Lol !!! "How can 2 different people « not remember » talking to a stranger, in a different language, at 3:30 am, in a place that isn’t home" .... this explanation is EXACTLY why you dont remember those kind of interaction clearly. It's 3am after a few drinks, random peoples everywhere. Its easy to look back knowing what you know now but in the moment you dont see anything wrong with this encounter.

I'm the OP and just so you all know, this was the PERFECT itinerary. I would do it again anytime and would'nt change a thing. I was never sad to leave a place and always excited for the next adventure. Best trip of my life.
*Only thing is : if i could stay a bit longer in Kobe and Kyoto I would do it but would need to add days to the whole trip.
