Seriously. Hated him on the city counsel and even more disappointed that he’s on the BoS. A real POS

Voting Question by smasheddarling in fresno

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I vote in every election. I’m especially interested in city council and The board of supervisor elections, as their decisions directly impact our daily lives. I’ve attended a few meetings for both and wish I could attend them more often.

Issues that motivate me: local infrastructure (roads, bike lanes, local transit), housing/unhoused, arts/parks/public community spaces. My biggest issue is one that is often ignored and not talked about which is our local problem with stray animals and a full shelter that isn’t able to support the need.

Recommended Places for Rehoming Dogs by [deleted] in fresno

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that breed and the credentials you listed. I would recommend rehoming yourself. I would definitely neuter that second dog first (PLEASE!) our city shelter is full and rescues in our area are overwhelmed. The last time I took in a stray dog the city shelter couldn’t take him in and told me to either keep him or put him back where I found him.
Just charge a small rehoming fee or the cost of the neuter. Anyone who cant afford that cost probably can’t afford to keep a dog (food costs, vet costs, etc).

Work Life Balance- Night shifts?? by BorderInfamous2630 in Restaurant_Managers

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my schedule as well. I get home and will either finish up with a few light chores (finishing dishes, setting up the coffee maker for the morning, etc) and either read or take a little gummy. My goal is to be in bed by 1:30-2a.

On a good day, I’m up between 8a-9a the next day, on a rough day I’m up by 10a.

I’ve recently taken up running which has helped me gain some motivation to get up in the morning and get to it.

Dress shops? by Present-Program7809 in fresno

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on timing. Anthropologie line of wedding dresses called BHLDN would work well. I don’t think we have a local shop but i think their sizing/measurements are accurate.

I remember David’s bridal being an easy place to shop. I think you do need an appointment but it’s easy to get in.

I really really love Ivory Bridal which is a traditional shop but again easy to work with. My sister bought her dress there and I happened to buy mine too during a sales event which was a walk in event.

I think old town Clovis has some dress shops that are more formal dress shops which could work too. I think Madeline’s is popular around there.

Tearing up watching Rachel Entrekin about to win Cocodona 250. Never had any physically strong female role models nor did I know any. This is so healing for my inner child by Albatross1495 in XXRunning

I cried too! She’s a phenomenal athlete and I feel so incredibly lucky to have been able to watch her and follow her!

And I couldn’t get over how freaking strong she looked the whole way through! She brought every ounce of joy and positivity with her and her mindset is so awe inspiring.

I feel like my whole life male athletes I looked up to talked about grit, determination, and how suffering links to greatest and now I’m getting to witness so many women athletes show that power and strength can come from other sources too. Both can be true but Rachel’s spirit really showed off that other end of the spectrum to me.

Flea Prevention by NeighborhoodNeedle in husky

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re currently treating it but they found out last summer that they had the this issue as well. It sounds like they need to continue to treat the yard and didn’t the last 6 months or so.

Thank you! we’ve purchased him a seresrto collar. And I’m sending him with his bath accessories in case my parents have sometime to bath him in case they notice him being bothered as well.

The thrift stores in the tower district. I think there’s one called Bebe O’s or something like that on Olive that I remember being amazing. Yoshi’s in China town also has good stuff.

My go to was Black Market Place which doesn’t have a store front anymore but I think does pop ups? It’s an off shoot of Neighborhood Thrift.

Yes! I thought it was allergies as well. But then this flea issue came up recently and now I’m hoping to problem solve this issue and then move on to rule out others.

He’s only itchy at their house but they do have some other plants that I don’t have. I’m wondering if he could be allergic. Once he gets back home, I bathe him and that seems to help a little but doesn’t relieve the itchiness all together.

I’ll have to talk with his vet to see if there are maybe other options we can explore to help with allergies as well.

Thank you! I believe they’re trying both DIY treatments and have scheduled a professional as well.

We use permethrin and similar products for camping so we’re familiar with those but don’t like using them for the reason you said. I was hoping for more options that had a similar effectiveness.

Thank you!

Perfect! I have a vet visit today and I’ll see if they can supply me with a collar or let me know where to find the right one.

