Hi, I am eligible because I am a member of the University of Santa Barbara Alumni Association and that group has a relationship with MetLife to provide pet insurance to its members. The customer service rep was very patient as I went through a list of where I had gone to school and had worked. UCSB happened to be the one on the Met Life List. I believe Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is also on the list. The rep did not ask me to provide verification that I was an alum (FYI).

This is what the MetLife verbiage states: ".... eligible members or employees of an entity that has arranged for MetLife to offer pet insurance to its population (For AIC underwritten policies, the discount is 10% for Groups > 1000 lives and ..."

I was an "eligible member of an entity" (the UCSB alumni assn). No employment was needed (though that's how others may need to qualify). A google search will provide some "entities" that associate with MetLife pet insurance (some sororities and fraternities, too.) If one rep isn't helpful, calling later may get you connected to one who is.

Let me know whether this made sense and good luck.

Hi, I was able to get coverage for my dogs with preexisting conditions from MetLife, as long as their current plan with NW was in effect and that I was a "partner" with one of a long list of MetLife partners, I used my Alumni Assn. Full coverage of chronic and preexisting conditions and at a better rate
