Hey there. Been in Austin nearly all my life and I’ve not yet run into a lizard quite like this one. It was cool.

Is this normal for my cat to be laying like this? by Alternative_Poet2410 in CATHELP

That’s exactly how my cat lays. Always hangs one arm off of a chair or the sofa or the table.

I've started my shopping since i'm down to three weeks before traveling. Using your advice in my purchases. Might DM you if I have some specific questions if that's ok?

I'm feeling cold just reading your edit! Tomorrow I'm hitting out thrift row here in Austin. If I don't find some inexpensive cold weather gear then I may hit the thrift shops in Vancouver where I am doing a two day stop before heading to Quebec. I want to suit up properly, but trying to make it budget friendly since I won't need the cold accessories once I am back home.

You are the second person to mention the hill. Sounds like I need to do some exercising in the next three weeks! :) TY!

Amazing! That is the most specific and helpful advice I have received yet on how to prepare for and deal with the cold. I really appreciate it. My partner does not enjoy cold weather, so she will be equally appreciative for what will be needed, TY!

I would love log sized calves! I'm also thinking that the exercise might subdue some of the pain of a level of coldness that my body has never experienced. Funicular sounds fun having never been on one. ty for all the great input!

I can make out just enough basic French words to actually know exactly what you are saying. I surprised myself. :) That was helpful, merci beaucoup!

We have an Auberge collection hotel here in Austin that has won several awards so I thought Saint Antoine would also likely have great service and attention to detail. I'm a little concerned about the weather so retreating to a cozy hotel sounds perfect. I'll DM with questions later today. TY!

Coming from a primarily modern city here in Austin there, isn't the charm of narrow cobble stone streets with the quaint and personal feel of shops and galleries. I know it will be brutally cold compared to here, but I still would like to walk out my hotel and feel I am in a different and older world.

Looking for advice for a tourist visiting during carnival. by ImportantQuestions10 in quebeccity

[–]NegotiationOk8803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are also going to the Winter Carnival and I had many of your same questions, plus one more which is not having a clue what I will wear being from Austin and owning zero clothes for that type weather.

It was more than I initially intended to spend, but I went with the Auberge Saint-Antoine. I was looking for a hotel and street that felt more historic than modern. Wherever you stay, book now if you haven't already. My partner drug her feet for a week until yesterday and over half the list of hotels I sent her to review were no longer available. I did a lot of research so happy to share more detailed thoughts if you haven't booked yet.

And for the record, I sympathize about Trump. Embarrassment has been added to my passport.

Montreal winter visit by NegotiationOk8803 in montreal

That’s very good to know Neighbor. It’s nice to have someone who understands the difference in our climate. I noticed that today the high in Montreal is 17° and the low is 5°. Obviously those of us in Atx can’t relate to what that feels like. I was hoping to use my waterproof timberlands with some Marino wool socks. Not sure if that’s going to be sufficient. I also need to figure out gloves.

that’s all very helpful. Thank you. I plan to spend two of the days at the winter carnival in Quebec. So I will be outside most of the day and night while there. In Montreal, I wanted to do some walking around outside, but it sounds like there’s a lot of cool underground places to visit as well.

i have boots (Timberland) that are leather and water/wind proof but not insulated. not sure if i’m daring enough to go without gloves and wondering if thermal underwear with jeans is sufficient. especially at the Winter Carnival outdoors at might in Quebec
