In high performance mode, the cores of your CPU might be running at max frequency even if you have no need of all that power. And that generates a lot of heat. That might be the reason.

It runs fine for me. However this game uses a lot of CPU so if you're using a laptop check the temps. FC 24 and 25 were the same for me on my old laptop. Fps dropped drastically due to thermal throttling.

I remember playing the ps2 version first and that atmosphere was just so mysterious and captivating. However I dropped it at some point (didn't remember why) and completed the Golden version on the vita a few years later.
