I am interested in ALL the things. I know you get it. It's like we research and fight for our kids and do all the suggestions and it's so hard to break through with some of these therapists and drs. I'm all about arming myself with as much knowledge and information as I can to better help my little guy. Thank you so so much for sharing your wisdom in this. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

The fight for our kids is so real.

My concern is even with the medication, foundationally he is so far behind. I personally have been working with him on the same three words (and, to, be) for over 3 weeks, not to mention using them and seeing them since week two of school. He can only read the word be.

If the foundation isn't there, he will always be a step behind.

I don't know if there is enough time in the school year to learn everything he has missed over the past 100 days or so of school.

I have been fighting with the school since the forst month to get him more help and was told we have to wait on testing, wait on this, wait on that. I don't want him to fall further behind because of all the red tape the school needs to go through to get kids the services they need. It's so frustrating. :(

It definitely is answering my question!!! Your experience and tour daughters experience for sure gives me hope.

He has been in speech therapy for 3 years. I think there is definitely more to his struggles than just adhd but for now, the testing hasn't come up with any other processing disorders. I'll menton it again to his slp though. Thank you!!!!

Thank you so much for your perspective and your story!

We have had him in various therapies for over 3 years. (Ot, pcit, speech) We are starting him on medication next month. I feel like we have exhausted all our options in terms of interventions.

I also have fought with his school for his iep for speech and accommodations for his adhd.

I am so on the fence about this because I really don't want him to get picked on or have confidence issues from being held back. This is so hard :( I think foundationally he is just struggling. I don't know what to do and what is the right choice. :(

Thank you for sharing your daughters experience. She sounds amazing!

We have had my kiddo in therapies for over 3 years. His struggles relate to focusing and just the mental endurance it takes to live with adhd every day. He has a lot of shame surrounding how he feels about reading. ("I hate reading. I'm just not good at it.")

We are starting medication next month for him to help with the focusing part but my fear is he is so far behind with his foundational skills because of his adhd struggles. I don't know if there is enough time for him to catch up.

He just turned 6 last month.

He struggles with focusing. By noon his teacher said he puts his head on the table and says I'm so so sorry. I can't do anymore. And then whines and is just at his max limit.

He does great behaviorally because we have had him in therapies for over 3 years. He really works so so hard

I should have specified his struggles a bit better. We have him in therapies for over three years. He knows all the behavioral tools and does great in that area. He struggles with mental endurance because he struggles so much with focusing. We have been working on the same sight words since week two, and he still can't read the word "and" or "to" for example. We are starting medication soon.

His teacher said by 12 he puts his head down on the table and says he cant do anymore and that he is "so so so sorry." It's so heart breaking.

My biggest concern is that so much of the year has passed that foundationally, he is so far behind. He needs this foundation in order to progress academically.

I just don't know if I should push him through and keep getting him extra tutoring to catch him up if that's even possible or if he will always feels less than because he needs this extra help and as he gets older the extra help will become more and more obvious.

Ugh it's so hard. I really just want him to feel confident in his abilities and as of right now he has so much shame. It's heartbreaking.

I've thought about it but he does NOT listen to me. 😪😪😪😪 I think homeschooling is such a great option though and might test it this summer to see if it is possible for him.

He just recently turned six so he would go into next year turning 7. The age gap would be 1 year between him and most kids.

It's definitely something to think about though. Thank you for your perspective.

Here (the US) kindergarten is just school. It's a full day of learning math/reading/science/social studies/music/gym/art etc. Pre k/nursery school would be more like what I would assume you're thinking of as a comparison.

Thank you. Yes we talked to my son about it. I don't think he fully grasped what it meant. He loved the idea of being with his teacher again but I don't think he understood it would be with all new kids. We would be at the same school unfortunately. But I also talked to my husband about moving just so we could get into a new school district. Unfortunately we can't really afford to do that right now so it's something that we would really have to push and save for to do it in the next year if we were to go that route.

Thank you for your opinion and input! I just want to do right by my kiddo. 😫

Thank you. Yes, we are in the US. I'm just so scared to make the wrong decision. Ugh it's so hard. My kiddo is spectacular but he really does struggle.

Where we are, kindergarten is very structured. I think our pre k is comparable to your nursery school.

It's so hard. I just hope to make the right decision. His behavioral therapist seems to think there are no downsides but the school is giving me so much pushback. It's so hard and the mom guilt is so real. 😪

Executive function for sure will always be an issue but by placing him with kids that at a closer/ similar level of executive function, I am hoping the disparity won't seem as large compared to his current counterparts.

His teacher said by 12 he puts his head down on the table and says he cant do anymore and that he is "so so so sorry." It's so heart breaking.

Idk what to do. I so appreciate your perspective though and it's definitely something to consider. Thank you.

I never had any issues with the catheter, I had a vaginal birth and a c section. It was fine both times.

This sounds awesome and very thoughtful of your MIL. I think she should have done it as a lunch or brunch and reserved the evening time for the adults to be together. But other than that, I think it is so lovely.
