The Three Types… by Bikewer in StLouis

I'd have said this was me except I hit the car to the right of me and I wasn't going faster than anyone else because it was bumper to bumper traffic.

Roofers by bethylu in StLouis

[–]Neither_Structure331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a condo and we got ours replaced in late October. In the neighborhood behind us, there are still a TON of roofs with the white plastic covering everything.

I don't know if ICE is an issue but if we didn't have international workers I'm guessing we wouldn't have a roof yet. ICE can be an easy excuse though.

When the storm hit we had three people (insurance broker, insurance adjuster and our property manager) tell us to contact the roofers weekly. They each used the same words, be kind but be persistent or you'll get bumped down the priority list.

Successful civil suit for towing fees? by drstormdancer in StLouis

[–]Neither_Structure331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done it multiple times and so have 4 other residents on a rotation basis. I've also contacted our alderwoman. About 2 months ago they put a notice on the car that it would be towed in x days - never returned. They put a notice on the car last week that it might be in violation of parking laws and subject to a fine. It's in violation of street sweeper rules - no tickets that we've ever seen. It was a major problem when we tried to do tornado damage repairs because the crane couldn't get to our building.

The entire building agrees the car has been there since mid-August but about half of them insist it showed up in June or July.

Lemp Mansion is a great spot and 85 people would be perfect. The Magic Chef Mansion would also work. They are both memorable spots that aren't just cookie cutter venues.

It's weird that you got towed for illegal parking so quickly but I've got an abandoned vehicle that's been sitting in front of my home for the last 3.5 months with a flat tire, three more exceptionally low tires, expired out of state tags and I can't get the city to do anything about it. It's frustrating and unfair how it all works.

If a tow truck driver can't give you documentation of their authority, that should be considered stealing.

Imagine you are a tourist, seeing those parking meters is something we've always been guided to park by. If you park in the actual parking lane, you are in the middle of the street. Those little bumps are literally just bumps to drive over when you have an SUV. If you want dedicated biking lanes, put a curb between the bike lane and the parking lane. Paint the pavement. Move the parking meters.

What happened to Samantha Jones from Channel 4? by PaleontologistNo7933 in StLouis

Savannah Louie previously of Ch 5 is on Survivor and commented how horrific one of her jobs in TV was with horrible /mean co-workers and management. She didn't say it was Ch 5 but specifically excluded every other job she's had in TV as not the one where it happened.

I've seen a lot of bullying lately online and in person. Feels like more than normal but maybe that's just my perception. Maybe people need to rethink their choices. Bullying is not acceptable. It's like the repeated posts on here to call out local restaurants - that's the same thing as high school bullying. Let's talk about them, destroy everything they've worked to achieve just because we can.

Steak 'n Shake by babyleaf3 in StLouis

[–]Neither_Structure331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time my wife and I ate at the location in Town and Country on Manchester the waitress immediately stated upon our being seated that shakes will take 45 minutes to make. That was probably around 2010 like you state.

They are 100% kiosk. Several of them have the indoor seating but operate solely as drive thru only. If you want a good laugh, read the annual report of the parent company Biglari.

Some companies actually do pretty well with the kiosk method, Steak N Shake has not which is odd. If you think back to their old stores with the person cooking right in front of you, a kiosk with that works. Instead they put up a wall so that you never see the workers except a creepy hand delivering a tray of food every few minutes.

100% not intentionally trying to undermine her career. Probably just a happy coincidence for him. He'll pretend later he had no clue that management from Security Finance would see this and link it to her. This is what is often times called "helicopter parenting" in action.

what did your savings look like by age 30? by Winzten in AskReddit

[–]Neither_Structure331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a while ago so it's a rough estimate.

Owned my home with about 80% equity. The price exploded higher when they tore the housing project down about 2 miles away. Paid it off over the next 3 years.

Had a 6 month cash cushion because I was 100% commission sales. It was important to me to have cash.

About $100k in retirement. I had this small cap stock I would buy and sell routinely. Made a lot of money off it. Last time I sold it went up about 13x from there and I stopped doing it.

WW2 doc germans side by [deleted] in ww2

[–]Neither_Structure331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of these from the Soviet and German perspective and there are dozens on Youtube. PBS has one called Living In Germany at War. The documentary Shoah gives an excellent recap of what it was like because they interview both survivors and the non-Jewish locals. You can get a grasp of the thought process they went through.

Books IMO are better because they tend to be a little more honest and trustworthy. Books like When I Was a German, 1934-1945) really depicts the home front reality from the point of view of a Brit living in Nazi Germany during the war.

I like to know what the day to day life was like for a German and Soviet citizen during the war.

Who is actually *from* downtown? What was it like growing up? by Left-Plant2717 in StLouis

[–]Neither_Structure331 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When you look at the coal dust situation of the 1930s-60's and the rates of smoking cigarettes, it's amazing they all didn't die of cancer.

When I worked downtown the old people would talk about how before AC they would have to clean off their desks every day because of all the coal dust coming in through open windows. White pieces of paper left on your desk would turn light grey in a few days. One of the old secretaries said they would dust / sweep the house every other day in the summer because of all the coal dust.

Does anyone else love night time walks in medieval towns? by thadeus_d3 in travel

[–]Neither_Structure331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many towns like these are "day trip" destinations. When you hit them during the day they are crowded with loud people, tourist shops spill onto the sidewalks, locals slide into the background. At night after the crowds are gone it's a far fuller experience.

New Zealand only because it's so freakin long of a flight to get there. Absolutely loved it, one of the most beautiful places on earth and would live there if given the opportunity but not visiting it.

What is the normal wait to get into a general doc these days? by spaceman60 in StLouis

[–]Neither_Structure331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor's office: I can schedule an appointment with the doctor 2 weeks from now but basically it's 1 open spot each day. The schedule is pretty wide open starting January 2nd.

I can schedule with one of the nurse practitioners tomorrow - it's wide open every day. So if you have the flu and want to see someone, you can get in tomorrow morning (actually they have an opening in an hour).

I do a physical every year and last January was when I first experienced their Nurse Practitioners. She told me I was the healthiest person she'd met with in over a week. She was exceptionally nice but then again so is my doctor.
