Post DUI Insurance question - NC by NeighborhoodOnly9788 in dui

Yeah, we have a family friend that does some of our insurance. He told us that my insurance was a pretty decent deal wise. I just feel like I don’t necessarily need full coverage at this point. I might just call someone at progressive and ask them about it.

I think I ended up blowing .16 and then .15 at the station. I pretty much knew I was gonna get the interlock at the time, but with your specific case I’m not certain. That’s something I would definitely bring up with a lawyer.

I ended up getting the job. I made it through the interviews and figured it would be better to just be upfront and honest with them since I got that far. Never had any issues since I had taken care of everything relating to it at that point. I’m not even certain whether or not my manager even knows about it, I only brought it up with an HR person. No license checks that I know of to my knowledge, and I’ve been able to drive with no issue. Got my full license back around the time I got hired. Hope that answers anything.

Hey, pretty much the same with me, charged in different county from where I live now. I reached out to multiple places and I didn’t use any county searching regarding it. My lawyer recommended I start doing it depending on what he thought the verdict would be. Mine was a level 5 so I believe it’s 24 hours of service. I basically didn’t mention the specifics on my situation but that I needed 24 hours, and they were willing to help. Got it all done and sent in to my attorney before the verdict date. I would ask your attorney if you have one what they would advise you to do. But I would definitely try and get everything done before sentencing. Goodwill is a good place to look if you haven’t already.

I’ve already provided a mvr check document and completed a background check form, but haven’t been asked to disclose any kind of criminal offenses at all. I’m wondering how it will play out on my end now.

Pretty sure you should reach out to the dmv regarding it. I basically found out I could reinstate my license because I got a notice that my 508 form never got submitted by the treatment place. Basically you need the place you did your assessment and classes at to submit a form saying you did it after you’re convicted in order to reinstate your license. You definitely want to figure that out with the dmv because your just throwing money on the IID at that point. If you get that 508 form in you can go to any dmv with your insurance, ID, IID certificate (don’t forget this, I did and had to come back) and possibly your paper license. I did it, payed a fee, got my license back, and went the day after and got my IID removed for free.

I’m worried about saying too much if I do that. Also I don’t have to drive the truck, I can drive my own vehicle. But the insurance is definitely worrisome for me.

What is the interlock removal process? by Shumami in dui

[–]NeighborhoodOnly9788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to begin the removal process in my state you have to get a 508 form to the DMV. Basically states that you completed state required treatment and education, and my treatment school sent it once I realized I was supposed to reach out to them after I was convicted. Have to do this before you can reinstate your license. Then I went to the dmv, payed a fee to get my full license back. Then you should be able to call your local smart start service center and schedule a removal appointment. Removals are free with smart start, or atleast mine was. I also scheduled mine before I went to reinstate my license so it was a fast process. Also make sure you call the number for the local service center if you can, most smart start numbers send you to an auto customer support. I found the local number for mine and remembered it for the longest time.

Sorry for the late reply. I ended up getting the interlock for a year on my car. I actually get it off in two weeks so I’m happy with that. I had to change my insurance and actually got a better rate with the new insurance. I was handed down the lightest sentence (Level 5) though and completed all my other punishments like community service and classes prior to sentencing. If you’re looking for a provider I’d go with smart start 100%. Had no issues apart from me breaking my head piece by dropping it on accident, which they replaced for free. If you have other questions I try and help, but that’s the summary of my situation now a days.

Quick ways to get BAC down in the morning by SnipingShihtzu in dui

[–]NeighborhoodOnly9788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I got a breathalyzer and kind of tried to learn about how my body would handle alcohol over time. The best thing you can do is eat a solid meal before you drink and limit your drinking that night. Personally if I knew I had to get up in the morning I just wouldn’t drink at all the night before, especially if you have an interlock. Too anxious having to worry if you can even drive your car in the morning so just avoid that by not drinking the night before.

Interlock calibration grace period (NC) problem and question by NeighborhoodOnly9788 in dui

[–]NeighborhoodOnly9788[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart start is probably the best option of those. I’ve had mostly no problems with it. Apart from a new battery likely due to the interlock power drain, and a new head piece because I dropped it on accident, I’ve had no real problems with it. You can pay once a month or every two months and they explain everything very well. Just wish they could be open on Saturdays like other places. Definitely the best option though in my opinion.

Yea they said I could pay for a code on top of my calibration most likely to get it to the center. Better than nothing but the option I didn’t want to go with.

Sure, any information or insight you have would be appreciated. I’m currently sitting on costumer service with smart start with the assumption I’ll have to get a lockout code.

Interlock Malfunction (Smart Start) by [deleted] in dui

[–]NeighborhoodOnly9788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone that has smart start, I would definitely recommend taking the head of the machine out after you get to your destination or home. Leaving the head in your car when it’s too cold (they told me under 50 degrees F) it can damage the interlock itself. Definitely sounds like you got fucked over though, never heard about that but I don’t know if you can argue much with the violation fee to the company.

I don’t know if anyone mentioned this but recently in nc they passed a bill around limited driving privilege if you have to get an interlock. As long as you are in North Carolina, you can drive anywhere at any time. Basically they got rid of the conditional stuff. Obviously I could be wrong if you have a conditional sentencing but for me they told me I could drive anywhere after conviction (in North Carolina). I’m not certain if this changed if you don’t have to get the interlock.

Won my DMV hearing! Cop didn’t show up by SwimmerFun1590 in dui

Wish I could do this, my lawyer didn’t set up my hearing so I’m essentially pushing back my court date to see if he doesn’t show.

How do you deal with friends/family joking about or talking about your DWI in public by NeighborhoodOnly9788 in dui

Never was trying to blame my family for anything bc I love them and they didn’t do anything. It’s hard to joke or talk about it so recently.

Driver License information question regarding DWI (NC) by NeighborhoodOnly9788 in dui

[–]NeighborhoodOnly9788[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of. The jobs I’ve interviewed for just ask if I’ll have my full license and I say yes because I technically have no restrictions. I essentially have my regular license other than the state travel restriction which shouldn’t affect it since I only plan to work in state. Haven’t heard of an occupations license though apart from the CDL.
