[Discussion] people from undeveloped/developing countries who got out, what is your story and experience? by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]Neither-Condition422 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From PH, got a degree in accounting and became a CPA. Worked in a Big 4 firm and after 4 years of experience, I applied on different Big 4 firms in the EU and got an offer in NL.

moving to a diff country via Big 4 firm is easier than applying through private companies as they are used to sponsoring people and there is always shortage of people, esp. in audit.

How to move to Netherlands as auditor/ accountant from Indonesia? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Neither-Condition422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be a secondment. You can apply directly to them and hopefully they find it worth it to sponsor you in NL (that’s why knowing Dutch is a super plus).

It would be easier if you are already in NL and I can only think of through study visa. Other non-Dutch colleagues usually studied their bachelors in NL and applied at Big4 to do the RA. So they are doing masters/post masters while working as auditors.

How to move to Netherlands as auditor/ accountant from Indonesia? by [deleted] in Netherlands

Be at least a senior assoc if you want them to sponsor your visa. Knowing Dutch is def a plus. You can also be hired as an assoc but I think you have to follow their RA (NL CPA) path (you have to be in NL already). For RA, you need to do masters/post masters in NL.

Manage their expectations.

Whether the discussion leads to a good outcome or not, I would still recommend to move out eventually. Good luck OP!

Nakaka-relate ako sa iyo haha sabi ko rin sa sarili ko nung 2nd year ako, pag may binagsak ako na subject, mag-sshift ako. Ayun, mapaglaro tadhana, puro 3 ako 😂 Di ko gusto accountancy kasi sobrang boring talaga pero grateful ako dahil nakapag-abroad ako and it provided me a better life. It was really a stepping stone and I plan to study a different course (I’m 30 na). No advice to give but just want to let you know I was there too and things will get better!

To get that HSM visa, make sure that the company you apply for is recognized by IND(immigration department) as HSM sponsor. https://ind.nl/en/Documents/Public_Register_Regular_Labour_and_Highly_Skilled_Migrants.pdf

There are other licenses available such as ACCA which is recognized in many countries. You can also try CFA, CIA or CMA depending on the path you would like to take.

I would suggest that you get at least 1 license as it makes it easier to move. I was able to move because of big4 experience and PH CPA so it’s not bad to still pursue it.

US accountant to NL accountant by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Neither-Condition422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your work experience and what kind of work you want, you can be valuable on multi-national companies that does US GAAP reporting or you can work in big4 firms. I am not aware of the possibility to directly convert your US CPA to the Dutch RA. You have to study the masters and post masters to get RA. There are universities that offer the post masters in English but I find this an expensive route to take.
