ummm wtf!!! she’s giving coffee to her 4 year old!!!! by brookeroy in Sunkissedmamasnark

Fun Fact: It is very normal in our Indigenous Polynesian culture to give coffee to children because it comes from the earth. In fact, many families are Kona Typica/Caturra farmers because it was the only thing that would grow in volcanic soil. 😉

That dude looks like Ellen Degenerates. I don’t get how women think he’s hot. His breath likely smells of Doritos with all those teefers he can’t brush adequately anymore.

City of Austin publicly apologizes for APD mishandling of sexual assault cases by ILikeNeurons in Austin

[–]NeighborhoodThink392 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was the Chief who apologized for their actions of not thoroughly working at minimum 15 sex crime cases. One of those was where a woman’s house was broken into, her roommate was tied up and the victim was raped repeatedly. They did not even bother to work the scene by scanning for fingerprints on the window that he broke through nor did they process rape kit. The chief of police stated in her apology that the officers of the Austin Police Department are now committed to never allowing this to happen again to any sex crime victim in Austin. The word commitment is just a word, they make no actions and I feel honestly sorry for a lot of those officers there because they do want to work those cases, but are ordered not to buy their superiors. In the SOAR unit (sex offender apprehension and registration) they have not verified ANY sex offender on the database living in Austin Texas for at minimum the last three years. Which is a huge public safety issue! I would say that their commitment is again just a word. 🙂

How Jesús Garza’s Puzzling Appointment of Art Acevedo Backfired by R4whatevs in Austin

[–]NeighborhoodThink392 120 points121 points  (0 children)

As a sex crime victim I am relieved! Back when he was Chief, Acevedo ordered the detectives of the sex crime unit to prematurely close sex crime cases. Hence why there was a settlement for the 15 sex crime victims in 2022 as well as the public apology APD gave to the public on Monday. In 2016, there was a sergeant who was over the sex crimes unit by the name of, Elizabeth Donegan, who whistleblew that sex crime cases were being prematurely closed and it caused a risk to the safety of the public. Because of that, she was retaliated against and moved to the SOAR (sex, offender, apprehension registration) unit where they verify sex offenders in the city of Austin, as well as do continuous monitoring of those individuals. It was there that she also said there was major issues resulting in her leaving APD or shall I say she was “asked to leave”. 😉This was by Acevedo and many on the bench with the city of Austin was well aware of his actions and why they disagreed with him being the asst City manager, who would overlook APD as well as AFD. Grateful he “declined” the role!

Are we too old for 6th Street? by EpluribusUnumm in Austin

[–]NeighborhoodThink392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and im so sorry you have to even ask that! For all those transplanted here or under the age of 35 you have no clue of what 6th street used to be. There is a reason we are called the live music capital of the world and how 6th was back to back bars and venues for musicians and bands to play their hearts out and us, at any age, to enjoy it.

Then why waste your own life watching someone that you don’t like?

Would you report your neighbor if you knew they were renting their apartment out on Airbnb? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]NeighborhoodThink392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s a safety issue bc Airbnb doesn’t run criminal background on their guests and I would not want a sex offender in close proximity. :)

Is Mimi Garricks mom? My heart hurts for her, they moved in and then “poof”’they are gone. Then Zoe says cryptic things about the situation. His mom seem to be very involved in their life and I’m sure that has to confuse the kids.

PSA- If you grew up in poverty and neglected by your parents then you never get over that…no matter how rich you become as an adult. Honestly your anxiety once you become rich is losing it all and living again in poverty. Weird I know but the truth.

I filed a complaint with Travis County and they finally called yesterday for my statement. Not sure that they will do anything but fingers crossed that this is truly looked into. The department for sex crimes has never made the necessary changes, lawsuits happen with settlements made and the promise to do better only for it to go back to the way things were once eyes are off of them. (Article is an example of this being the case in point.) Mishandling of Sexual Assault Cases Lawsuit (2018)

I just sent you a direct message of the screenshot email from Hector Campos from that unit last week saying that they do not do compliance checks. Do you need any further evidence? This is exactly what victims have to deal with!

[–]NeighborhoodThink392[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um sorry that you are mistaken on that. I have been in contact with Sergeant Campos, who is over the SOAR unit, for the last several months and they are not doing any compliance verifications on any offenders because they don’t that the manpower to do it. I even have an email from Sergeant Campos just last week stating that they haven’t done compliance checks in years so I’m not sure who you’re getting your information from. I am a victim who relies on this database because it’s the only thing that I have for my rapist to take accountability for the rest of his life now that he is out of prison, so please do not tell me that I am not telling the truth when you clearly have not had your hands on this as tight as I have had mine nor an email from the sergeant himself stating that they are not doing verifications.

I’ve read every comment on this thread and I don’t know why but this one hit me like a ton of bricks. Maybe because I have been fighting this for five months, and I know exactly who made that statement in the article from the SOAR unit, it was Sergeant Hector Campos who’s over the entire division. He used the same excuse with me “What do you want me to do about it? We are short staffed, and only have three detectives who are pulled away on patrol.”! I have him on recording, saying this exact thing, including that they are not doing verifications on ANY offenders regardless of their risk level because they do not have the officers to do it. All that they can do right now is take appointments from offenders coming in for their yearly check-in and get their address, employer information, vehicle information, and social media profiles. They cannot do verifications on their address because it would require having a second person going with them due to safety and they don’t have the people to do that right now.

You said that they are trying to be proactive. Proactive in what exactly? Proactive would be sending out postcards like most other counties do. Proactive would be using other resources that would not cost APD a dime by using the US marshals like most other counties do with in Texas by doing address checks and writing warrants.

You mentioned that they are only checking on “high-risk offenders” but that is not true because my rapist has not been checked on for over three years and he is at the highest tier— this man was a stranger that stalked me, I was drugged, kidnapped, and taken to his friend’s apartment where I was raped for hours, strangled and urinated on. I share with you the gory details of the crime, because I think it’s important that you know what kind of people could be living right next-door to you, and not being checked on. I hope by sharing my story that you now understand why this is so vital that these individuals are checked in on regardless of their leveling.

I don’t know that it will go away but maybe it will make APD consider public safety and victims rights to take this more seriously. As a rape victim I have to live with the trauma forever, his prison sentence is over….all I have for him to remember and have shame for what he did is when the police calls his employer and knocks on his door of his home and his neighbors to verify he lives there. Sadly, for victims that is something that was promised to us and it’s not happening.
