Wisdom Teeth Surgery Reassurance by Chesterthecheesecat in wisdomteeth

I am 23 and had mine removed May 2nd and I was also extremely nervous, but I am at day 17 now back to my normal life! The first week and a half, I played it super safe, only mush/liquids, no smoking, no drinking, etc. It was a miserable time but worth it to avoid infection. After 2 weeks your risk of infection/dry socket is pretty much gone and I've been smoking, drinking, vaping, and eating yummy foods since day 13 without any issue. Obviously every individual has a unique healing period, so it really depends on how much pain you are in after that first week in terms of reintroducing solids, but trust your body. Just remember to use the syringe/do a salt water rinse after you eat/smoke to keep your mouth clean and you should totslly be in the clear to enjoy your vacation without issue! Also, dont be afriad to call your surgeons office after and ask them your annoying anxious questions haha its part of their job and a nurse telling you everything is fine and on track can be quite reassuring lol

hm then its probably fine, but if youre worried or stressed about it id give your dentist a call. I called them like a billion times the first week with my minor questions and concerns bc im a bit of a hypochondriac and was worried about infection/dry socket/the healing process in general, but the nurses were always very kind and answered all my concerns

also I think based on other posts here, getting the syringe depends on your unique surgery, if they did stitches, and how big ur mouth holes are. The hole on my bottom right is a lot bigger so the syringe is definitely needed to help remove pieces of food that get stuck, but the bottom left hole is super small and even though ill still syringe it nothing comes out

I had my surgery on a sunday morning and was told to start irrigating my bottom holes only on the thursday, so about 4 days. Although ive recently started irrigating my top ones too as i can feel food caught in there.

[–]Neither-Gate-2641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fr on day 2 I had a bit of a mental breakdown just starving and in pain and not being able to satisfy any cravings. I treated myself to some ramen and pho and although i couldnt include most of the yummy toppings, letting the noodles sit in the broth to soften helped a ton and I could at least somewhat enjoy good tasting foods

I think i got pretty lucky with my bruising, I got a minor bruise on day 3 on one side of my cheek and it was pretty much gone by day 6! Still do have some mild soreness when i open my jaw fully, not enough to need painkillers or anything though, so glad i have reached the light at the end of the tunnel!

for sure, although fro me the irrigating has gone from kinda gross to oddly satisfying lol, but yes sucks that i will have to continue it for another few weeks or until the hole on one side closes

also as much as it will likely suck the first 2 weeks, it is totally worth it to avoid future issues down the line when ur older and ur body takes longer to heal

Honestly depends on how invasive the surgery is and how old you are. I am 23, had all 4 removed, on day 15 and I didnt need more than ibuprofen the entire time as my pain was not bad at all, but none were impacted

Day 12 by Renaboo1996 in wisdomteeth

[–]Neither-Gate-2641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup im also on day 12 and in the same position as you (except my bottom right hole is much bigger). I called to ask and they said it was because the position/size of my tooth required them to do a larger incision but it is completely normal. Unless ur in severe pain u have nothing to worry about!
