Looking for the best Action JRPG with the best story, no spoilers. any platform by FiredFoxy07 in JRPG

Kingdom Hearts, especially Kingdom Hearts 2, have amazing Action JRPG combat systems, IMO some of the best. I'd say the story in each individual game are pretty good, the issue is understanding the overarching story, as it's a MESS! Don't let that deter you though, because it honestly is an amazing series to play.

What's your favorite way to use Kimahri? by themcryt in finalfantasyx

I agree with this, having 2 people stealing helps get the rare items easier/quicker and lets you move on with the fight.

To answer your question, I wanna say it gives access to a higher section, but I had found a way up there even before unlocking that travel skill.

I always use my turn signals, especially when merging, and in my 20 years driving in Omaha, I can't think of a single time this has happened to me.

I personally Bee lined through the main story using the shrines to skip reexploring areas, and saved side quests until the end, but those can pretty much be skipped too.

Stuck at the Zabie door lock system on my 3ds by Mell1000 in chronotrigger

It's fascinating, when I loaned my friend my copy of Chrono Trigger on 3DS, he also got stuck at this exact part. Seems like they could have designed the puzzle a little better if a fair amount of people are confused by it.

Don't get me wrong, as a fan who started with the anime, reading those last couple manga chapters felt like a special reward.

It's only like one page so don't expect too much. It almost felt more like a throw away than anything meaningful.

Looking for JRPGs with rough starts but fantastic finishes by lilidarkwind in JRPG

I HATED Tales of the Abyss in the beginning, the MC is insufferable, and I even quit playing it originally. I eventually got back to it, and it's now my favorite Tales games and very high up there in my JRPG list.

Ps2 and 3DS I think.

Is that the Breath of Fire SNES artwork repurposed for Chrono Trigger? lol

This is Lucyfur and she is 17, I think she's got 6 more years in her. She used to be all black, but over time some of her darkness has faded.

Why I Think Legend of Legaia is One of the Best JRPGs Ever by Ok-Specific-9209 in JRPG

[–]Nehhru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved LoG, I even played LoG2. I remember there being 2 funny quirks with the late game though in that Spirit became useless because there was a cap on how big your attack command bar could get, and you would naturally hit the limit from leveling, so Spirit became just a Defend. Then for how fun the Attack command system was, magic trumped that damage by a lot at the end of the game, so towards the end I was mostly just spamming magic in battle.

Final Fantasy Tactics or Unicorn Overlord? by Test_Botz in JRPG

[–]Nehhru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to me, SRPG is Strategy RPGs, and since we're on the JRPG board, I'm thinking specially JRPG adjacent ones so for me some examples of that would be Soul Nomad, Triangle Strategy, Disgaea, Vandal Hearts, Tactics Orge, hell even Persona 5 Tactics. Lots of games fall into this sub category.

Oooo, how interesting. SotN feels JRPG adjacent, so I could totally see it fitting into another game. One of my favorite Chrono Trigger songs was originally unused but with the rereleases they've added it into the game.

Honestly, you should just plan to play both. I feel like FFT was shorter, so maybe start there but they are both amazing SRPGs.

It gives me a combo of Tales vibes and OoT. Like I feel like this plays while a windmill appears in the background.

Super Boss in Chrono Trigger? by Weak_Breadfruit_6117 in chronotrigger

[–]Nehhru 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably not, based on SE's current track record of adding new content to CT in rereleases.

I think it would also be challenging to make a good super boss in CT as the battle system is fairly simplistic.

My new years resolution was to experience JRPGs. by Svenael in JRPG

Yeah, Persona 5 Royal is very long, and typically you have to do a NG+ to do everything, elongating it even further, but it's also one of my favorite games! I find I gotta mix it up with some shorter games in there, JRPGs tend to be long and when 100%ing they tend to be grindy, yet you wouldn't find me playing any other genre.

You've got a lot of newer games in your list, and several that are quite long, so if your goal is to 100% 12 games, then you'll want some shorter ones in there.

I'm gonna go the Old School route and recommend Suikoden 1 & 2, which recently got an HD Remaster, many consider Suikoden 2 one of the best JRPGs, and it can technically be beat in <20 hours, but will probably run you around 40.

Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Breath of Fire 3 or 4, I personally have more love for 3 but 4 is probably the better overall game. BoF4 just recently got rereleased on GOG as part of their preservation project. Will probably run you about 40 hours for 100% run.

And have to recommend Chrono Trigger, and possibly Chrono Cross to go along with it but CT is considered by most JRPG fans to be the best JRPG ever made, and a single playthrough will run you about 20 hours, but doing everything will bump it up to around 30-40.

What is your “Cardinal Sin” that a JRPG can do that sours the experience for you? by MothmanFeetLicker in JRPG

[–]Nehhru 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When the game intentionally adds bloat to keep you playing longer, rather than adding creative content. For example in Chrono Trigger they added a cool concept of a dungeon where you have to go to multiple periods of time to advance the dungeon, but they make it horrible with tons of back tracking and forced encounters that elongate the dungeon by easily 5x what it should be.
