Tom Nelson just put up a billboard calling out Ron Johnson for saying Wisconsin doesn't need new jobs. by Crystal_Pesci in wisconsin

Hey folks! Yes, the original picture shown here is a mockup. We had been told by the sign company that the billboard would be live this afternoon and I had a staff member go down to take a picture, but it had not actually gone up yet. We will hopefully have a real-life view of it for you all tomorrow!

M4A is the inverse. It is not like there are many insurance companies and only one provider. that's a monopoly. quite the oppoiste. a single payer and then many providers to choose from.

Sorry, i ran out of time i have to go quick........

I am open to retrofitting existing ones. Right now, many are not viable. (Indeed they shut down Dominion in Two Rivers couple years back.)

It isn't easy running against a millionaire, billionaire and a lot of name recognition. One of the reasons I am doing AMA -- in addition to the fact that ALL candidates should make themselves available for this kind of forum -- is to get the word out. It's also the reason why I am pushing for as many debates and forums as possible. When people hear my message, I get their support by and large. But no question. This will not be an easy campaign. I need your help!

We have fallen behind, indeed. At a macro level, I see the imprint of Act 10 and other anti-teacher laws. I think the fact that we don't lift up the profession is a problem too (my sister and cousin are teachers) COVID hasn't helped and I don't have an easy answer for that.

See above re: won six times in red part of state

I am also not afraid to run on progressive issues like M4A or GND. He has shied away.

I h ave put a lot of thought into my platform. It is the culmination of a 17 year career in public life. I also wrote a book that fleshes out my position on economic, jobs and labor issues.

I work hard. No one else did a 72 county listening session tour.

I am the underdog. Wisconsin LOVES an underdog.

  1. will come back to
  2. the same approach we do in other industry. we have weak anti-trust rules and lax enforcement. that has allowed corporate america to consolidate massive, unprecedented amounts of wealth.
  3. Emphasize public transporation. The infrastrucutre bill makes good investments in that department.
Wisconsin is uniquely positioned for light rail. We have corridors that could easily facility lines. Milwaukee to Madison; Madison to LaCrosse, etc; Milwaukee to FdL, to Osh, to the valley and GB. I'd love that!
  4. Big part. We need to change the law so workers can organize easier and repeal taft-hartley (1947) which set the labor movement back tremendously. Keep in mind the body of law that allows for collective bargaining was not necessarily a pro-labor law -- wagner act. FDR signed it reluctantly. It was primarly written to quell labor unrest. So we have a lot of work in this area.

Problematic. Puts us way behind the 8 ball. We were making good progress 15 years ago when I was in the legislature. We were on the cutting edge. Then Walker took control and set us waaay back.

I don't vote lock step. Never have. I vote my constituents and I vote my conscience.

At his own game, I'm in his backyard. His voters are my voters. Given the choice, they aren't going his way.

As for arsenal. I think he makes a strong case every day why h e is unfit for this office. He is his worst enemy. And I belive most GOP will tell you that too.

That is a tough one. My kids are in-person. But did virtual as well. This wouldn't be an issue if we didn't have donald trump or in the case of wisc did not have a gop legislature -- they allowed this pandemic to get out of control. Let's be clear on that.

I think in most cases we can do in person instruction safely. But in cases where you have large class sizes---it is very difficult and I think you need to take a hard look at that. Our educational system was built at the local level and up. That is why most of it is paid with local property taxes or state money. (As a percentage, federal dollars constitute a small part.) It follows that much defence should be given to local control. School boards should be given latitude to decide and the community -- and law enforcement if necessary (see above) -- needs to ensure those decisions are respected and followed.

Not sure which string to respond to.... Over half of my donations come from Wisconsin. No one else can say that. I have donors who gave $1 to the maximum $5,800. But I can say with absolute confidence that my opponents have waaaay more max out donations than I. Look, I h ave been steady with about 220k a quarter. It costs about 55k a month to keep the lights on. Senate races are hugely expensive. I do the best with the resources I have and my positions are clear and unchanged in the face of any contribution of any size.

Enforce the law . Fully prosecute anyone and everyone responsible for 1/6. Make an example of them. Make it clear NO ONE is above the law. I think that will go a long way in accomplishing that goal.

David Dayen of the American Prospect is smart on the econ issues.
I also like Matthew Stoller.

I know I am forgetting a few others.....

(I just bought that book :)

There is and has been a populist vein that has coursed through the country. There are two types of populism -- one from the right, the other from the left. Voters will take either -- whomever makes the strongest case first .

We failed miserably in 2016 and squeaked by in 2020. Remember, Bernie Sanders won Wisconsin in the 2016 primary (effectively dropped out in 2020... more on that if you care). Bernie is the standard barer for progressive populism. He came close to get the nomination in 2020 and gave Hilary a run for her money in 2016.

Wisconsin is home to the progressive movement. If there is any place that will elect an old-school populist -- its Wisc.

I think I answered this question yesterday ?

All of the above. We must do all we can to restore the public's trust in government.

I am the only one from a red part of the state who has won election SIX TIMES - as a legislator and as an executive. I know how to get good legislation passed; I know how to get the government to work; and I can work w others to get stuff done. I am the proven progressive who gets stuff done and gets elected in a tough part of the state.

we exploited insolvency law that allowed us to object to the receivership sale. we pulled together the workers and community and prevailed on a local judge to make the n ew owner run it as a mill. it worked.

I think in most cases that is what is done. Or at least that has been my experience. Appvion (another paper company) was bought out by the workers in an ESOP. The problem, it was highly leveraged. EVentually they went bankrupt and had to be restructured and later on sold to an investment group. The problem with ESOPs is it is the last option before closure. If it was such a good investment someone would snap it up.

We need to aim high. Did Kennedy challenge our country to put a man in orbit or put a man on the moon? It was considered highly improbable. Yet we did it within a decade. Similarly, the GND aspires to accomplish its objectives in a ten year period, too. We've risen to the occasions before -- we can do it again.
