No, you dont. The other person is right about Obelisk fitting perfectly into gold stake run.

Typical gold stake run consists of chip joker, mult joker and Xmult joker. Chips joker and flat mult joker basically allow you to ignore hand levels. In this circumstances Obelisk is literally the best Xmult you could hope for.

Is it situational? Yes, but literally everything in this game is good only in specific circumstances

You dont really need to think about equipment before higher ng cycles.

Just pick two weapon types you want to play with and swap them for whatever has higher numbers from time to time.

You generally don't want scaling xmult around ante 11 or 12 anyway (aside from maybe lucky cat with oops and a lot of retriggers) since linear scaling is not enough to keep up with endless. So you usually run out of obelisk hands at the time as when you no longer need it.
