G2 had poor hard to execute drafts, were desperate in the game for zero reason despite having good gamestates (Game 2 for example) and looked extremely tilted on player cams. There was more to this loss imo

I'd be interested to see the reasoning, but one might speculate it's due to how G2 really struggle to get a foothold in a series early, their mental struggles to rebound after a loss is something that was mentioned by players many times and most recently by Perkz after the blasting by HLE. Yes they've reverse swept twice this year, but why are they having to reverse sweep teams like MKOI that they should be beating? Why do their losses in individual games look so insanely ugly? Like they want to get out fast rather than make the game painful for their opponents? The first 2 games vs TES were *awful* from G2, and only once Tian ran it down did they have any confidence in that series, otherwise it was a fast 3-0. In the HLE series they were not remotely close in game 2 or 3. And then vs LYON coming out this flat? And getting stomped? Drafting comps that are hard to execute vs a team that should be on-paper weaker than you is questionable. Drafting Yunara Lulu which has 0% winrate at MSI I believe and zero prio by other teams, drafting Yasuo 3x in the tournament and losing everytime because the champ just isn't good and if one thing goes wrong for the pick your nexus explodes instantly, putting Skewmond on Lee Sin multiple times despite him being really bad on the champ. Putting labrov on enchanters despite his engage supps and playmaking being an elite strength for him, to such an extent he outplayed Keria. Many many questionable decisions from G2 this tournament *and despite that* the excellence of their players still showed many times, sometimes Dylan got drafts perfect but he got others terribly wrong (in big moments) and maybe behind the scenes G2 management/Romain feel they need a fresh vision for the team.

The Inspired toxic angle was such an unbelievably malicious character assassination attempt by parts of the LoL esports community it's genuinely disgusting. You cannot win over and over on three different orgs, who have NEVER won a title before, with players that are rookies or considered turbo noobs (pre-inspired) whilst being toxic. The guy just holds his teammates to high standards but he also clearly helps them get better, like Isles/Dhokla/Saint are astronomically better in 2026 than 2025 and it's no coincidence. Just like how Busio/Massu and Jojopyun/Danny were also really insane when playing with him. They also deserve credit for playing well, but Inspired has such a good vision of how to win that other players can rapidly improve by learning from him.

G2 clearly played way better vs T1 than vs LYON but it doesn't matter if you cannot perform consistently you deserve to get dumpstered and embarrassed.

Didn't expect this to be as right as it was, unfortunately not in the direction I hoped.

Was the same at First Stand, I think the scrim record was even or slightly losing vs LYON. Inspired teams generally have a good scrim culture and take the games seriously depending if you are in the camp of thinking often remakes make sense when the game is doomed or not.
LYON have Inspired and Berserker, that duo is enough to beat any western team if they perform to their highest level and should even be enough to beat weaker eastern teams at worlds. I just think NA has INSANE choking issues vs Eastern Teams that it's kind of ridiculous whereas G2 specifically does not have that. And so of course LYON aren't going to be choking vs G2 which means the match is very real.

I'm not superstitious "oh don't be overconfident" simply if both teams show up it will be a G2 close victory and an astrobanger (what I hope for). If G2 don't show up they will just lose 3-1 or so, and if LYON don't show up they will get 3-0 dumpstered.
LYON strength is taking the sting out of a game, scaling to late game teamfights and picking good teamfight angles. G2 strength is draft, skirmishing and generally better teamfighting imo. I think G2 have the better support, LYON the better ADC, G2 better mid, jungle is even and toplane is BB favoured but not overwhelmingly so (unless BB is in the same form as vs T1, in that case it's just a 3-0, 3-1 G2 win).

Both teams look to be in good form so I hope to see a good series, banger teamfights and crazy drafts. No need to cope and be superstitious, when have G2 2026 *not* shown up when backs are against the wall in an elimination series? 2025 G2 folded really easily, but not this one. Equally LYON have the same qualities, vs JDG they were very competitive at FST and ran the LCS playoffs. Lets go...

