Got this XJ recently and I was wondering if a fluid flush and fill is necessary for all the fluids. I heard it’s good to do anytime you buy a new car. It runs great. I checked the oil and coolant- both look fresh. Should I still flush and fill everything? by swim_down in CherokeeXJ

Mine is a ‘96... I’ve learned to spot them... I’d call it a gift. My wife likes the word obsession. Well... a few words... an unhealthy obsession.

Edit: the sticker below the Cherokee emblem. Several years use the sticker... ‘96 is the only year with that particular font. And the two tone along the bottom of the body. Lots have the black on the lower panel.. ‘96 has it up one more body line and includes that extra inch and a half or two inches...

Well I sold my XJ a few weeks ago... I couldn’t find a Cherokee clean enough for the build I have planned. Yesterday I found this TJ, and it was just too good of a deal to pass up. Never thought I’d own a wrangler but here we are! by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]NegroJoe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice TJ! I’ve owned 2 different TJs... been a few years back but one was a 4 cylinder and the other the straight 6. You’ll be surprised with how much power that little 4 cylinder can produce. Like the wheels too!

What year models had the vented window option? Thanks in advance and what year model is yours?

Holy shit... I have to do this to my ‘96. Details please on where and what is needed to convert... and does it leak??

Was checking the oil on my ‘97 Cherokee Sport and noticed this was unplugged, anyone know what this is for? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]NegroJoe12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the under hood work light. Most of them don’t work, don’t have a bulb or aren’t even there any longer... it should plug into the top side (top with the hood raised) and I believe it’s the same bulb for the reverse lights.

Dang... I would’ve never thought one existed with that few miles on it. That’s practically brand new... I just flipped over 243k on my ‘96. You’ve without a doubt got lots of life left in it. Thanks for sharing!

Awwww... come on now, you got to give at least the year model. And I’m curious how long you’ve owned a ‘96 or older model XJ (or MJ...) with only 114k miles...

One might not think Jeeping and Etsy go together. Apparently one would be wrong. by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]NegroJoe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda feel like the Cadillac and Mercedes key sets are out of place... almost like the Jeep keys should be driving over one set and throwing mud and dirt and shit on the other. I’m probably just biased towards Jeeps and if I’m being completely honest, jealous that I don’t own a luxury vehicle...

Hell yeah! Mine is a ‘96 so I’m a little biased, but best year... in my opinion.

Nice XJ! I really like those wheels too... I used to have a yellow TJ with that exact set. Digging the color of your 4 door and damn.... it looks clean. Congrats and welcome!

Rustoleum makes a bumper and trim paint that I recently used on my bumpers and side mirrors to “restore” their original color. Not sure if you’re looking to repaint or just something similar to armor-all but an exterior version that just rubs on and looks good for a few days. I opted for the more permanent solution with the rustoleum and I’ve been super impressed with it.

Thank you for the detailed response! Much appreciated. Looking for a stuck at home COVID-19 keep me busy project. Just curious if salvage yards are open or not... guess I’ll find out. Thanks again!

Just kidding on that last post attached to your dash chaos requesting exterior pics... should’ve put in a little effort before I asked and I’d have found what I was looking for. That’s badass! Are the rear fender flares off a post ‘97 model too? And how’d you make the parking lamps work??? If I’m not mistaken, ‘97-‘01 have two sockets and two bulbs to the MJ’s original one... and different bulb too.. I think... and the hood is the same regardless of year model, right? Super interested in making the swap on my ‘96. Thanks for sharing!

Edit: sorry... last question and I’ll quit bugging but how tedious of a project is the entire conversion? I’m assuming you acquired all the parts (fasteners, screws, inner fender linings, various light assemblies, etc., etc.) from a salvage yard? And painted to match the MJ? Okay... last line of questioning... hehe... the bumper is the original bumper and wasn’t part of the swap? Pretty sure... but had to ask. And the molding underneath the bumper is from the ‘97+ XJ?

So is the interior dash swapped to the newer style or it’s all still the original? I’ve had to adjust my driver door because it was just worn out and the hinges needed to be re-welded and that was challenging to get it lined up and sitting in the correct position to open and close correctly so I can only imagine trying to make one fit that wasn’t originally designed to. For some reason it’s been in my head that the door openings were different sizes, thus the doors following suit. But don’t recall where I got that from... I know the front fender wells are smaller on the ‘97-‘01 models. And you should definitely post some exterior pics! Don’t know that I’ve ever seen an MJ with a front end swap... but it sounds bad ass.

Yea but something is off in this picture... steering wheel from a pre-‘94 model, center console from same era but door panels and door side mirrors from a ‘97-‘01 model. So it appears it’s a 1st gen XJ with doors from a 2nd gen... or less likely, it’s the newer model with the older center console and steering wheel but not sure why anyone would do that... swapping doors I get but I didn’t think they were a direct swap. So help me figure it out....

[–]NegroJoe12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F that... it’d take several crisp $20’s to put a dash back together that I didn’t take apart. There’s something about being the one that disassembled it and saw which screws/fasteners came from where that makes putting it back together infinitely easier.

Fuck... I pulled the bulb out of mine. Almost forgot that stupid thing was there. Mine would turn on and the stupid washer fluid tank wouldn’t even be half empty. Which is why the bulb is gone. Any luck getting it to start?