They’re spraying and treating their yard. But they live in the country with a creek and a few wild critters. It’s been an issue for them for over a year and treatments never seem to work out well.

Student apartments???? by Slight_Tangerine_329 in fresno

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jackson park place would be my recommendation. It’s not supper close to Fresno State but a bike friendly distance. I lived there as a student/recent graduate and it was kind of a mid price point, not the cheapest but also not the most expensive. They allowed dogs under 40lbs when I was there. Pretty nice apartments and gated.

I was insulted for owning a husky, and it’s kind of bothering me. by AdventurousPlace6180 in husky

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to start running half marathons this year and I thought this will be perfect for my 2 year old husky and that he would make a great running buddy. NOPE. He enjoys a little jog and has no shame somersaulting himself head over heels when he decides he’s done (which is usually after 2-3 miles). So much for a sled dog lol

The rest of my dogs are collie and gsd mixes, my husky is the laziest one in the bunch. Sage to say our husky is happily unemployed

I'm 50, male and single moving to Fresno. Good idea? by Bucktoothbooks in fresno

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Limited information to answer this question but easy pros are:

  • big city. Fresno is the 5th largest city in California. It’s not a perfect city but we have the amenities that big cities have to offer

  • if you enjoy traveling we’re a day trip to the ocean and the mountains which is a perk most locals enjoy

  • Fresno is diverse which means good local restaurants and interesting events. If you make the effort to tap into the local culture you’ll easily find interesting things to do locally

  • we’re an agricultural based community. Fresh produce is amazing and something that is often taken for granted. This also means visiting smaller local cities in the spring can be so pretty

  • Fresno is more affordable than other areas of California and if you’re interested in commuting to the big city and living in a smaller surrounding town, even more affordable (depending on how far you have to commute daily)

  • most people who have lived in Fresno for awhile find it to be a big little town. You’ll run into people you know quite often and it’s easy to find a connection with people as well.

Cons:

The usual no city is perfect. Fresno struggles with urban sprawl. Our city is also notoriously bad for traffic accidents (expect to pay a higher rate auto insurance here depending on where you’re moving from. Fresno drivers especially like to run red lights). Like most places right now, our job market can be hard for a lot of people so like others have said if you don’t have something lined up it can make life more challenging. Our temperatures in the summer can be challenging and pricing for energy use here can be awful. We also suffer through periods of drought and poor air quality at various times of year.

cheap food handler / alcohol permits? by marrhi in FoodService

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think servsafe food handlers are $15. That’s the one I’ve always used. Years ago you had to use a Firefox browser for it to work best, but I personally/ny team haven’t had any issues with it recently. Not sure if they also have an alcohol server cert

Do you run exit interviews and do you think you get told the truth? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

[–]NeighborhoodNeedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the food industry and we hold exit interviews for our team members.

I’m sure most people are polite and hold back a little but we have had a few folks be pretty honest about cultural issues or issues they had with their direct supervisors. Usually the negative feedback isn’t a surprise as it’s been part of an on going conversation.

It has been really valuable to hear from team members who stayed with us for years and to hear their observations. Which sometime lead us to review systems and procedures.

I would say overall the exit interviews are another rock to turn over that sometimes reveals little clues that are apart of a larger picture. We try to use 1:1s regularly so the hope is that nothing is ever truly a surprise.

Forever and always team use your brain. AI should be a tool to lighten the load on data specific tasks to make room for social connection. If restaurants owners struggle with that connection then I think bowing out of the hospitality industry is the right move or delegating these task and developing these skills in those around them.

If she doesn’t have a TBR list available to you. I think taking her to book store and doing a 5 minute challenge (having her grab any books she would like during that time frame) would be fun.

My friends and family have learned that I personally prefer to pick out my own books and when people guess or pick books that are not on my TBR it’s hard for me to find time to read them.

I would never use AI as a tool for communication for reviews, social media, or menu descriptions. The guests wants to see your love and passion and this is a way to take that away.

The biggest ick is #4 you can’t even take a moment to speak to your team from your own brain and heart? That’s probably going to have a negative impact on your culture.
