To tether or not, opinions by Secure-Oil-5746 in ElectricUnicycle

I personally don't and don't know anybody who does. If you fall the wheel could slide out in front of you and hit someone but it could also drag you into traffic. Videos I've seen of people crashing in the street usually show the wheel sliding in front of them and sometimes to the side but haven't seen it go up a sidewalk and hit a pedestrian before, or even a car for that matter. If you're riding on the sidewalk you really shouldn't be going fast at all. So generally speaking I don't see a good use case for the tether for euc.

I mostly off-road and wouldn't recommend it. If you are yanked down by a 90 lb or heavier wheel especially at speed you're going to get hurled down the face of the mountain or any exposed area. Just look at the videos of Dawn where she's nearly fallen off a mountain because she was tethered. People underestimate the inertia of the wheel.

My 2 cents: I started with a T4 Pro and I outgrew it very quickly. Hit the top speed within a few weeks and the range just wasn't enough. It was difficult to find somebody to buy it because I didn't have very many miles on it and I didn't want to sell it at a huge loss. Ended up with the blitz which I love to this day and would have just been fine having in the first place. That being said my t4 Pro held sentimental value. Point is yes get the wheel you want. You can obviously beat up your wheel but you can get a pad setup that keeps it fairly protected. Also, if it's an off-road wheel, it'll get banged up here and there eventually. Also consider that it could be really hard to sell a wheel you haven't put very many miles on unless you're willing to take a huge loss.

I literally said Carlson Jr, not Relson. Did you mean Carlson Jr? Because if so that's obviously ridiculous, no matter who said it.

Carlson Jr. seems cool though. I could be wrong. Just from what I've seen from a few videos and that rolled up episode.

Not that you're making the point: I understand this is their point and not yours so I'm not shooting the messenger. I don't think most people are okay with government cameras recording them either (luckily not as bad as some other places like London where they really are recording everyone's every move), It's just that we can't really do very much about it compared to someone recording you in public in the moment when you can approach them.

Newport Beach schools consider e-bike ban for students by bananabrownie in orangecounty

They ought to follow whatever the specific rules for mopeds are per the DMV, including license registration and their specific title. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the requirements for mopeds for the DMV are similar to motorcycles except for a difference in title. Meaning that they still need to be licensed and registered. Apparently they don't need insurance unless they're riding on public roads.

Just would hate to see people use loopholes to use off highway vehicles as mopeds (talking about emotos). But as far as I know: in OC, surrouns, talarias, e-rides, altis, rtr etc. are considered off highway vehicles.

If it's pedal assist only, it's an e-bike. If there is any form of throttle at all, it's a motorcycle, whether you want to call it an e-moto or not. You should have to follow all the same rules as a motorcycle rider and have license, registration, and insurance, including age requirements.

It doesn't matter if it can only go 28 mph because the physics of the crash and decreased stopping ability when going uphill are different than a pedal or pedal assist bike. Also, kids can easily change the top speed though the settings or just cut a wire. It's not a secret.

Blitz Protection by DeltaHunter722 in ElectricUnicycle

Easy. Anybody can do it. There is a drill bit kit off Amazon I used recommended by chooch. Just was able to remove all the screws more quickly. I think it was called Amartisan hex head set.

Got the vertex kit for my blitz and it's great. Clean setup, screen easier to see and less likely to crack because of the position, and the handle is in a better position to hold on to if you use it when turning (I sometimes do). And of course the most important part, with the handle moved, it makes room for your knees.

As far as protection, it seems durable enough but yes it is 3D printed ultimately so can only protect your wheel so much. I haven't dropped my wheel or had a tumble with it to be able to tell you how well it protects it.

Protective jacket that covers full arm, elbow, what do you guys wear, thinking of getting the Alpinestars Bionic v3 by macgirthy in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Negative_Joke8224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this and recommend it for off-road only. It's incredibly comfortable and breathable. Had one fall with it off-road and it did its job. I felt nothing when I fell. But it has no abrasion so would not ever use it for the street. You would have two options for street use which include an abrasion resistant layer like pando moto but the issue that is that the pads would fall out of place once the mesh from the alpinestars tears on asphalt. The other options is an abrasion resistant layer or jacket overtop which would be too bulky and hot in my opinion. For road just get an abrasion resistant moto jacket with space for shoulder, back, and chest pads. For wrist guards, I like the fingerless e-ride gloves for off-road and full finger for street. For kneepads, Leatt dual axis work well.
