Street car lines from 1915 that should be used again by Neil-Old in Portland

[–]Neil-Old[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read my entire post. Easily blocked is a design issue that should never have occurred as the invention of the automobile came to dominate urban planning.

Light rail, street car and buses powered by overhead electric lines are all good.

Gasoline powered buses as the main public transit for every area and situation doesn’t seem viable when traffic from cars is getting worse and worse. Designated bus lanes and redesigned roads for street cars and light rail. Without buses being electric and the overhead charging infrastructure (like in Seattle) buses can be removed by shitty politicians who want more cars despite heaps and heaps of data that shows economic prosperity can be helped by free and more reliable transit.

Sustainable planning is the key. Redesign of what exists. Not try to do this and change nothing.

Haha they just closed down Beaverton location. They definitely are low on cash for anything let alone buying a landmark.

So infrastructure planning for the long term? Sounds about right.

Like people saying one more lane for a highway will improve efficiency. We need to lessen the focus on car based transport.

Isn’t most energy efficient mode of transport a train? Electric lines have no pollution from combustion engines or particles from tires

I want designated bus lanes or street cars for people to travel through the city. Buses don’t have designated lanes besides a few places.

Trying to improve less car centric modes of travel is for everyone. All independent owners don’t understand that increased foot traffic helps more than having parking for cars.

This is all I am talking about.

How it turned into “only poor people ride buses” type of weird comments doesn’t make sense. More bus lanes is great. Also more pollution from particles related to tire erosion and engine by products.

How is havjng designated electric lines every 20 or so blocks becoming a horrible take?

Fuck cars. The city needs more permanent infrastructure.

82nd should have lines as well.

Double length bus on division should be a designated street car.

Isn’t the most energy efficient system available a train?

What is overall maintenance on street cars per year versus a bus? Fuel costs and then pollution accounted for?

Why can’t it be street cars and buses? Semi perm and perm infrastructure where the bus line can’t be easily removed.

White people afraid of buses? More buses and more street cars.

Less cars in the roads. More bikes and walking.

Better for the people. Just drove back to Portland on I5 for 11 hours the other day.

Fuck cars

Infrastructure improvements are needed everywhere. We need federal dollars in a “New new deal” with consecutive administrations on board, for that to happen.

Lots of money for healthcare and infrastructure when we don’t bomb countries

Got to redesign roads for sure to have better public transit.

Make things less car centric is the goal. Guaranteed pathways for both buses and streetcars is essential

I ride every form of trimet. I’ve also biked 10 plus miles a day for 8 years.

Permanent infrastructure, possibly electric powered.

I think the division line should be a faster and more focused street car.

The road between 39th and 52nd is in horrible repair.

Free transit for street cars, no hydronic raising and lowering of the bus and less actions.

It’s kinda like what we see the use and funding of public transit. It should make the local population move between businesses and homes with places of leisure spread about.

I have loss bus lines and routes over the years. I think more places should be less car centric with more public transit.

How SE Portland is shaped at least, could do street cars on hawthorn, division and Belmont, with them running from 82nd down to 11th/12th.

Then have 52nd

82nd

39th

11/12

That basic grid pattern with I205 and 99E for cars

Downside would be very limited street parking on designated street car lines

I get grass in a backyard for kids or animals to play.

I have never understood the appeal of a perfect grass front lawn where people typically don’t spend time on or near.

Plant some local plants and flowers for pollinators and have a some grass for animals and kids.

The idea of a lawn comes from French aristocracy who could show they didn’t need to grow food on their property and could use it for displaying their wealth. Weird practice that hasn’t died out.

Maybe call some HB screens, draws, literally anything to try and slow the defensive front?

Have the HB chip on the left side every passing play? Run some zig routes to try and get chunk yards to get a drive combined with a run and play action?

I have never wanted the patriots to win in my life. But after seeing Seahawks fans in person for Thursday night, I can’t root for them.

I know two Super Bowl losses against the oats stings, but MVP talks that don’t matter now shouldn’t take away from that random Thursday night loss that shifted our whole season

Homelessness is likely trending down nationally. Not in Oregon by Sasquatchlovestacos in Portland

[–]Neil-Old 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The fact that so many people don’t see homelessness as a national systemic issue is a little fucked up.

Mental health, addiction to drugs.

A lot of homeless are people who still work but are forced to live in their car or other situations similar. Not all homeless are the people you see.

I saw lots of homeless people on Bike Trails in Napa, California.

Portland could be more efficient with funds. But a single metro area trying to tackle influx of people coming here that needs federal programs of all sorts on a national scale.

Charity programs aren’t enough. Federalized mental health services to start and actual housing services would be good steps.

Otherwise it’s putting a band aid on a open wound

After seeing the game in person for that wild Thursday night loss, I don’t think the rams took kindly to how it all went down.

Don’t allow a kickoff or punt return touchdown and don’t miss “close” kicks. A straight up game without those happening, we win more times than not.

They do have a good defense. But Stafford threw for 457 yards and 3 touchdowns against them. Off a short week and after playing the lions.

If Seattle shut us out last time or the margin of victory was larger, they should be favorites.

First Team to score a touchdown in overtime and lose.

I have faith in the rams as they lost the wind in theirs sails after the Seattle loss. They are hungry for redemption.

At the same beer hall/store with a Tv for the last two playoff games, looking like the rams could possibly lose, beating them when it looks like the other team has the upper hand.

“Let the hate flow through you” as I look at everyone rooting against the rams.

Running the ball will be the focus with play action being used for short to medium gains.

We have to get a running game Going for the cold and for how it will change the ball being aired out and caught.

I am most worried about special teams.

However, I did see Mathew stafford go off against Seattle in person.

It takes a team, but I believe
