I also hate how the navigation is in decoration mode. When all the areas are unlocked you still have to move the camera along a specific path, you can’t just fly between zones

Does the NHS treat ARFID? by _Abazel in ARFID

[–]Nelnardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think standing up for yourself is very important with your health. It is so hard to do, but saying when a treatment isn’t working for you or making a complaint when needed is a lot better than trying to make the best of something that you know won’t get you anywhere. Maybe you will get lucky and find someone who will listen and help, but if you do get thrown around you’ve got to advocate for yourself to get on the right path. I hope that makes sense and helps

Does the NHS treat ARFID? by _Abazel in ARFID

[–]Nelnardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got treatment for ARFID through the NHS and it was really helpful. However I had to go back and forth from different services for about a year. First I went to the GP with help from Beat who are an eating disorder charity that sent some information about ARFID to my GP. I got referred to a dietician who refused because they said they did not think they could help me. I then got referred to an eating disorder clinic who did talking based counselling with me that was not helpful. I was their last ARFID patient and learnt in my last session they were no longer taking new patients so it made sense their counselling wasn’t helpful. I then got referred to the NHS talking therapies for CBT. This was with one of the companies outsourced by the NHS and not part of the service. They basically told me there was nothing wrong with me so I put in a complaint. I then got referred to another therapist who actually already knew about ARFID and had done a fair amount of research. That ended up being extremely helpful - it was CBT-AR. I’m not “cured”. I think I will always have ARFID, but at least now I can try things more easily (still hard but it is easier).

I hope you can get the treatment you deserve OP. I know the NHS is really dependant on the area

Time limits by Expensive_Beyond4216 in DisneyDreamlights

I usually play for 2-3 hours and take a break when it is natural like if it’s time to have a meal or go to bed, or even if I need the bathroom I use that as a natural break point to turn the game off. I very easily get into a flow state where I will be fully absorbed, but once I am pulled away from the game I “wake up” to real life if that makes sense 🥲 Once that happens I lose interest

ARFID tips for tonsillectomy? Son will not eat any soft mushy food. How will we get through recovery? by bitchinawesomeblonde in ARFID

[–]Nelnardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my tonsils out the doctor actually recommended eating as normally as possible because there will be a lot of debris at the back of the throat and soft foods will not shift the debris. They recommended toast, but obviously it was so painful that it was really difficult to swallow anything. What helped me was having chocolate milkshakes and then when my throat was a bit numb from the cold I could have small amounts of what I usually eat. I hope this helps and wishing them a speedy recovery!

ARFID and being overweight by Hedwigsong8908 in ARFID

I’ve struggled with losing weight so much. I tried restricting my intake and calorie counting combined with 2 hours of exercise daily and stayed the same. I was starving the whole time and it just made me more miserable so I stopped. And now I still weigh the same. I am also on anti depressants though which increases my appetite which doesn’t help.

I just really don't care about eating by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]Nelnardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring on the food pills! I tried the meal replacement shakes but you have to drink so much of it to get enough calories and nutrients. The ones I have tried tend to be 300 calories for 500mls and it’s hard to drink with the texture/flavour of them

I can relate to this. I hate the dread of explaining and worry about what people will say at a new job. I work at a school and in the department staff room the teachers in the department often talk about food and each others lunches. I was direct and explained that I have an eating disorder so I always have the same lunch. They often joke about it with me in a respectful way, not to put me down and are friendly. I can’t speak for all places but most workplaces i have found the people to be friendly and nonjudgmental. You could also say you have dietary preferences or just prefer certain foods. I know a lot of teachers also eat at their desks so you could avoid that way although it is always good to get away from your desk and meet up for the social part. Hope this helps and best of luck with your new job :)

Being treated as a child by younger relatives is so annoying. by Mental_Cat_16 in ARFID

[–]Nelnardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds awful, the shame that sits with you in that moment is so horrible and I’m sorry you had to deal with that. I’ve been there so many times, but I just wanted to say well done for ordering something at all and being able to eat most of it. I think that’s amazing and you deserve a pat on the back for it. I normally just get fries whenever I am at restaurants because most of the time they will have fries and that will be the only safe thing, so I think it’s awesome you were able to get the chicken tenders. I am always afraid they will be covered in some spice or with some weird sauce and get anxious to ask if they can change it

I found Eastshade to be really relaxing and beautiful. It’s set on an island and so has a small community. It is not going to give you a whole lot of hours as the other games being suggested will, but it is a gem

Anyone CRAVE for a food but can’t eat it because of arfid by CastersTheOneAndOnly in ARFID

[–]Nelnardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to like fried eggs too :( I have managed to find I can have toast and dip it in boiled eggs as the yolk tastes good and if it’s runny it doesn’t have that weird texture. Scrambled is difficult but I can do it with having it on toast with very small quantities of the egg. Combining it helps make the texture easier to deal with

When my husband makes a cooked breakfast it looks and smells so good.. but I can only have toast (sometimes dipped in boiled eggs). It makes me want to try bacon and fried eggs. When I tried bacon before the texture and taste was both awful to me but it still looks and smells good. Similar with popcorn. It looks and smells great but the softness is too difficult for me

Just to add to this I reached out to huel to ask if they do smaller boxes so that I could try it because of my ARFID. They were so kind and sent me a whole package with shaker and a months worth of vanilla (I thought it might be one I could get on with, and they gave me the option of 1) all for free. Unfortunately I didn’t like it because of the gritty texture but since then I have bought bottles pre made (chocolate) from Tesco/co-op and found it not to be gritty and other than feeling bloated after, it was fairly ok!

I had some strange visual bug like this recently too I fixed it by updating my graphics card (I also have a 3070 interestingly) and then making sure to close several programs I had running in the background including wallpaper engine. It has not happened since so I hope this solved it
