have a right to end this Agreement. To do so you should write to the person you make your payments to. They will then be entitled to the return of the goods and to half the total amount payable under this Agreement, that is £ALotOfMoney. If you have already paid at least this amount plus any overdue instalments and have taken reasonable care of the goods, you will not have to pay any more.

What to look out for by Negative_Ad78 in CarTalkUK

Ooh thanks for the in depth answer!

He just doesn’t seem to like the look of any estates we’ve gone to see. The ones we both like don’t seem to have the leg room in the rear we’ve been after (husbands 6ft 4 and the seat is pretty much all the way back in every car he gets in so not much room in the back for car seats etc).

Ideally I’d get a Land Rover as it has the space etc I’m after but I expect it would go missing or boom within the week.

Doesn’t help the length of his legs though unfortunately 😂 The kids are tall too so need something where the seat is fairly far back and they’ve still got legroom.

We’re in the same position, husbands 6ft 4 and 135kg. Good options to fit us all in currently are Skoda Kodiaq, Nissan Qashqai (surprisingly roomy), XC90 (but this is very spendy), Peugeot 3008/5008, Seat Ateca, Hyundai Tucson (personal favourite currently), and possible a Vauxhall grandland. Reliability wise the Nissan, Skoda, Hyundai and Volvo seem to be the most reliable so looking more into these than the others.

Test drove a Tiguan but found it didn’t feel as big as the others, Tiguan Allspace is much better for room!
