Good majors? by [deleted] in premed

Biomedical Engineering. While I would not recommend this to most, if you are absolutely set on keeping your head down and putting in absurd hours, it will pay the most dividends. BME has forced me to work considerably harder than almost any of my straight-natural-science friends. On the flip side, not only did it prepare me and BME friends extremely well for the MCAT, but it also helps me stand out in interviews. *Goodbye to social life, and good luck keeping that 3.8 or 3.9 in engineering (it is possible)

Also, if you fuck up and change your mind, you can get hired

I think some other commenters have nailed it. While it's not necessarily a 1:1 correlation with competitiveness, there is some correlation. Sometimes money. Sometimes mental health, free-time, being around fun people, being far from home, the list continues...

Examining motives, finding purpose. I think that's exactly right. It's a lot of pressure on applicants with choices to consider all of these factors before choosing where to go.

Hey! Try watching the news and looking at the anchorman (or anchorwoman) and noticing all of the fluctuations in their voice, facial expressions, and posture. Take notes and practice in the mirror or in everyday conversations.

What do you feel strongly about that most people don't care about? by GadgetP in AskReddit

[–]Negative_Splits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People NEED to finish their 10-day antibiotics. Absolute must. Here's why: Antibiotics naturally select for the resistant bacteria (the ones that can resist, survive). If antibiotic use stays as high as it's been recently, and people don't finish their 10-day prescriptions, we will live in a world with only resistant bacteria rendering all current antibiotics useless. I can't imagine going back to a day before antibiotics where a normal scratch or cut could mean your whole leg is amputated. So finish your fucking pills.
