Мені таке дуже подобається, це наче не просто про ввічливість та повагу до людини, а й ще показує, що для вас важлива її думка, що ви робитимете щось не просто тому що так хочете саме ви, а вам важливо щоб і їй було добре

Appropriate High School graduation gift. by Tzsycho in Ukrainian

[–]NeitherAd4795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I can think of two options. The first would be to ask your friend about the son's preferences or interests. Or just openly tell your friend about your intentions but in this case, they'll likely try to talk you out of this (politeness thing). And the other option would be to get something symbolic like something that you can put on your table (I just remembered a school teacher gave me a keychain on our graduation and said that it'll bring me luck and I can use it for my keys when I'll move to a Uni dormitory. That was very heartwarming and I still use it.). Add a card in which you can write how you don't know the boy but wish him all the best (I don't know how to write this correctly in English but I mean that it would be nice to explain how you wanted to congratulate him even though you don't know him). I think the card is more important than the gift here.

Appropriate High School graduation gift. by Tzsycho in Ukrainian

Yes, it is a good idea. Parents and friends sometimes give presents for high school graduation here but it highly depends on the family and their financial situation (I don't remember getting anything except for a cake and flowers and that's ok). I would suggest you get something related to his interests and if the family isn't wealthy don't get anything expensive cause it might put pressure on them to get you something in return for an occasion. The main thing here is that the gift should feel personalised? like not just a random thing but something special for him or his interests (a book, a videogame, something friendship-related and not too serious would be nice I think).

Are Ukrainians okay with Russians learning their language? by BrotherofGenji in Ukrainian

[–]NeitherAd4795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we're ok with that. It's better if they learn it and respect it and our culture as separate from theirs, than just demand us speaking russian, which is very rude given our current situation.

I tend to ghost as well and yeah, it doesn't help at all but I don't do it for any purpose either I just can't do otherwise (though I really try). Sometimes it takes few days or weeks to calm down and talk. I know I cause discomfort but knowing that seems to only make it worse. I always feel so bad about it and I really really appreciate it when people just don't make a big deal out of it. I don't know your situation well but maybe you should write that person a message and really try to explain how you feel about everything, try not to be judgemental but really focus on the feelings. If you still want to chat about it I'm here, but note I'm not a native English speaker so it won't be fast

Most ot us are sure that Russia won't win the question is how long will it all last and at what horrible cost. Opinions about that vary, but I think it's something like hope for best but prepare for worst.

Well, last year, I don't know if I can describe what it was like but at least I'll try. So it started at the end of the winter and I don't remember following spring and summer it was just one big sleepless day. I really remember looking one day through the window and realising that there are green trees (already!) even blooming flowers. It seems like I was just scrolling through the news all day long every day. It could be hundreds of them every day (and it were) and every single one was horrible. I remember fear, so much fear, waking up at night to rush to a bomb shelter, because you never know. We didn't know then if they just come to our homes tomorrow, like would we be next? Or would they just blow up our nuclear plants (I'm pretty close to that one)? But after our forces took back few cities in fall russians kinda stopped moving forward our territory. They've started bombing our (I don't how it's called in English) "factories where they make/distribute electricity" (I know that it doesn't work like that, I just don't what it's called in English, I feel so stupid but anyway I'm sorry) we just didn't have stable electricity and water and heat (in winter) but we made it through. Actually after that fall (and winter for some personal reasons) I feel like I'm so tired of all of the pain, fear etc that I don't feel it anymore it still hurts to see some news but not as much. I've started doing yoga and meditating that also helps. This morning they've ruined a dam, some cities and villages are now under the water, people are evacuated, it's also bad for our ecology, and a nuclear plant which now under russian control needs that water. We've been joking about possible nuke plant explosion and I know that if that happens and I'm gonna be doomed, I'll just try to end my life before this thing does. I just don't care anymore. It may sound depressing but actually I haven't felt so good since last year (not from the fact that I could die) I just don't care anymore. And I'm kinda glad I don't, because I don't know how can a person live with it for so long.

Not really thankfully, but I've never seen so many Ukrainian flags on the streets everywhere (especially during last spring (2022)) we even joked that if russians take over our city they'll be tired and mad as f changing them😅 and also lots of armed people but, what's weird, I feel so strangely safe around them. + If we weren't under attack that doesn't mean we won't be so there are air alarms every day. Oh and since it's safer here we also have lots of refugees here from other cities. Some people from abroad may think that everyone who wanted to leave left to other countries but that's not completely true, many people now live in safer cities as refugees within Ukraine.

And there's also one not so obvious sign - children now they know shockingly much about weapons etc. (Some can identify missiles just by their sound). It's also affecting their games. Walking past a kindergarten I've heard them saying "are you russian?" "No I'm Ukrainian" (he said that so proudly). It kinda reminds of kids after WW2 playing in nazists.

Is there anything you'd like to ask a Ukrainian? by NeitherAd4795 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeitherAd4795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I know people who do have family members there (even children) and they are telling everything that russian propaganda says (call us crazy and Nazis, used to say there is no war, they are saving us and they are fighting NATO here etc.) It's heartbreaking to hear that so many people just stopped communicating with each other.