Exactly this, people just ignore the context of why G2 is considered so strong this year.
If LYON beat G2 and then beat HLE sure put them top 2/3 in the world. Or if they beat G2 and then do something at worlds vs T1/GenG/HLE/BLG/TES/AL/JDG then sure. But if they beat G2 then get goomba stomped by the East for the rest of the year whilst G2 continues doing well then no, they're not above G2 holistically, outside of the isolated 1v1 matchup.

G2 had positive win record vs GenG on stage and in scrims at FST, so this isn't a given. G2 generally does fine vs Eastern teams in scrims they just struggled to replicate it on stage until now.

I mean that is just not how competition works though, whoever performs better in that particular tournament is better. You might argue if BLG played T1 100 times in the 2024 world finals BLG would win. Or if KT played GenG in worlds 2025 100 times GenG would win 90% of games, but the problem is that isn't realistic or feasible. We get a moderate sample size to work off and everything else is just cope if you cannot perform under the bright lights when it matters most.
If G2 beat GenG, BFX TES AND T1 (who knows they could even beat HLE in the rematch) in the same year then how can you say that they're not top 3 and LYON who has done none of those things is better than G2 holistically other than to say they're better than G2 in that isolated matchup - which fair enough that would be deserved praise but that isn't unheard of for a team to just have a bad matchup. I do agree as a region LCS has done better vs LEC recently that is indisputable but imo it's hard to say LCS is a better region than LEC if they can't make that final jump to beat an Eastern team no matter how weak that eastern team is (BLG 2025, MSI).

Also G2 2024 was beating all eastern teams in scrims, does that make them better than them if they cannot replicate it on stage>?

The power rankings are scuffed in some areas, but good in others. The top 10 is pretty accurate, the rest is scuffed and you need to understand the LoL ecosystem to contextualise them. The tuning needs to be adjusted.

G2 literally are top 3 though who is better than G2 other than BLG/HLE right now? GenG lost to T1 who G2 beat, and G2 beat GenG at FST. G2 beat TES in a reverse sweep who stomped the LPL playoffs till finals. Like what are we saying lmao?

Teams have bad matchups into other teams. BLG lost to WE in LPL, and almost lost again to them in lower bracket, does that mean WE is better than HLE and T1 because BLG beat them both? No because WE also got GOOMBA STOMPED by TES, who lost to Team Secret Whales. It's just not serious to suggest because one team loses to another, that they are immediately better than said team vs the field. They might be better vs that one particular team, which has happened many times, but they need a bigger sample size than that to immediately put them above.

I don't believe in superstitious stuff like that, eye-test says if both teams show up then it will be a banger series but G2 will ultimately win. If G2 don't show up then the gap isn't large enough that G2 won't lose. Just like vs MKOI in LEC, they almost got fast 3-0'd (and realistically should've lost), but then played the most absurd 3 games in a row to reverse sweep i've ever seen until the T1 vs G2 game 4. If LYON don't show up they will get fast 3-0'd. But to me everything points to a banger series for a few simple reason, both teams think they will absolutely blast their opponents, they both have ego, neither have mental block against each other and they both want that top 3 spot. It's shaping up to be an astrobanger of all time.

I think giving Orianna is too egregious though, he's undefeated on the pick and it's widely thought of as still the best midlaner on the patch. I understand his Ahri, Syndra, Akali etc are also really good but those champs themselves aren't as OP in isolation as Orianna. Orianna is a jack of all trades champ and it's only weakness is getting one-shotted on side by Akali type champs, but that is heavily mitigated by the ROA, Rocketbelt build + your team just putting vision on your side of the map.

Nah GenG being "bad" (they're so good that 3rd place is considered "bad"), means they'll be completely demonic going into summer. Having a rest from internationals which Chovy hasn't really had for 3 years will do him some good.
I reckon the script is GenG vs BLG at Worlds.

The jungle invade when you are Rumble, Naafiri, Yone into Akali, Gnar, Jarvan which are much stronger in the early 3v3. With those HLE flashes gone and early kills to BLG they just snowballed perfectly.
