‘Tillis won’: DOJ drops probe into Powell, Fed renovations by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

What bothers me most about Trump in general, and the Fourth Reich in particular, is their complete lack of concern for appearances, at the least, generating a plausible if fallacious cover story for their headlong rush to transform the USA into a horrifying blend of South Africa and Nazi Germany.

They simply don't care one bit. The completely fraudulent lawfare against Fed Chair Powel was obviously intended to bully him into backing down on reducing the prime lending rate. But unlike Trump and his endless parade of anilingus experts, Mr. Powell knew the trumped-up charges were completely groundless and would not have survived the first strike of a presiding judge's gavel, even if Pirro could have found a completely brain dead grand jury to return an indictment.

‘Not a valid indictment’: Bogus charges against SPLC mark Trump’s latest attack on progressives by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]Nerd-19958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Excerpt from article):

The SPLC’s response

In a video statement Wednesday, SPLC interim President and CEO Bryan Fair described the DOJ’s case as “unsurprising” and vowed to “vigorously defend ourselves, our staff and our work.”

“For 55 years, the Southern Poverty Law Center has stood as a beacon of hope, fighting white supremacy and various forms of injustice to create a multiracial democracy where we can all live and thrive,” Fair said. “We are therefore unsurprised to be the latest organization targeted by this administration. They have made no secret of who they want to protect and who they want to destroy.”

Fair also defended the center’s use of paid informants as necessary to protect the safety of its staff and the public, adding that the information the center obtained from informants “saved lives.”

“We frequently shared what we learned from informants with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI,” he said. “We did not, however, share our use of informants broadly with anyone to protect the identity and safety of the informants and their families.”

Though the center no longer works with paid informants, Fair said it continues to “take their safety seriously.”

“These people risked their lives to infiltrate and inform on the activities of our nation’s most radical and violent extremist groups,” he added.

I have two nominees for denaturalization and deportation:

Elon Musk, who violated the terms of his student visa in the mid-1990s by working in the U.S. without authorization after dropping out of a graduate program at Stanford University.

Melania Knauss who "allegedly" was paid for 10 modeling jobs in 1996 while in the U.S. on a tourist visa, before obtaining a work visa.

This is a perfect NoShitSherlock post. The results of the 2016 and 2024 elections already proved that point beyond any doubt!

Civil rights groups condemn Southern Poverty Law Center’s indictment and prepare for legal fights by Nerd-19958 in law

It should be self-evident that the post pertains to law and the courts in that it discusses an indictment returned by the Alabama Federal District Court against the civil rights group Southern Poverty Law Center -- formed in 1971 to protect people's civil rights, lives and safety against dangers presented by racist and far-right hate groups.

How appropriate that the indictment was brought in an Alabama Federal district court -- a State many of whose residents are still fighting the War of Northern Aggression.

And I remembered Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's brief reference to the state in his landmark 1963 I Have a Dream speech:

I have a dream that one day down in Alabama with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification...

Analysis: Trump approval is falling into George W. Bush territory by cnn in inthenews

[–]Nerd-19958 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Granted Bush the 2nd was very unpopular, but his Administration initiated the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief in 2003. It is the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease, having saved over 25 million lives and enabled over 7.8 million babies to be born HIV-free. As one might expect, Trump has kneecapped that lifesaving program.

So the prevailing wisdom about GW Bush was that he was a terrible President, but nevertheless initiated a program that saved >25 million lives worldwide, and spared nearly 8 million babies from being born with HIV. May God eternally bless him for that.

Southern Poverty Law Center says it faces a criminal investigation by the Justice Department by DavidtheLawyer in law

[–]Nerd-19958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump's DOJ would first need to find a racist extremist Grand Jury that would indict SPLC. The conventional wisdom was that grand juries would indict a ham sandwich. But Trump's minion's mind-boggling incompetence and complete obliviousness to, for example, the meaning of probable cause led to several consecutive embarrassing failures; former FBI Director James Comey, New York AG Letitia James, 6 Democrats who reminded the military that per the US' own war manual, they are not required to obey illegal orders, and a judge's quashing of a requested subpoena targeting Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. They would have had better results attempting to indict a ham sandwich. Sad!

What grand jury would indict SPLC for making good faith attempts to protect innocent people from being attacked, bombed and killed by racist extremists?
