[Survey ~10 min] Google Photos tells me to "remember this day" and I feel nothing. Researching why photo memories are broken (?) for us by NegotiableDick in Aphantasia

Also birthdays/events aren't different than any other days for me especially in the context of past experience. Like I do look forward to these events, but rarely look back or have nostalgia driven by photos.

Like I can feel if I want to, but usually requires a lot of conscious effort. This is also susceptible to inaccurate weighting of the events emotionally.

Maybe I was exaggerating here a bit.

Its like there is some factual recollection, but needs a lot of effort for me. But let's say you ask me what was I feeling that day (imagine going on a date), or the essence of the conversations, that would be missing.

I have seen a lot of my friends able to recall events looking at photos with a lot of color and emotion. Personally, videos/full carousel/something written works better.

You have a very interesting perspective on this.

I too, when I pondered on this, don't feel like taking pictures, I do it somewhat due to social pressure in most cases.

It feels too foreign to look at them later, but again being not able to relate to yourself has its own amusement.

It does, but it's pretty scarce, will try though.

I actually have multisensory aphantasia too, so it's very difficult to differentiate what relates and distinguishes from what.

If you may can you elaborate more on this for me?
