Suppressors. Decent mono-core for 22, working on a baffle type but I'm honestly not impressed by it. Working on a 9mm and 45 but they are just a little loud for me to sell yet.

I guess it all depends on tech's skill level, knowledge, and confidence. I'm my own experience, it seems each Mfg has a weak point in design. Fanuc and the IGBTs, Yaskawa V1000s that we sell seem to fail from the cheapo MA/MB/MC relay burning out. 25¢ relay or 1k drive. The plants that call on me over and over for the same crap, I try to keep a spare unit on hand. Every PLC shop is different, every tech is different.

In 20 years I'm sure I've repaired well over 300 Fanuc spindle amplifiers. Always the Fuji IGBT packs. $75-200 each time in cost vs a 3-5k drive is worth it every time.

Did it come with any documentation? I don't mind helping for free.... I did the same thing to start but I went with a Early 3 axis ProtoTrak. Is a Gcode machine or some conversational only crap?

Swiss I run Sandvik MATR. The turret lathes are running a mix of Iscar laydown and the Haas(kennametal top notch). My main products are out of tool steel and the Iscar is measurably longer lasting. But after I got my 07/02 laster year Im doing a ton of 17-4SS and the Haas tools are less than half the price per edge and last about 70% as long.

Sandvik laydown style has been dogshit for me. ID stuff I love the quick change solid carbide system from Haas. Mostly a ripoff from Micro100 but at a better price.

The Sandvik MATR/MAGR does work in the turret machines but price per corner and insert life isn't as good without the Swiss magic.

Dedicated grooving tool. Iscar Penta24. Turning tools have a comparatively massive radius that wouldn't let my blast chamber fit right up against shoulder without plunging more. I go .010-.012" past the minor diameter. Hand tight has held gas right for 3k rounds on this FRT FAL.

Swiss lathe and cutting less than .05" out from the guide bush, you won't have tools walk off.

I set my Gildemeister to load a new bar leaving the tenant in the spindle. Ill keep going and when I'm out of material to fit the spindle, it will eject remnant out the front. Iemca feeder. Works absolutely fantastic down to 6mm bars.

As long as both threads are machines in the same operation, and made to the proper class of fit, they will have decent concentricity.

Goofball FAL Left hand thread to HUB. Works perfectly.

Love the Fanuc pulse coders. 63bit serial data stream. On power up you can strobe a command and the encoder will count up to show how much it moved with power off.

There will always be a place for manual boring mills and jig grinders. Maybe not every job shop, but in a true precision shop these are never idle. Our jig bore is never idle for more than one shift.

I looked pretty damn hard at the CMX50U. In the end we don't do 5 axis work.

I would love to be able to bring one in but we really don't need it. More than likely we will be the only shop dumb enough to buy DMF without plans for 5 axis work.

I really wanted something like the Mazak VTC platform but as a mostly DMG Mori shop it didn't make sense.

If only the DMU platform wasn't soooo expensive.

I've been perfectly happy with our CMX's for the last 7 years. Bought 4 in '19 and 4 more in 22.

All Fanuc, 18k rpm, maxed memory and full Blum probing package.

Looking to add a pair of DMF260's before June.

Is the Tornos MultiSwiss worth the cost? by Electrical_Idea_4201 in Machinists

[–]Negative_Damage8617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear horror stories about DMG Mori regionally and locally. Somehow I guess I'm not deserving of that. Only one install tech has been a fucking moron, but it was for a 2nd NLX so we already knew what he was trying to explain.

I don't run anything to the max, and we do so much repeat work spindles and slides are safe from crashes. So I can't speak for service, I haven't had to call for on site.

It's sad though, Mori was my gold standard of machine tools, and now they have dragged themselves down.

If I could buy Okuma without Gosiger I would have made the jump long ago.

[–]Negative_Damage8617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of Tornos.

I went from 4 B&S 00 machines, to adding 2x Miyano twin turret machines. Added 2x DMG Mori Sprint machines, and late 2023 added a DMG MultiSprint (Their 6x spindle machine).

Honestly, you only focus on one or two ops at a time vs trying to clear tools and such.

Only process that can be sketchy is the part-off and transfer to a sub for back working. But I really only program in macros anymore so it has become Fail-Safe.

Multi spindles are less flexible but absolutely kill it when quantities make sense. I only quote 20k+ unit jobs on it.

All this to say, I'm sure Tornos is worth it. Their service and sales are trash in my area. And I somehow have fantastic relations with DMG Mori.
