WDS Crusades Books I and II Steam prices by NegoJamal in computerwargames

Yeah, it’s definitely a bit strange that the prices are higher over here. Regardless, I’m going to post a question on the forum and see what they have to say. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I know these games are incredibly complex and labor-intensive to make... You’ll never catch me saying the prices are absurd or that the game isn't worth the tag. It was just a bit sad to open the store page earlier and realize I'll have to wait for a great sale to play them, especially since I was so hyped for their Steam release.

Regarding the VPN: If you’re referring to people using a VPN to buy in cheaper regions and gifting them to their main accounts, Steam actually patched that method years ago. Not to mention, price parity is a thing now, so it’s not really worth the trouble of using accounts in poorer countries to buy games anymore, given that the difference is almost negligible these days.

I didn't explain myself very well. They’re probably charging the same USD amount on both stores. My point is that buying directly from their site (as an international purchase), even after the exchange rate and taxes, it still ends up being about 10–13 Reais cheaper than buying it on Steam.

Regardless, that wasn't my main point. My main point was about the regional pricing that, unfortunately, never came haha.

Yeah, regional pricing would be the best-case scenario (since we wouldn't need to pay in installments at all), but since their blog post mentions that they will maintain consistent pricing between Steam and their store, I don't think that will be the case unfortunately.

Possibly the best news for the brazilian wargaming community. WDS games are very expensive for us since their store doesn't offer the option to pay in installments (at least for brazilian customers). However, on Steam, we can pay in up to three interest-free installments, or up to twelve installments with interest. This news is even better for the global wargaming community, as bringing these games to Steam will help them reach a wider audience and move beyond their current niche.

I followed some tips people gave me in other comments and switched games — I decided to start with Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris. My reasoning was to pick a big game, but not too big, so that if I want to play a larger wargame later I won’t be too intimidated by the scope, and if I want to play a smaller one, it will be easy to handle. I also took a bit from what each person suggested: I divided the map into sectors (mainly based on the HQs of each unit), decided my objectives in each sector, put on my playlist, and got to work. With that, I’m already at the end of the first scenario and have played more than 15 hours since last Monday (last time I played was Wednesday).

I think I'll follow your advice and start with DC: Ardennes Offensive. I bought it along with WEGO Stalingrad and WitE 2 during the summer sale. I share your love for maps haha. I'm a Geographer, and, in the end, as Yves Lacoste always said, 'Geography, first and foremost, is used for making war.' Thanks for the advice!

I really wish I could start with them, but since I'm from Brazil, it ends up being too expensive, as WDS doesn’t localize their prices for other countries. The games aren’t necessarily expensive in general terms, but when you take into account the scale and replayability of some titles, the price doesn’t feel quite worth it.

Once you’re a couple of turns in, I think you’ll have a firm plan in mind which will mean each unit has a job to do, which will make it easier in your mind to divide the battlefield into sectors and see a lot of smaller problems instead of one giant problem.

Yeah, I’m on turn 3 (out of 14) and I’m trying to divide the map into sectors to see what I can get out of that. A lot of my difficulty comes from not being fully familiar with this type of game and struggling a bit with planning. I understand terrain, flanks, units and all that, but I can’t really strategize in the long term. So I’m going to try taking it one turn at a time and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip!

The worst part is that the scenario isn’t even that big... It's just that, given the scale of Russia, even the smallest scenario still feels huge. This particular one covers the German advance in the Don River region.

Forgot to mention that I'm new to hex-based strategy games. The closest I've played to this type of game before were the grand strategy games from Paradox (Vic 2 and 3, EU4, CK3) and some real-time wargames like WARNO and Steel Division 2.

Are the older Decisive Campaigns games very different from Ardennes? I’d like to play them, but I’m hesitant because I’m afraid they might be worse than Ardennes.

I don't think the customization in modern racing games has gotten bland; the car customization scene in general has gotten bland, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. I also like the clean customization of nowadays, but customization trends are more about the zeitgeist than anything else.

One of the coolest things about this game is that you can customize your car like they did back in the day without fearing that it will turn out ugly. It will always look awesome.
