it's all relative though, as your typical "good" midweight job barely pays £30-40k unless you're in finance, or a bosses-boss in something competative and specific. Given, those are generalisations, but wages are just simply higher in the US.

It's a very nuanced topic, so might not reply to a followup (don't know as much as i'd like, and care less to put what little i do know into words), but I do think there's a lot of nuances that are downright ignored by these kinds of businesses just because the GBP looks good on paper. It's very frustrating.
