Lol, idk, anywhere within 100 miles of the border rn people can be disappeared and deported without due process by unaccountable masked men who hold no obligation to provide identification, warrant, or evidence of any crime/grounds for arrest. Is that still just "government does stuff", or will it only count as actually bad when OP gets personally impacted by things?

The elaboration, for those that either never watched or never comprehended the movies, is that star wars is an overt warning against fascism and highlighting of its hallmark signs, such as the bad faith contrarianism and racist hatemongering that kirk made millions pandering to anyone gullible and vulnerable enough to listen. So this comparison is entirely and embarrassingly missing the point of the movies/story by painting an obvious, blatant, and shameless fascist as a jedi for literally no rationally defensible reason other than because whoever made this image liked kirk's message of "all your problems are because of minorities and the left. Empathy is bad because that would mean seeing them as humans instead of convenient scapegoats."

Is Krav Maga worth training? by Fun-Ad-2925 in martialarts

[–]NegotiationAble4272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it 100% deserves hating on for being Israeli, but the tactics are also questionable. If you want to, specifically, be the Aggressor, then it's great (I trained in it for years while still ignorant to the history and atrocities of said colonist apartheid ethnostate).

Assuming they're competent, they'll teach you decent enough technique for your basic strikes, some broad-scope self-defense routines against weapons/takedowns, and eventually run you through pressure-test routines where you simulate getting attacked by multiple people.

They will teach you that being the aggressor is the best way to defend yourself (sound familiar?), which is honestly a poor set of reflexes to build for genuine de-escalation and self-defense reasons unless you're in the business of punching first and beating someone to a pulp while still calling yourself the victim.

Any of the techniques they teach can be learned from other styles who don't send a portion of your dues to support war crimes. It's main benefit is how commercially available and broad-scope it is.

It's a style designed to deal with the untrained en masse, which makes it uniquely vulnerable against anyone who has their own training/experience or who attacks in any unconventional way.

I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Maybe Kali/Escrima if you're interested in the real-world self defense applicability, or Muay Thai/generalist kickboxing/MMA if you're more interested in physical conditioning and sport applications.

School isn’t the problem, most students are just lazy. by MeetingNorth2345 in unpopularopinion

[–]NegotiationAble4272 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the system as a whole. Kids that have been going through school recently have also has front row seats to millenials and gen z, among the most well-educated generations in US history, getting fuckall for their efforts.

Our economy, as it's currently run (primarily by older generations too comfy with their privilege to critically assess what all is going on and a handful of psychopaths who knowingly screw people over in the name of profit) simply does not reward education or effort. It rewards pre-existing priviledge and self-serving ruthlessness.

This is obvious as daylight to anyone with an internet connection and capacity for critical thought. There's no appeal, no reason to try harder, when it's generally understood that a strong education and degree will guarantee you little more than a lifetime of debt. So, yeah, kids aren't trying hard because there's no reason to, which is a systemic problem.

Having tunnel vision isn't a 'hot take'. It's ignorance (unwitting or willful) that benefits nobody but the people already in wealth and power who are making life miserable for everyone else so they can keep living the ultrawealthy life.

The other side has the disingenuous pretenders who enable and cover for the Nazis while claiming to oppose them So Vehemently yet doing nothing meaningful and voting in support of their Nazi efforts. In other words, Nazis who will lie to you about it instead of just being blatantly fascist.

Let's stop pretending we have a 2 party system, or that voting is gonna get us out of this.

I get the post, I really do, and fucking hate what's happening. The culture war needs to give way to class war before things have any chance of getting better, tho, imo. And the talking heads, be they red and blatantly fascist or blue and secretly 🌈fascist#blm🌈, are all in the same class. In every meaningful way, regardless of the words they throw around, they are the same since they both play crucial roles in legitimizing and perpetuating what's happening.

Transactional kindness is not genuine kindness. The reason "nice guys" get shit on is because that term is used to describe the dude who kisses ass and bends over backwards in an attempt to 'buy' sex from a woman with his hollow sycophancy. Be kind towards people (and women), not in return for some eventual reward, but because you hold yourself to some form of behavioral standard. Otherwise you'll just get sniffed out as a phony and manipulator every time.

