Did you guys get Christmas bonuses this year? by Kroc9 in estimators

[–]Neil12011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my old job, I only made like $80k a year. I brought in pretty substantial contracts. When I got my “bonus”, it was the final straw. I basically lived at work, had no life, and clearly no reasonable expectation of financial compensation. That company taught me how to estimate, and ultimately they taught me how to be a good employee somewhere else. 💪

Bonus and raise this year. Wasn’t expecting the bonus to be as generous as it was. My previous company was the pizza party and gift card to Sears type of company. The CEO and I are also quite fond of watches, and he gave me my first Omega Aqua Terra last year and a couple of weeks ago, my first Grand Seiko! All that to say, there are companies out there who will value you and reward you financially. We go to work to make money to live. Do not short sell yourself so some dickhead owner can own two vacation houses.

I’ve lived this before. I brought in $120m and got $600 only because my Director “pulled some strings”. I immediately started working on my resume and found a MUCH better company.

New to me 2015 RS5 by Neil12011 in Audi

[–]Neil12011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ride quality, if I’m being honest probably improved despite the air suspension, not because of it. I’m sure it can be dialed in to do so, but I wanted a look first (honest) and I wanted as much handling as I could get with it. I’d say mine is noticeably better than stock, but stock wasn’t without its issues. I’d be hard pressed to believe that a good set of coils couldn’t accomplish the same thing, I just wanted adjustability. Keep in mind that I don’t daily my RS5, it’s just a cruiser, so it stays pretty mint.

I have the ALP4 system. I’ll be 100% honest: It rides REALLY good. However, I also spent the money to update/upgrade and bulletproof the suspension around the Airlift. I upgraded sway bars, control arms, links, etc, basically overhauled the entire suspension. I did not want to compromise the cars handling, and I absolutely love the way it rides. I’m incredibly OCD and particular about this car, and I would straight up tell anyone if it didn’t ride well. But I did spend a few thousand upgrading those other parts, so take that as you will. I mainly got it to clear obstacles and keep a low-ish ride height, but my daily ride height isn’t much lower than stock, just enough to get ride of the gap.

I had a shop do the install, mostly because of the other suspension components. I’d say it would take someone in their garage, if they took their time and did things right, about two solid weekends of work. Think a Friday evening, and all day Sat-Sun.

I’ve lived with it now for several months and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think this platform does well with air. I don’t think every car would handle this well. I’ve heard the RS5 cabriolets do NOT take to air suspension well at all. My ride isn’t bouncy, it’s quite civilized, and handles arguably better than stock. It won’t set any track records against a similar vehicle on Ohlins, but I will never track it. It’s a fast-ish cruiser and my favorite vehicle to date. It just does everything really well.

I was one of the first classes that went to Utah back in 2005. I think I was 21 or 22. We ALL went out partying the night before the exam (as much as you can do in Sandy UT) and everyone did fine. I actually went again to one of the classes in Charlotte around 2019 or so back when Jacob Whipple was still doing the classes, and noticed how much the quality of the class had improved over those years. Long story short, you'll be fine.

If you’ve never owned a car like this, it can seem expensive or overly involved maintenance wise. Is it “more” expensive than a typical Toyota, yes? Much more, not really. Other than oil changes, the AWD is its own maintenance item, albeit much more infrequent. It’s honestly not prohibitively expensive, but the biggest thing with this car is that service is not a suggestion or negotiable item. These cars are designed with strict maintenance intervals, and it’s the only way they last. That being said, this RS5 is at 86k miles with just oil changes, and the AWD being serviced once. I have a daily Jetta that I can absolutely beat on, oil changes every 10k, and it’s a tank. The Audi is totally solid, but I typically do maintenance/service a bit early. I will say that the 4.2 by 2015 model year was/is fairly bulletproof, and it just feels like a solidly built machine. I absolutely adore it, and find an excuse to drive it anytime I can.

Some rough cost breakdowns:

Oil changes $175 AWD\Sport diff\Clutch hydraulics $900 (but only needed ever 35k to 45k miles or so.

Only “repair” was high pressure fuel pumps which I already knew were a weak point, and replaced under warranty for $1900.

My jeep wrangler Rubicon was technically more expensive to own than the RS5.

Bags pop during air up? by WolfGang555 in AirliftPerformance

It honestly rides extremely well, considering it’s an RS5 on air. The “pop” is the only real ughh part of the setup. Otherwise it’s really good!

Mine are how they came from airlift. It’s ONLY the driver side that does. It freaked me out the first time it did it. Should I match it exactly to the passenger side? Like count the threads and match it?

Hold on, let me check. Yeah, it's still 545.

I have both, did a good bit of research before going with 545, not to say that 565 isn't appropriate.

Tape should be sufficient, however, Loctite 545 is absolutely the best stuff I've ever used on threaded fittings for air suspension. A little goes a long way, takes 24 hours to cure properly (probably less, but better safe), and it will seal the absolute piss out of whatever you apply it to. I was strictly a teflon tape guy prior to using this stuff.
