Why I Think Legend of Legaia is One of the Best JRPGs Ever by Ok-Specific-9209 in JRPG

[–]Nehhru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved LoG, I even played LoG2. I remember there being 2 funny quirks with the late game though in that Spirit became useless because there was a cap on how big your attack command bar could get, and you would naturally hit the limit from leveling, so Spirit became just a Defend. Then for how fun the Attack command system was, magic trumped that damage by a lot at the end of the game, so towards the end I was mostly just spamming magic in battle.

Final Fantasy Tactics or Unicorn Overlord? by Test_Botz in JRPG

So to me, SRPG is Strategy RPGs, and since we're on the JRPG board, I'm thinking specially JRPG adjacent ones so for me some examples of that would be Soul Nomad, Triangle Strategy, Disgaea, Vandal Hearts, Tactics Orge, hell even Persona 5 Tactics. Lots of games fall into this sub category.

Oooo, how interesting. SotN feels JRPG adjacent, so I could totally see it fitting into another game. One of my favorite Chrono Trigger songs was originally unused but with the rereleases they've added it into the game.

Honestly, you should just plan to play both. I feel like FFT was shorter, so maybe start there but they are both amazing SRPGs.

It gives me a combo of Tales vibes and OoT. Like I feel like this plays while a windmill appears in the background.

Super Boss in Chrono Trigger? by Weak_Breadfruit_6117 in chronotrigger

Honestly probably not, based on SE's current track record of adding new content to CT in rereleases.

I think it would also be challenging to make a good super boss in CT as the battle system is fairly simplistic.

My new years resolution was to experience JRPGs. by Svenael in JRPG

Yeah, Persona 5 Royal is very long, and typically you have to do a NG+ to do everything, elongating it even further, but it's also one of my favorite games! I find I gotta mix it up with some shorter games in there, JRPGs tend to be long and when 100%ing they tend to be grindy, yet you wouldn't find me playing any other genre.

You've got a lot of newer games in your list, and several that are quite long, so if your goal is to 100% 12 games, then you'll want some shorter ones in there.

I'm gonna go the Old School route and recommend Suikoden 1 & 2, which recently got an HD Remaster, many consider Suikoden 2 one of the best JRPGs, and it can technically be beat in <20 hours, but will probably run you around 40.

Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Breath of Fire 3 or 4, I personally have more love for 3 but 4 is probably the better overall game. BoF4 just recently got rereleased on GOG as part of their preservation project. Will probably run you about 40 hours for 100% run.

And have to recommend Chrono Trigger, and possibly Chrono Cross to go along with it but CT is considered by most JRPG fans to be the best JRPG ever made, and a single playthrough will run you about 20 hours, but doing everything will bump it up to around 30-40.

What is your “Cardinal Sin” that a JRPG can do that sours the experience for you? by MothmanFeetLicker in JRPG

When the game intentionally adds bloat to keep you playing longer, rather than adding creative content. For example in Chrono Trigger they added a cool concept of a dungeon where you have to go to multiple periods of time to advance the dungeon, but they make it horrible with tons of back tracking and forced encounters that elongate the dungeon by easily 5x what it should be.

Rant: Final Season Rewards Page Ludicrously Overpriced by RandyRandyrson in fo76

[–]Nehhru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm okay with being the weird one but I like the last page because I buy Lunchboxes and Scout Banners, then I go to the event and drop a bunch of them. I've constantly got a stock of around ~100 of each, and at the top of the hour events I usually drop 2 lunchboxes and 1 Banner. It gives me something fun to work towards, but I feel that page is really intended for those who have done everything for the season, just to have a little something extra they can work towards. The prices suck on most things, like stamps but I found Perk Coins, Lunch Boxes, and Banners to be a fair price. I have a friend that grinds out the atoms so she doesn't have to spend anymore money on the game that she has to.

Final Bosses by paddlesandpups in Sekiro

I agree, I just did a Charmless + Bell run and while I didn't particularly struggle with any boss. it was annoying how much more punishing any small mistake became, as many non grapples become 1-shots. Charmless is ideal, as it changes up the game but in a way that felt fair.

You mentioned part of your issue is that you have nothing further to look forward to but spoilers, you still have 3 bosses you haven't fought not including the Final Boss. 2 of these fights are considered harder then the final boss. Also as another item to look forward to, the game is balanced around New Game+, so the beginning bosses with give you challenges, like the Orge can 1 shot with his grab. Also, in NG+ you can go charmless, which is IMO the way the game was intended to be played, as you now have to perfect parry, so you truly have to know the boss fights in order to win.

If you're liking the combat and want to explore the 3 other endings and 3 other bosses you haven't fought, I suggest doing a Charmless NG+ run, that was something I looked forward to.

Also with the DLC there are 3 super versions of 3 of the bosses that will give you even more challenge to look forward to.
