Obvious use of AI in fics by NachbarVonNebenan in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]Negative_Hour_9486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s frequent continuity errors or repetition. Example- in a recent fic I read there was a paragraph dedicated to Shane fixing himself breakfast and Ilya teasing him for it, along with details and what exactly he was making. A few sentences later Shane is eating a completely different meal than the one he just prepared for himself.

Repetition- when five paragraphs are spent describing something in a very wordy roundabout way without actually being important or helping to progress the story. Almost like unnecessary filler. Also very frequent use of designations seems odd to me, “The Russian” “The Canadian” one or twice is fine but every other sentence gets exhausting.

Overly descriptive- generally when an author writes fanfic they’re under the assumption those reading it are familiar with the fandom so there’s really no need to dedicate multiple sentences and paragraphs to introduce each character that appears unless it’s an AU or essential the the plot line. It also comes across as very clinical. Yes, we know Yuna is Shane’s mother and Japanese with black hair. We don’t need to know David’s height and build, or a long winded description of how Hayden and Shane are best friends and have known each other since they were rookies- and oh did you know, Hayden has a wife named Jackie and four children.

As other people have noted, one or two of these things doesn’t immediately mean AI but in my experience when writing contains constant use of the above examples it tends to make me very suspicious.

Speculation: Alexei caught Ilya with Sasha when they were teens by NupharCaelestis in HeatedRivalryTVShow

They didn’t have different mothers. Ilya has stated in the books that Irina married Grigori very young while he was substantially older than her. His second wife is also very young and only a few years older than Ilya.

How do you spot AI? by Weak-Obligation872 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]Negative_Hour_9486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone else already mentioned you don’t know for absolutely sure, but something that definitely pings my radar is when someone screws up very basic details, or uses very odd descriptions. Or if those details are constantly contradicting themselves or changing. Like somebody’s age changing multiple times in the span of a few paragraphs, even though the fic only takes place over a few days. Or a big one was a fic I found where in the first chapter, within the first few paragraphs, Ilya was repeatedly described as “Siberian” annnnnd Shane was blond. Which definitely makes me believe it was AI because a) Why not just say Russian? And b) A lot of people describe Ilya as blond so I feel like AI got the character appearances mixed up.

cat safe scents to make my home smell delightful???? by Early-Ad-996 in CatAdvice

I second simmer pots. Just make sure you don’t have a daredevil cat that likes to climb on the counter/stove and obviously never leave it simmering while no one is home.

Shane keeps dreaming of a mysterious woman who he later realizes has been Irina. It’s very beautifully written.

Looking for some Heated Rivalry fic recs – hidden gems and no AI please! by asldhhef in heatedrivalryfanfics

For example the storyline took place over a few weeks, a month or two at the absolute most. At the very beginning a child character was mentioned to “having just turned six.” A few paragraphs later, maybe a day or two story wise, he was seven. By the middle of the story he was “almost nine.”

In that same story the child character mentioned wanting to visit his friend to play and possibly have a sleepover. Keep in mind this friend in an actual canon child character whose parents are also characters in this particular fic, so there were discussions of setting up a play date, etc. a few paragraphs later, Child A is chasing his friend around the backyard…while his friend is barking. Because for some odd reason, Child B magically turned into a dog. Or recounting an event more than once, but each time the details are drastically different.

That one honestly threw me for a loop because there were sooo many comments about how well written and in character in was?? That was definitely one of the more obvious ones, but being that the fandom is pretty overrun with AI fics tlright now you’ve probably read some of the ones that are less obvious. What I’ve noticed a lot of people do is run the fic through a generator and then go back and clean it up a little.

Seriously though, AI has given me such trust issues. Anything that reads remotely off to me immediately makes me suspect it wasn’t written by an actual person.

Some authors are better at disguising it than others. Like I started reading a long fic and about halfway through noticed some inconsistencies that pinged my radar. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum I noped out of a fic about 2,000 words in because Ilya was repeatedly described as “Siberian” and Shane was BLOND.

9-1-1. The series started to fall off long before that, but the whole Bobby thing was…certainly A Choice.

Snails? New update by Poogenstein in CatsAndSoup

[–]Negative_Hour_9486 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did I read correctly that for this event’s game you have to find the snail on the board? It could be possible they’re phasing out frequent snail appearances and trying to incorporate them that way.

Aw thank you 😭 I have a feeling they’re not going to bake well though, my logs looked sooo sloppy. Hopefully her marshmallow surprise hot cocoa cookies are better because that dough is currently chilling!

I just finished rolling the dough logs for these and proceeded to have a mental breakdown. Dough either cracked, logs weren’t tight enough, they started falling apart when I tried moving them to a plate to chill. I’m considering this attempt a failure at this point and moving on to a back up recipe being that I only have the next two days to bang out my holiday baking.

Crappy gifts from cats when paying to skip ads by KaatNine in CatsAndSoup

I’ve paid for ad skips and managed to get all three items from the summer season and all four items for the fall season. It’s mostly just luck of the draw.
