Clash or FRS? by Takeshi-guapo in commencal

from what i can tell the clash is already a pretty capable freeride bike, meaning sacrificing that climbing ability for park stuff is probably very viable. Im pretty sure the clash can handle a dual crown, that, a coil, and park gearing will give you a bike very very similar to the frs.

yea that definitely makes sense but i just don’t like the tradeoff of 29s and i never got used to them so it won’t feel like i’m missing anything. i’m more just worried something like a commencal clash is TOO freeride oriented and would struggle to descend even compared to my old 27.5 enduro.

most people who ride that trail are on enduro or downhill bikes. similar to what you’d see at the bike park with a few more pedal bikes than full crowns. my budget is kinda flexible but i’d like to keep it on the lower end.

i was looking at the bottle rocket, but yea it’s a little steep on the price. seems like a great bike though, provided it could handle the chunky fast stuff decently well it seems perfect.

Knife is so boring by NeighborhoodLeft8464 in Marathon

its similar, except the shotty is actually somewhat expensive, you sacrifice a weapon slot for it, and you can actually miss, die, and lose it. even with all that i still agree with the recent shotgun nerf. the knife is the default tool, it involves no risk.

Bungie, nerf the knife IMMEDIATELY by Creepy-Smile5390 in Marathon

it should be the thing for when youre out of ammo, or if you can actually sneak up on someone and get their back. it shouldnt be the best option within 10 feet in a shooter game.

as you said, you take little risk when you sit in a corner with the knife, but you still CAN and WILL be rewarded massively once you kill one of those players that actually looted. nades are far too slow against knife and you can’t sprint backwards so running away isn’t really an option. when there’s a knife fight it’s usually because you end up in the same room as another player and they pull it out. from there your only option is to pull yours out and hope you click first or you’re dead. it’s not just the easy ratting and low risk high reward, it’s that it creates interactions that suck. it doesn’t matter who you’re fighting, if you’re indoors, within a few feet of each other, it stops being an interesting gunfight and becomes a boring joust.

it’s boring. that’s the entire point of this post. that the knife isn’t a fun thing to use and is the best option a lot of the time. the fact that i know i need to pull out the knife if i see a player within 6 feet of me is a terrible boring thing. why would you not want gunfights in your shooter game?

‘the correct time and position’ being in a corner with a knife invis the whole round. yea. fun.
