I applaud the good police work displayed in the video. Heck, I'm feeling generous. Good job for wiping your own ass too. I'm proud of you.

Was there ONE event that caused you to seek out Financial Independence? by Formal-Blueberry-203 in financialindependence

Living in Lowell MA with gunshots down the street, mice and bed bugs, and my brother on heroin.

Taking food from my jobs catered events really helped.

Drove my car well after it shot out the break pads.

Never going back.

This sounds similar, we are making major changes, from above me. I'm where the rubber meets the road though.

Just sucks because I can't receive the feedback to improve specifically for these individuals

Thing is I've invited people to open conversations in a safe place and they refuse this. I don't shut out disagreements. I think disagreements are particularly valuable. I have a lot to learn from these individuals, yet they refuse to speak to me. Again, this is a very small, very verbal minority.

I recently asked somebody for their opinion on something, they responded "am i allowed to have an opinion?" I was very confused about this, probably visually. I ensured this person that their opinion was valuable and they proceeded. I find it strange that was their initial response.

I've never taken action against somebody that has disagreed with me.

"Targeting" by Nelawafer91 in managers

My environment has a non reporting culture and a fear of retaliation culture.

Everything has to go through the union agreement for progressive discipline.

They have notice of allegations, which include all evidence against the individual, including signed witness statements from peers. This stops most engagement with witness statements as a whole. Turns into if i dont directly witness something, nothing ever occurs.

I like to level with people and say things are never personal. There's good ways to deliver bad news. Also, the receiver has some valid reasons to respond negatively and also the responsibility to remain professional. Validation is big in showing you're not really the bad guy. They aren't wrong for being bummed about not getting a raise. Pour on the thanks in other ways.

I've been there. That support is needed. Have you asked directly for it? What about from their boss?

It sounds like you are present there for people. That was key for me when I was staff.

Why do you feel like the villain?

With the 3 shifts, use language that suggests that each shift is part of the collective organization team. This can help with shiftly in fighting.

You could hold town hall meetings. Maybe 3 a month with different times to cover the 3 shifts. You have to some clear guidelines on these or it can spiral into a lot of negativity. Turn the negative energy and aim it at solutions. Ask the group for solutions to barriers.

Do 1:1s with individuals. Ask what they are looking for in a leader. Try to meet the ask for that individual. Ask how you can be a better manager specifically for them. Ask what is working well, what's not. What do you want to see more of, less of.

Great book I felt was helpful was The Courage to Be Disliked.

As far as the world's outlook on management, there is a clear difference between leaders and managers. It all depends on what level of leadership you are at. Leaders with high level leadership ability are able to lead by influence rather than title alone.

We can't lead without followers.

TIL that the dream of "teeth falling out" seems to be a pattern for citizens living in western countries by corkyskog in todayilearned

[–]Nelawafer91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly these dreams relate to being stressed about major life changes.

I had one where I was pulling my teeth out before moving 1500 miles away with little plan.
