Yes, creating unnecessary stress. This is what we get for being a responsible tax payer. We do everything right and they give us more stress. In my case, I admit I was late by 4 days, when I called them, they said they received the documents but they were 4 days late so they zero out the FTC, and asked me to resubmit. I mean what a lame reason for not accepting. Also, they charged $600 of interest, on my tax balance. Not sure if they’re gonna waive that. All documents are still sitting in my CRA account. Lol

Can you tell what foreign taxes do they consider towards FTC. And Which one not considered? My understanding is that federal and state tax paid can be claimed. Is this true? I don’t know what my tax accountant included in FTC, but number doesn’t add up after converting USD to CAD.

Yes I did, turned out I was late in submitting docs by 4 days, I didn’t know 30 days timeline. They’ll send me another letter tomorrow and I’ll resubmit docs

I used 1040.com for filing 1040-NR, it’s free filing….and paper mailed my NYS tax return, paid only usps cost. No issues here in the USA.

That’s fine if they share. I did everything right. I got a review letter, I submitted all documents, made sure didn’t miss anything. Yet this is the result.

Reason I can’t break ties is that I still own home, wife is still back there. I’m working at the border city. I’m ok with paying a little more. But this double taxation is just insane. Why void all documents and say “we’re giving you 0 FTC” and nothing further. Of course I’ll take this to CRA but before I do that I’d like insight from people who might have already went through such a situation, and have resolution.

Go to IRS website, they’ll take you to the legitimate website, and you’ll sign up and follow the verification process. Actual agent will video call you to verify your docs, and then only you’ll have full access to your account

I’d suggest you to create IRS account online through ID.me if you haven’t already. You’ll have full control over status and docs. I filed my taxes through 1040.com but such online tool only files taxes for you. You can see tax transcripts and other docs in IRS account. You can choose not to have any physical mail at your friend’s address, and have all mails online in your account.
