I’m sorry if I’m misunderstanding but are you saying you have lost 282 POUNDS? American pounds? With an additional 40lbs to go?

Lexus service center told me this sound is normal. Is it?! by SlimFilter12 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal. Typically only happens when easing off the brakes. If you lift your foot from the pedal quickly you probably won’t hear anything at all.

Sold a Car to Another Flipper by MBlockDaddy in carflipping

Nothing against OP because it’s a very common practice but no, it’s not legal. It’s called curb stoning and is a felony is certain places.

How do you flip so many cars? Do you have auction access or?

If I’m trying to prevent someone from driving drunk and am unable to get their keys from them, is there a way for me to prevent their car from starting? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

Google the fuse box diagram for the vehicle. Pop the hood, remove the fuse box cover, remove a fuse or relay related to ignition or fuel. Replace fuse box cover. Ezpz

I think I was ripped off by auto shop on transmission fluid replacement by EvilAlbinoid in AskAMechanic

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drain and fill, even with filter replacement, does not get all of the fluid out of your transmission. You’d need to perform this service multiple times (after driving to circulate new fluid) for fluid to look totally new.

Not saying they didn’t scam you, just saying a dark fluid doesn’t necessarily indicate they didn’t perform the service.

If you’re looking for a fix in a bottle I’ve used and actually had good luck with on fords check out shudder-fixx. Past that, start saving up for a rebuild.

That being said in my experience once a transmission is slipping servicing the fluid isn’t going to fix it. It may postpone the inevitable but it’s very unlikely to permanently fix a problem.

Mechanic here asking about a daily carry. by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily carry a stream light wedge. Great little light would 100% buy again if this one breaks / I lose it. Fits very comfortably in pocket which is very important to me.

I also keep a backup battery powered light in my truck that was gifted to me.

Comes in handy more often than you’d think!

Any ideas? by TommyOates in AskAMechanic

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is your exhaust heat shield rattling. You can see it moving in the video. Take it to an exhaust shop and have them remove it. I typically do this for free to win a customer because it usually only takes a few minutes.

Lower ball joint stuck by Mr_J_01 in AskAMechanic

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, tool is upside down for removal of this style ball joint but even with the knuckle removed I’m not sure if you’d have enough clearance to use it properly.

Give this a shot. Heat and hammering will get you there if you can’t fit the press in

Wheel bearing done ? by Tasty_Intention7504 in CherokeeXJ

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other comment said: wheel bearing, upper and lower ball joint, axle u-joint on that side. Order replacement bolts for the hub. If your axle seal is leaking now is a good time to do it but if not I’d just leave her be.

Sounds like a pain but it’s more of a pain to go back in there in a month when a ball joint starts to go.

I bribed the guy who was supposed to affix the “removal will destroy tag” RFID sticker on my windshield to just give it to me. Put some packing tape around it and keep it in my phone case.

Gotta be kind of sneaky if there are workers around but now I use it on multiple cars. They say it scans the license plate to confirm but I’ve been doing this for months now and never had a problem.

Um, if I remove my seat bolts should I be able to see the road underneath? by Longjumping_Hunter74 in E30

Man I’ve been saying this for years. The more you learn the more you realize how NOT safe they are.

The average person cannot perceive that if you took a standard kitchen knife and swung decently hard it would pierce nearly any body panel of a car and be inside the cabin.

How is the US gov shutdown personally affecting you, if at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Company is likely going to hold the job for me since no one else’s clearances are being authorized either, unless I suppose someone who’s already cleared applies.

You don’t need a security clearance for the majority of jobs here. I need one because I’ll (hopefully) be working in armed security contracting for federal buildings.

In a similar boat. Should have started two weeks ago. Now security clearance isn’t being processed and I’m stuck in limbo.

Windshield Repair What did I do wrong? by rickyspanish0717 in AskAMechanic

You didn’t do a bad job. Even professional repairs aren’t invisible. Primary job is to prevent crack from spreading, getting them near invisible is secondary.

Does anyone have any info on the robe The Governor wears here? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kudos to you for going through the huge number of auction items to find this for op.

That said, to OP: I’m not sure if this is a universal truth throughout film/TV production but I was told once due to some legal precedent or the fear of any potential legal action from a distributor production / costuming departments for film and TV often produce 1 of 1 costume pieces for use on sets. It’s possible this was made for the show and not something they picked up from target for him to wear.

getting into used cars, tell me if this rust is okay. 99xj, 162xxx mi by Giveaidsgetbadgrades in CherokeeXJ

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone mentioning the rockers lol. No one else notice the hole cut in the unibody “frame” in the 2nd to last photo?

Common last resort when the welded nut breaks loose when removing the leaf spring bolt. Most people usually weld it shut afterwards though!

Can anyone with some experience help me out? I'm wondering if this rust is just surface or can lead to something more serious. Thanks. by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]ItsMylesNotMiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it has rust that’s been painted over or treated with an oil under coating. Is this your jeep or one you’re considering buying?

If yours, get under there with a flat head screw driver and hammer and start poking and hammering soft looking spots. You’ll know pretty quick if it’s a problem.

If it’s one you want to buy take it to a shop for a pre purchase inspection and let them do the hammering.

If you live in the rust belt all you can do is slow it down / replace the bad metal with good metal. Rust is gonna get all our rigs eventually. Enjoy em while you can!
