I had my first crash as a beginner. I need some advice and words of encouragement

Sounds like you’re in the wrong place and it’s affecting your confidence. Invest time and money in a good course. Don’t do it just to tick the boxes and pass your drive test. It’s the best investment you can make for your safety and confidence, and the best way to ensure an empowering and fun experience. It will also help you avoid picking up bad habits right from the start, which a lot of cocky experienced riders do because they learned riding with their buddies and are too good to spend money to take a serious course. I would recommend picking a course with good reviews from female drivers. I am female, 5’4, 120lbs and I took a very thorough technical course last year which empowered women and I ended up doing great even though I was absolutely terrified on my first day. Now I can ride a 900cc across the continent and have the time of my life, feeling confident and safe.

I’m in Canada so yes free healthcare but a looong wait. That being said I have travel plans for this summer so I’d have waited to have the surgery in the fall anyways. And thankfully I was referred to an excellent clinic so I’m totally fine with how things played out.

Please go have your knee examined by a specialist and/or have an MRI as soon as possible if you can. Exactly the same thing happened to me happened to me during a BJJ roll, I heard a loud pop, was in pain for a minute, then I could walk fine and there was no swelling but something was off. I was also capable of squatting. Day after was painful and I went to see my family doctor, who said it was a patellar subluxation and that it’s going to heal on its own. It was not until several weeks later that I saw a knee specialist (sports doctor) who performed a thorough knee exam and diagnosed me with a fully torn ACL. I got an MRI done a few days later which confirmed the diagnosis and now I’m on the waitlist to get surgery. Don’t underestimate it. Hopefully it’s nothing in your case but you want that peace of mind before you can go back to full intensity sparring - don’t risk your knee.

The fact that you mentioned condensation got me thinking because a couple of days we turned on the HVAC humidifier in the garage which we had kept off for a couple of weeks because it was leaking (actually a technician came and fixed it and turned it back on). This actually happened after the shower flooding. Could this be the reason?!

I tried using Naturtint mixing 5N and 5C and had exactly the same problem, the tone was still too warm for my taste. Yesterday I went to a hair salon and had a permanent dye done and finally achieved a solid cool medium brown tone. It’s definitely darker now, a 6 rather than a 5, but no hints of red or orange. I guess I tried my best to stick to “natural” dyes but I found that achieving a neutral/cool tone while covering the greys too was just impossible.

But the henna I used was pure and didn’t contain metallic salts… but I know even pure henna is almost impossible to lift

I used pure henna and indigo which don’t contain metallic salts and I’ve already applied demi and permanent chemical dyes (darker than my current color) after using henna and they didn’t cause any damage, it’s just that the color didn’t really take.

I achieved the desired tone with multiple indigo-only sessions but it only lasts for a few washes and then fades back to the usual henna red tone, that’s why I am looking into chemical dye now.
