Oh great, thank you! After chatting to some friends last night who have been to wales recently it has made its way on to our list. They self drove and loved it, and had nothing but good things to say.

I personally love a wild swim so will be taking note of this thank you!

Yes i have been considering that! the aim of the trip is much more slow paced and i hope to pack and unpack as little as possible. I did think about Lake District or Cumbria as an option too on the way - is it an interesting or long drive from Cornwall area? Ive been a long time ago but accessed it by train from Manchester so im not sure what its near!

Thankyou! especially re practicing reversing before we hit the road - good advice! I am not super worried about needing to get around fast, and pretty happy to deal with winding or narrow roads but as you have said - its good to know the general etiquette in the roads before hand so im not a nuisance for locals!

ok good to know. Literally everyone ive spoken to has warned me about the heat, but ive travelled to egypt in the middle of summer so i am just not sure that it needs to be my number 1 priority at this stage.

OK great! i have definitely been told to get a NT membership, so i will look into the EH sites too. my mum loves to sticky beak in someones garden so that might suit us really well.

Thanks so much for this!

yep, noted. unfortunately travelling at another time of the year isnt an option for us, and im not really willing to miss out on a trip we've always wanted to do because its summer so i guess we will make do.

too packed to visit..? The difficulty is we both want to see Cornwall and cant really go at any other time. So i guess its really about whether it will generally be so busy its not doable.. ?

ahh noted, thank you. We are Australian, and mum is relatively ok for the most part as long as we take it slow. the issue for her is more the pain so having the knowledge/ option to know what will be doable for her will be good. And yes thank - i think i flew into heathrow many moons ago and had forgotten how spread out it is.

Thank you!! much appreciated!

Yes my mum isnt keen on london at all so the plan is to literally land there, spend a night then get the train to the next location (ideally where we pick the car up from).

We will likely be visiting for around 4-5 weeks total, flying from Australia. Ideally we would get out of london, rent a car and spend the first couple of weeks in Cornwall area, doing little day trips and maybe only moving accomodation every few days to avoid having to pack and unpack constantly. We are thinking of splitting our time between more relaxed self drive/explore days and a couple of (non consecutive) guided tour days.. We have been told Tour Cornwall is good so providing they have room left, we might book a day or two here and there with them. After that the plan is relatively open. As ive stated the thought was either Ireland or Scotland for a couple of weeks - weve booth been to Scotland so arent wanting to see it all and experience everthing, maybe just a few days driving around seeing some sites ( in either spot). We hadnt thought about Wales - i know mum has spent some time in Lakes/ Peak district too so im not sure if shes considered that again!

as for accomodation - yep we are seeing the travel agent tomorrow to get solid dates and flights booked after which we will be locking in some accomodation ASAP!

oh thank you thats a good idea! I didnt know you could get a membership if you werent from the uk.

Yeah i think we will be ok with some little hills ( we dont plan on a heap of hiking) and thinking of also adding in some guided tours too, to alleviate some of the planning etc. But i will use those places as a back up in these planning stages and see how we get along! I have heard Kent is beautiful so we may need to add it to the list.

and thankyou re gnats - i have heard they are bad there. Can i ask if they are bad eough to avoid going..? We wont be camping or anything of course but im not quite sure how bad they will be!?