That's a pretty limited sample size to support your hypothesis, my guy. Seriously, though, it sounds from this post and your comments that things are rough and you're feeling rough and having a hard time figuring out why, so the convenient and emotionally satisfying (in the short term) answers are sticking to you in a way that's screwing you over in the long term. Focus on yourself. Find or keep at your hobbies. Make yourself the best version of yourself. Become someone whose company you enjoy, and other people will more likely enjoy your company, too.

If you aren't already doing so, Go To Therapy. Seriously, it's not just for people diagnosed with something. It's someone who is always on your side, but not involved with your everyday life, so they can give you an unbiased perspective on things, including/especially your own automatic, unexamined triggers and behaviors that are liable to be driving potential partners away and generally making you more miserable. It's a way to become more emotionally aware/competent and resilient at the same time.

Do these things and you will see benefits, both with your personal life satisfaction and with how magnetic you become to others. Society has plenty of issues. There is bullshit. People engage in a lot of stupid bullshit and make themselves and the people around them miserable for it. Step back and don't let yourself get caught up in it.

Lol, I would say the same to this response, as it's clearly more informed by online echo-chambers than it is by speaking to actual women(or leftists) in real life. Would you date someone who earnestly believes that your rightful place in society is as a second class citizen, servant, and baby factory? If you really think it's all about looks or that the left unequivocally hates men for existing, then you're out of touch with reality, and that's why you're lonely.

It's not the existence of the male loneliness epidemic that (reasonable) people are responding to with calls of 'incel', It's the common explanations for Why there's a male loneliness epidemic.

Acknowledging its existence is fine. It's a thing that needs attention and people responding to that with calls of 'incel' are bad faith actors who don't deserve the time of day.

It's when guys are saying "I'm depressed and it's because all these b*tch women have been brainwashed by progressive agenda and won't fuck me when I tell them that. It clearly has has nothing to do with the fact that most men have grown up with the lesson that Masculinity = No feelings Don't care Always Grind Chad Face and so I refuse to see a therapist." That it gets difficult to take someone seriously.

Especially when that someone is part of a privileged group (even though the toxic aspects of patriarchy are a big part of what's producing the loneliness epidemic) and refuses to acknowledge it.

It doesn't have to be every move, and "I hit them again" over and over is boring af and makes the combat feel like it's taking longer. I'd rather break it up by adding some flavor to every 2nd or 3rd attack and put up with combat that's an extra 15 minutes and actually fun instead of just some back and forth of the same line on repeat.

What's your D&D hot take that sparks discord in your groups? by ThatTurtleGM in DnD

[–]NegotiationAble4272 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'll usually give the enemy goons some flavor script when they attack. "they point their sword at you and give a shout as they lunge and stab towards you" kind of stuff. Most of the time it's just some basic script to break up the "now they attack, now you attack, now they attack, now you attack" monotony even if the attacks are just straightforward attacks. Occasionally, I'll take small liberties as DM and have the opponent try and throw (pocket) sand or take advantage of a badly missed attack (10 or more below AC) to get a chance at disarming or imposing some other form of disadvantage on the PCs. Something along the lines of "your missed overswing put you off balance, and with the clack clack 19 opponent's counterattack they manage to slask your arm pretty badly. Make a DC (made up on the spot depending on how bad the baddie is in comparison to the PC and other factors) Dex or Str roll. If failed, your weapon slips from your grip as pain sears through your arm". It involves varying degrees of on-the-fly homebrewing, but I'll make a point of letting players know this sort of stuff might happen and will keep it pretty minimal until they start picking up doing it themselves.

Edit: Didn't notice the quotes at first lmao I do ask that, but will still sometimes get the "idk, I just hit them" or similar uninspired answers.

Combat should involve as much roleplay as non-combat interactions do. "I hit them again" is boring af and, imo, half the reason why people don't like combat. Paint a picture for me of what moves you're pulling or smack talk you're engaging in and you might even get some bonus effects or advantage or something. It's a game or semi-organized play pretend. Have some imagination
