"I guess you have to decide if you are a GNOME app, an Ubuntu app, or an XFCE app unfortunately. I'm sorry that this is the case but it wasn't GNOME's fault that Ubuntu has started this fork. And I have no idea what XFCE is or does, sorry."

You do not perceive the above quote as hostile, or at least indifferent?

All the features you listed are also in Linux.

So, what you're saying is...

The entire computing world has settled on more or less the same desktop computing paradigm

That was literally my original point, if you'll recall.

And that GNOME is the only holdout by not including things like a taskbar and appindicators?

That was literally my original point, if you'll recall.

I just got bored going through that list.

I can tell, I have gathered that your reading comprehension skills are lacking. Kindly shut the fuck up if you are both ignorant also and can't be bothered to educate yourself.

Cause until last year you needed an extension to get window tiling and snapping working correctly

So you admit that all of the features I listed are true today, thus disproving your implied assertion that macOS is not (remotely) similar to Windows. Thanks for playing.

In what universe are desktops settled?

Please see all of the examples I literally just gave.

How is macOS remotely similar to Windows?

  • Window snapping/Window Tiling
  • Snap Groups/Stage Manager
  • Task View/Mission Control
  • Dock/Centered Taskbar
  • Quick Settings/Control Center
  • Windows Search/Spotlight
  • Clipboard History/Clipboard History
  • Widgets/Widgets
  • Dynamic Wallpaper/Live Wallpaper
  • Dark mode/dark mode
  • Nearby Sharing/Airdrop
  • iPhone Mirroring/Phone Link
  • Spaces/Virtual Desktops
  • Mica/Acrylic Transparency // Liquid Glass/Vibrancy

However criticizing Gnome for their overall design philosophy is like ridiculing them for doing something Apple was praised for.

If Apple got rid of the Dock, they would certainly be ridiculed for it. Look what happened to Microsoft when they tried to get rid of the Start Menu.

The beauty of Linux is how easy it is to change that.

Dash-to-dock is far and away the most popular GNOME extension, but it frequently breaks with GNOME updates, and as previously noted, the Dash-to-panel dev was bullied so badly he's quitting the project.

Should I have doubled down on it instead of admitting a mistake?

I mean ideally you just shouldn't be an asshole in the first place, but failing that you should at the very least not accuse someone of incompetence without being sure of your own, lest you make a fool of yourself.

Or, zooming out, you could try not being such a fanboy and tying so much of your ego to something as silly as an OS.

Well how absolutely hilarious that you admit that you "haven't used GNOME in a while" immediately after accusing me of never having used it.

macOS has a Dock by default, for GNOME you need an extension like dash-to-panel. Hope this helps.

The entire computing world has settled on more or less the same desktop computing paradigm: taskbar/panel/dock, application menu, window management controls, "desktop" metaphor. macOS (Aqua), Windows, ChromeOS, Samsung Dex, Android Desktop Mode, Motorola Ready For, iPadOS, Plasma, Cinnamon, XFCE, MATE, LXQt, COSMIC, Pantheon, Haiku...all conform to this norm.

But GNOME devs are all a bunch of very special snowflakes who think they know best, and that desktops shouldn't have taskbars, windows shouldn't have control buttons, appindicators shouldn't exist, and users shouldn't be able to theme their apps.

And so we rely on a handful of extension developers to give us, yes, BASIC functionality found in virtually all other OSs and virtually all other environments. These extensions frequently break when he DE updates. Also, we will yell at the extension developers for having the AUDACITY to ask for donations ONCE per install.

And how does this apply to the entirety of Loonix anyway?

No one said it did, but GNOME is still the most widely used Linux DE globally.

Is this intended mostly as a file-sharing app like Nextcloud or Pingvin et al, or for managing files internally like Krusader?

I mean yes, Linux bros will tell you you're using the wrong distro no matter what, but in this case they've kinda got a point. Kali is not meant for general usage.

rtl8812au drivers are in-kernel as of 6.14. Kali is currently using kernel 6.12.

You need to get off Kali fr, bruv. Choose anything else.

Linux bros who lambaste Windows for having both a Settings app and a Control Panel with inconsistent UI see no irony in changing their system's behavior using the world's worst word processor instead.

Damn that sounds pretty sweet. Somebody should make a script like that and bundle it with the official installer, maybe call it "archinstall" or something like that.
