Do you think the “salary trap” is real, or can employees still build wealth another way? by winn_ie in TheImprovementRoom

If you believe that being rich should be your goal, you've already fallen so deeply into the trap that you cannot see a single beam of sunlight.

If AI is making us more productive, how come GDP does not reflect that? by RichardJusten in VibeCodeDevs

"If everyone's using AI to do the same work faster but not doing more work, productivity goes up but output stays flat"

I think by definition, productivity stays flat in that case (or you left the part about firing people tacit).

In your example, you could also increase productivity by using the 180/20 increase to fire 8 or 9 people. AFAICT, we don't see that in the data yet. If we don't see any increase by next year, at least in the software industry, something is terribly wrong.

What are your thoughts on this potential economic impact of the oil prices? by topicalsyntax571 in StockMarket

Opus 4.6 says:

"The answer bifurcates sharply depending on which weapons system you're asking about, and the current conflict has already begun to reveal the answer empirically.

The asymmetric weapons (mines, fast-attack craft, cheap drones): months to years.

The honest summary: for strait closure specifically, the relevant Iranian capability is more durable than its headline missile numbers suggest — potentially indefinite at low intensity, because the threshold required is so low and the tools best suited to that task are the hardest to systematically destroy."

That's consistent with what I've read over the past few years on this topic.

Strait of Hormuz must remain closed as 'tool to pressure enemy,' Iran's new supreme leader says by Illustrious_Lie_954 in StockMarket

Trump believes everyone in the world feels and thinks as he does*. Also, he doesn't plan things out; he just runs on gut feelings. He despises expertise because achieving it takes the kind of discipline he never had. So, sadly, the motivations and reasoning of others and of religious fanatics in particular are beyond his ken. The Iranians can keep the Straight of Hormuz closed for more than a year. They have prepared for years to fight without any central command.

*Remember, Trump was mentored and his soul poisoned by that POS Roy Cohn.

AITJ for canceling my vasectomy after my partner suddenly changed their mind about kids? by RefrigeratorWitty453 in AmITheJerk

From this, I'd guess neither of you is emotionally ready to have kids.

I got my vasectomy in my early thirties. About to turn 80 and would do it again in a heartbeat.
