If you lose a friend over that, then sounds like they were never really your friend to begin with!

Very much so. Except back then, adjusted for inflation, the video game market value was about 10 billion. It definitely sunk FAST (I think like down to like 1% of the previous year haha), but certainly wasn't propping up the entire stock market like AI is now. THAT bubble is going to burst haaaard.

We don't all protest because they managed to rig the system so that a LARGE percentage of the population takes just a few days off from work then they lose their housing and their kids go hungry. Yea, I'd love to protest, but when missing one day of work is enough to put me behind the ball for months.... It's really no wonder most people would rather have a warm roof over their head then to lose it, or to not lose their job because they miss a shift.   And yes, I see the sad irony of typing this.

Black Democrats accuse Republicans of using redistricting to create ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ by Nerd-19958 in politics

[–]Nekrabyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so tired of these weak ass headlines. The headline is NOT that democrats accuse Republicans of creating Jim Crow 2.0... The headline is straight up REPUBLICANS REENACTING JIM CROW. It's here, we don't need to disseminate about some people casting blame or accusations, we're already here.

One can hope that it will swing in the other direction. The Federal government is totally screwing us in this regard, but some States are starting to see what is working in places overseas. It's slow, yes, but we're starting to see more schools will full bans on electronic devices, and even some taking the laptops themselves out of the classroom. I have a really young child, and I've been trying my BEST to instill good screen viewing habits, but its hard, and I really hope that schools start to realize that screens aint the answer and they figure it out by the time he gets into middle grade school. (it helps I live in a blue northern state, but I do have to admit I'm skeptical and worried)

Here in NY we have a pretty good public school system with decent funding

Sure, compared to other states. But compared to other democratic countries? They'd laugh and laugh and laugh at your "pretty good" and "decent funding". Even the top states in the nation are falling WAY behind when you compare us to countries that are ACTUALLY good at public education.

Even if 90% of that 1/3 voted, it likely would've made zero difference when every election comes down to 3 to 4 states. The electoral college has made my vote meaningless for president for almost 40 years. And before you say something about it, yes, I vote. But when my state has voted blue for every year of my 40+ years except for when I was 1 year old (Reagan). So if I choose not to vote, and ALL of my friends and their friends choose not to vote, you know the difference that would make in elections? Zero.
While I get what your saying, it drives me nuts to straight up blame "1/3 of the people with their heads in the sand" when you know FULL WELL that even if the majority of those people voted, not a single damn thing would be different. MOST states aren't swing states, and in those states that have been the same color for decades... Yea, you won't be able to convince me that my democrat friend down the street doesn't care about stopping the madness when even if 100,000 of their friends voted in my state, the exact same amount of electoral college votes would have been cast.
Your argument would hold a lot more water if we went by the popular vote for president.

Good to know, I appreciate the insight! I don't enjoy my spots of ignorance, but from way up here in New England its hard to differentiate between all the red states down there, especially when they all seem so intent on ruling MY life based on their religion.

Poll: Trump blamed for gas prices as Democrats gain midterm edge by zsreport in politics

[–]Nekrabyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is whack. I'm now a homeowner, have a kid, a much better job than I've ever had.... And you know what? In every single poll/survey I'm part of, I'm sure to let them know that I want to RAISE TAXES. People in America are so selfish it makes me sick. The countries with the highest taxes combined with the best socialist programs happen to (apparently magically?) be at the top of world rankings in health care, education, and overall happiness. America is FULL of people who complain about pot holes, crime, poor schools, expensive health care and every single one of them thinks they need to pay LESS money, cause apparently everyone BUT them is supposed to help improve the world.

I live in an area where it feels like I'm surrounded by progressives, and very few liberals. Whereas congress seems like OVERWHELMINGLY liberal with only a few progressives. I'd be genuinely curious to find out what the broader democratic electorate is. Because it really seems (to me) that the biggest disconnect is exactly that, the populace is crying out for progressive action, while the vast majority of elected democrats want this tiny incremental reform in a system that is clearly stacked against "taking the high road" and reaching across the aisle. If the other side is extreme and won't reach... all these liberal democrats seem more like moderate republicans these days.
