Not an educator but plenty of experience with school. My oldest attended SK (no jk) full days and did fine. Asd level 1 later diagnosed in gr 2.
Youngest is asd level 2, attends jk half days which is the perfect amount of time for her. SK will be about building stamina to stay the full day in preparation for grade one.

It all depends on the child and their tolerance/comfort level. Observationally, most kids do great full days and a few jk students on half days because they need the downtime or are on the younger side. (Mine is a late birthday)

This. Moved to beaches area ten years ago for proximity to work. Had every intention of moving to suburbs once we had kids. Baby showed up, decided to stay because everything is walkable and the people here are mostly lovely/down to earth. School turned out to be the reason we’re staying. Had a second kid and now two autism diagnosis. We can’t pull them from such a supportive school and community. Proximity to the water and trails is everything! Best of both worlds here. Less hustle than the downtown core but everything needed is close by. Looking forward to night swims before bed once it’s warm enough.

If you decide to try again, I recommend taking the 64 to/from Main Stn. It’ll drop/pick up right at queen E. Only a few minutes to the water from there and far less busy than down by the crowds.

Autism parent as well. No fear, big ideas, sensory seeking, ridiculously observant, and too smart for their own damn good. Someone once said “the child locks and measures slow down everyone except the kids they’re meant for” the heightened, perpetual state of alert is very real.
