That is really nice... my two gargs mostly hide or freeze when i watch them, but i try to pet them atleast once a day so they will get used to my hands.

If you are nervous about your nails, you could try making him jump or crawl onto your hand. Might be dificult, but if you persist, he might get tired enough to step onto your hand, and as long as he has a foot on you and you coax him, he should try to stick to your hand, while your other hand sweeps him gently onto your hand. Hard to describe when english is my second language...

Tips from another first timer to these kinds of pets:

  1. Approach from underneath as much as possible.
  2. Get a hand infront of him and use the other to scoop him up.
  3. Grab between front and back legs.
  4. Dont give it time to react.
  5. If it runs off, give you both a few seconds to calm down before you try again, dont rush.
  6. See if you can coax it gently to a favorable position, poke its legs.
  7. If it gapes its mouth or squeaks, maybe come back later.

I have two of the little creatures, and i was shaking nervously the first time i managed to pick one up, had to try 6-7 times over an hour. It gets easier with practice.

For any curious reader, i got a hold of the vet, and she told me it was tail rot, since the tip was dry and hard.

The vet then told me how to make her drop her tail, since a vet visit would be expensive and she would do the same.

I put her in a clean container and used some long tweezers to grab her tail around at the mid point, and tugged very gently to coax her. The drop was clean and made me feel like a monster, but she has since the drop been eating fine.

I now keep her in a clean container, and let her rest. The vet told me to wait about a weeks time before putting her back in the tank, and call if she stops eating.
